- muteGet a call from this number and no voice at all.
- Uh OhI got a call from Amex security regarding possible fraud. The woman I spoke with provided me with the number listed above. I saw this warning when I googled the number because Im a little over the top nervous when it comes to fraud or scams. So I hung up, called the number on the back of my Amex card and 8008249289 is actually a legitimate number for American Express Security/Fraud Detection. Always best to be certain though, especially when so many people are looking to take what isn't theres.

- confid replies to sparksterReceived call from this number, along with an email. I called and cancelled the card, someone was using at gas stations. Later I became concerned that I got Phished so I called the # on back of card. Everything was legitimate.
- MaryI just got off the phone with Amex after receeving a phone call from number 1 800 824 9289. I called the customer service number on the back of my card and gave the representative the above number and asked if it was legitimate. She said it was a legitimate #.The only thing she asked me was for the last four digits of my social and under that she was able to pull up all my account information. She said I had
what she thought was an unauthorized charge on my account. I didn't. I knew what it was and I told her. She went on to say that if I had any other questions just call them back and I can use the above number or the number on the back of my card. She said have a good day and hung up. She was very nice about everything.- Caller: American Express

- joThis number is NOT a scam call. After calling my CC company, I found out that somebody made two charges to my account, when the 3rd attempt was made within days apart, my CC account denied the charge due to "unusual" account activity...THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! for the CC company to make that decision!!
I had the account cancelled and I hope that nobody EVER has to go through this type of violation ever!!! - meis not a amex number do not call back
- VAgirlJust recieved a vmail at my office number to call the 800 number of Amercian Express Credit Card - the first red flag was I do not even have a card with Am. Express - then their voicemail stated if I did not want to call this number that was left to call the tel. number on the back of the card and enter the card number? Instead I called the Offical Amercian Express Card company and they informed me this was FRAUD and reported it their head office - it has been going on since 2007.

- rrichard63Here's what I don't understand. I do *not* have an American Express card, and have *never* had one. But I got one of these robocalls from 800-824-9289. It included my name and the last five digits of somebody's account number (not mine, because I don't have one). I can understand them having the wrong phone number for an account holder, but I cannot understand how they could have my name right.
- gg4rebelsIt is real.....the following came off the AE website after I logged in:

However, caller-ID can be faked. I've had this number show up on two occasions. Each time, I logged into my web account to check the status of my card. This last time when I logged in, a phone number was highlighted in red. I called that number which was an automated system to verify a $20 charge. The whole process only took five minutes and I didn't even have to talk to another human being.

- ashMThis number called me twice today. I called the number back and there was a recording saying it was American Express Security Group. I contacted American Express' customer service(800-528-4800) and they had no record in their files of them calling myself or my husband. Our accounts were fine.
I believe this is a scam looking to steal credit card and personal information.
I would not give them any information and tell them you will call the number on your card.- Caller: Amex
- L.J.L.I received a call from this number and was suspicious. Within a few minutes, I received an email from AmEx saying that they were trying to contact about a possible fraudulent purchase. I called a different phone number (found on AmEx web site) and spoke with a customer service rep. I was notified of 2 purchases that someone tried to make with my card (totaling almost $5,000)! The purchases were not ours, they are investigating and are reissuing me a new card with new number. So, even though I was suspicious, I did follow thru and I'm glad I did!!
- AngelaI received 2 calls from this number today. Both went to voicemail. Today is Thanksgiving Day and I found it strange they called. I called the number on the back of my card and c/s said that the fraud alert office is closed today. He gave me a direct number and told me to call them in the morning. He said if anyone from that 800-824-9289 calls again to just ignore it and call the fraud alert office in the morning with the number he gave me. He also said my acct. looks fine. So?...
- NThis is American Express. My husband used the wrong zip code when he was using the card and so they called because they thought it was fraud. They called me first and then called the other 2 numbers listed on the account. Once my husband confirmed the charge, it was all taken care of.

- NoelI got an email detailing an illegitimate charge that was made on my card saying to call this phone number. Not trusting the email as a potential phishing attempt or the American Express web site in case it was hacked, I called the Customer Service number on the back of my card. It turned out that the email and the original phone number were legitimate.
- Snoopy| 1 replyWe received a call from this number, and then called back the 800 # on the back of the card to complete the transaction. I do believe that this is a valid number, ALTHOUGH, it is possible to SPOOF a caller ID phone number. i.e. call from one number and have this number show up on caller id, so if you receive the call, you can always tell them you will call back in a moment to verify any additional info. Then, call back from the number on the back of your card and press the corresponding keys for the FRAUD DEPT.
On the original call DO NOT VERIFY YOUR CARD NUMBER, YOUR 4 DIGIT CODE, or YOUR ADDRESS if you have any doubts.- Caller: American Express Fraud
