I call 888 258 3741 and an Indian woman told she doesn't know 800 824 9289

Some comments say it is legit number, some don't, I confuse and believe it's definitely a scam.

Man said my social security number had been suspended due to suspicious activity. Wanted ME to give HIM my info!

Got a call from 800-824-9289 stating that they were calling from AMEX regarding a charge and that I could call 800-382-0613 or the number on the back of my card regarding the charge. I called AMEX directly and the customer rep said that AMEX had NOT attempted to reach out to me regarding anything. It was a good reminder to always call the company directly.

Logged onto website which confirmed suspicious transaction.  Transaction blocked, card cancelled and new card issued.  I then called American Express fraud department who confirmed this is one of their numbers.
Legitimate.

A robocall from UN-known  - automated American Express phishing scam - A search shows this number to be a toll free number. They keep calling using a different new number after being told to remove my number from their call list and blocked.

Got a call from ‭(800) 824-1285, HiYa app lists the number as Amex, I do not have an American Express card, definitely a scam

I got a text message, not a phone call. It alerted me to the name of the merchant where my AmEx was attempted to be used, along with a link to call this 800 number. No way I was clicking on the link! I took out my AmEx card called the number on the back, asking to speak to the fraud dept. Whatever the text 'said' was apparently the truth. The name of the merchant where scammers had tried to use my card was exactly as written in the text.
We are programmed NOT to click on links, and  never will, but this appeared 100% legit.

Got a text from 629639 telling me Amex Fraud Free Msg: Charge activity was recently confirmed as not fraud. If you believe this was in error please contact us. STOP to opt out. 8008249289. This may be an AMEX number but I bet it was spoofed. These are fraudsters calling from out of USA. I don't have an AMEX card.

These bottom feeders are spoofing the Amex telephone number!!! A few of you stated it was legit....but IT IS NOT.
You “think” it’s Amex when they call, .but because these people spoof so many numbers....They are getting away with taking your money!! BLOCK THEM‼️

Received an automated text on this number.  Called the number but disconnected when reached an agent and asked for information.  Called the number on the back of my AmEx and when noted potential fraud was sent to the same team and spoke to someone who had notes of the previous call.  Great that they caught the fraud, number was valid, but the process doesn't make a person feel secure that the call itself isn't part of fraud.

Amex Fraud Free: Did you just try to charge 12.00 USD on Card #24025 at GOOGLE SERVICES? 1 if yes, or 2 to call Amex. STOP to opt out. 8008249289....I don't have any credit cards, so why would Amex have any contact info for me?

This is a legitimate American Express Fraud alert number.  I called it and someone attempted to charge my card.

Garbled voice asking for a person that isn't at this number and a gift card ending 4705. Wanted to press numbers on key pad for yes (1) or no (2) or say yes or no. Pressed 2 no action said no. Asked another question and gave same instructions. Pressed 2 no action said no. Hung up. Blocked number. 800-824-9289. This isn't AMEX - a scam.

Since when does AMEX send a text to telephone when there is suspected fraud. Surely thought it was SCAM.  Terrible idea for you to do that!  There is a better way I am suare! I didn't call the number..I called your fraud line and am waiting so far  10 minutes.

You're replying to a post from 12 years ago by a person who doesn't work for AmEx so couldn't answer your question anyway.

It was a legitimate alert text from AMEX - there were two charges on my AMEX card from gas stations. I do not use my card for gasoline purchases. I called the number and they worked with me to set up a fraud case to eliminate the charges and send me a new card.

Same thing happened to me I called the number on the back of my card, was transferred over to fraud division the phone number is one of their numbers it’s legit..!
