The message was from SANDAG (San Diego Association of Governments) asking people to call another 800 number to participate in a tele town hall meeting.

Sorry, that DOESN'T WORK for political or religious calls.

Actually, I'd say that the DNC list works to the extent that it's possible to work.

It has eliminated a lot of telemarketing calls from what one could at least charitably call "reputable" organizations.  Remember when you used to get calls from various and sundry phone companies trying to get you to sign up for their long distance plan?  Most of those calls are a thing of the past, at least in my experience.

What's left are the crooks and sleazeballs who operate on, again to be charitable, the fringe of the law.

Sadly, no law is going to stop them from calling you because they have no respect for the law, whether it's the DNC or anything else.

Just like we have speed laws and some people speed or we have laws against robbing liquor stores but some people still rob liquor stores, the DNC stops reputable telemarketing (and, yes, we can debate "reputable" all day) from calling us but the crooks and the scofflaws, not so much.

My advice, which is worth every penny you pay for it, is to get an answering system if you don't already have one and just let it go to the machine.  If it's a legitimate call, they'll leave a message.  If it's a scammer, about 99 times out of a hundred they'll just drop the call and move on to the next number in the list.

Yes, it's mildly annoying to have the phone ring when it's just junk but that there's life here in the glorious future.

There's no point in getting worked up over it. Seriously. It's just not that important.

Third call from these scum.... I never answer and they leave no message.  I dial back and they say "political outreach organization".  Called on the 24th, 27th and 28.....

Political calls are exempt from the DNC registry.

I agree FCC is useless in handling complaints. They may be overloaded, but maybe the phone companies should stop issuing or revoke the phone numbers of the scammers, robot callers, and nuisance callers in general.

CID: TOLL FREE CALL. First called my landline on 4/6/16; voicemail consisted of a female voice saying "Hello?" and then silence. After checking here, I blocked the number. Whoever they are, they are very persistent as they've made 4 calls since the block (4/6, 4/8 and twice on 4/9). I wonder how many times they have to be hung up on by my block before they stop.

called and asked to speak to me using my entire name. didn't say where he was calling from...NOTE he called me in the wrong line...anyone who knows me knows the number that was called wasn't MY DIRECT PHONE #

James from BGE Home wanting to do a survey, but only with a male. Very poorly spoken, very sketchy.

Political Opinion people. Called first only to hang up when I answered. They called back a few minutes later same caller ID number. A lady that wasn't very informed on what she was asking wanted my opinion on a topic she was unclear in stating. I then asked for details as to what she was asking. She had to keep pulling the phone away to ask someone else in the call center for answers. She then got a little rude forgetting they were interrupting my life. Though they wanted my opinion without being clear I remained calm and polite. She on the other hand after several times of having to divert her attention away from the phone just hung up on me. I understand because they aren't a soliciting call they get to bypass the failed DNC but there should also be regulations against rude political opinion callers like this as well as automated calls that you can never reach a live person. If you can't be polite and/or can't be bothered to have a live person talk to me then if/when I figure out what you are trying to push I will downgrade my support for what you are pushing.

We're on the DN Call list!  It didn't matter.  What  a joke!  We got a call at 10:25 PM last night!  Ludicrous!

When they called me at 10:25 last night, I was livid.  I asked what he was calling about and he said it was for our local utility putting in new utility lines (I'll sell a bridge to anyone who believes that).  Then I told him what time it was and the [***] said "actually, it's closer to 10:30!" ...Son of a you know what.  I demanded to know who HE worked for and suddenly I heard "click" ... I was so pissed off

Called at 10pm tonight! Just like Nancy's entry before me, I jumped up thinking something bad happened to someone close to my family.
I rarely pick up the phone when I don't know the caller, and the ID just said the number and nothing more. But I grabbed the phone ready to let the expletives fly and CLICK they hung up on me. It's gotten so bad that i'm thinking of dumping this house phone #, sadly the less means of communication seems to be for the better.

This and another number 844-814-5432 like calling people after 9 pm for political surveys.

Frankly I don't care if they call because I rarely hear the phone and check calls after the fact.  Don't have voice mail. If in directory will call back.
