EVERYBODY DO THE FOLLOWING, EN MASSE --

After receiving 5 calls from this SunTrust number just this morning -- on a Saturday when their offices aren't even open -- and the same every day for months now (also from their 800-828-7959 number) -- and having no affiliation with this harassing company, I'm fed up.  WE NEED TO ALL WORK TOGETHER TO STOP THIS.  They are by law bound to remove our cell and other phone numbers from their call lists upon our request but they're not doing it.  EVERYBODY NEEDS TO DO THE FOLLOWING. (1) Let the FCC complaint dept hear from all of us.  Fill out and submit the form at https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/consumer.do.  (2)  Everybody do what I just did as well.  WRITE A SCATHING LETTER TO James M. Wells IIIE
Chief Executive Officer and President, SunTrust Banks, Inc., 303 Peachtree Street, NE, Atlanta, GA  30308.  Only by all of us doing this in large numbers will this have a chance of stopping.  Our complaints on this board, while they provide a place to fume, are doing nothing to SunTrust.

First off, SunTrust is a BANK, not a collection agency.

    Visit www.SunTrust.com.

SunTrust does have a dedicated outbound department. They call existing clients to make sure they are in the right accounts and do what they can to help clients. Now if a client has changed their phone number and does not update it on their account, that is not the bank's fault. Now EVERY SunTrust call in and out is recorded. If you are "threatened" in any way all you have to do is request a supervisor and ask them to pull the call to listen to it. Be sure to ask the rep for their name and ID. All SunTrust employees have an ID and a supervisor. Now do be cooperative when calling and speaking to a rep who was not part of any initial call. They must find out the reason for requesting a supervisor and if you have an account.

If a representative calls you, they will not ask for any information to compromise your account. At most they will ask you to verify your zipcode and ONLY the last four digits of your SSN, never the entire thing. Now if you are uncomfortable doing that, they have other means to verify you by. If you do not wish to be contacted, all you have to do is call 1-800-786-8787 and ask to be put on the "Do Not Call" list, now this does not limit SunTrust's right to call you concerning collections, etc. You can also have a "Confidential Status" placed on your account. This prevents SunTrust from calling you about your account, but also makes it so no one, including the account holder to call in and get any information on the account. Basically the account does not exist over the phone.

Please keep in mind the people calling you do not like calling you. Many times the agent calling you is an inbound agent who was not hired to make outbound calls, but when call volume is low, they are forced to call clients for about two hours or more per day.

They are people just like you. Imagine if you had to call your customers at random for no apparent reason to see if you can do anything to help them.

continue to get calls from this number.  It's suntrust.  I have an account with them and I sent my payment the day before it was due.  i can't help that the mail is slow and they continue to call even if it is one day after the payment is due.   I mean there is a grace period correct.  Never have been late before and I will never be late, the payment is always there...yet if it's just one day late they will be on you like there is no tomorrow.....I will NEVER have a loan with suntrust again.  I'm considering harrasment charges---this is rediculous.....

I would suppose if a legitimate business calls me from the phone number of 800-828-7959, they would also want to display their business name on caller id instead of displaying UNKNOWN NAME. UNKNOWN NAME equals potential Scam Artist whom I simply do not pick up the phone to listen to...

This number belongs to an outside calling firm located in India - they may call for a number of businesses - Suntrust Bank being one of them - they also use other numbers like - 800-607-0386 and 804-319-1962 - they will vary the calls from each of the numbers until you finally pick up and then they state that it is just a courtesy call if you have recently made a payment at the bank for your auto loan even if you are still in the period where you would not pay additional interest and are not delinquent.

Interesting.  Last year, I set up a 'skip payment.' Filled out the paperwork to extend the payment period one month, paid the interest and everything.  I wonder if there isn't some kind of glitch in the system and they are trying to collect that month's bill???

keep getting phone calls from various 800 numbers. The last one is 800-828-7959.  Said payment not received.  I sent payment over 1 month ago.  Has not cleared my bank.  Heard that they may be slow to post your payments.  You get a courtesy call within 5 days of late payment.  At 15 days, they sick the collection agency on you.  Most colletion calls originate in India.  They ask you up front to verify who you are without even telling you who THEY are.  Refuse to connect you with a supervisor without giving your account number - all the while still not identifying themselves.  they will call 7 - 8 times a day every day!  called me at work.  I think they lost my payment.  I mailed several checks all at the same time.  Every one of them but the Suntrust  one reached their destination.  This is a very shadey operation!  I'm considering refinancing with another bank.  This company clearly doesn't know how to treat and keep their customers!

    The Facts
    Here's the facts:

If you have an account with SunTrust - likely a loan of any sort - you have NO grace period.  That is not written any where in the contract that you signed.  Don't believe me?  Go pull your contract and actually read it.  There is a late fee assessed after a certain predetermined day.  That could be the 10th, 15th or 16th day after it was due depending on your actual contract.  If a bill is due on the 12th of the month it is DUE on or BEFORE the 12th of the month.  Not the 15th or 22nd - THE 12th.  If you don't pay by the 18th, 6 days after your contract, expect a call confirming that you have made or will be making a payment shortly.  Don't ignore the call.  Be as nice as you were when you wanted the money and the bank was there for you.  Set up a payment promise with the agent (who is likely calling from either Orlando, Florida or Richmond, Virginia) or give a time frame of when you can pay.  Everyone runs behind, it's how you act during that time that will determine your future.  Cursing and asking for management will do nothing to further your cause as every SunTrust Collections employee is empowered to make decisions on your account.

Already in the world of financing detailed payment history records are being requested from single lenders on top of the regular credit reports.  If you believe you will get the best rate again, because you pay in your imaginary 'grace period' you will be sorely mistaken.  It is very important to pay ON OR BEFORE THE DUE DATE.  When you do, you never get a call.

If you don't have any business with SunTrust and you get a call, kindly ask them to remove the number.  It's very possible that the records were old especially when dealing with a car loan that is 3 years old.  With the home loans, I'd like to think you are still living in the home you put up for collateral.

Everybody runs behind sometimes.  Don't be ashamed.  Use that energy to inform the lender(s) and make an agreement that may put you back on track.

Here's a tip:  If you have a car loan or fixed interest home loan ask for a deferment for up to two payments provided that your loan is not more than 30 days late and you have not exceeded 2 deferments in the past 5 years.  A deferment DEFERS the payment to the end of the loan.  You pay a small fee for the deferment and there is some paperwork involved (they can mail it to you or fax it to your local branch).  This will allow you to move up to 2 payments to the end of your loan and help you get back on track or have a better Christmas by preserving a few dollars this year.  Once you sign the deferment don't fall behind again as that is a stipulation of the deferment and is plain common sense.  The idea behind it is to get you back on track and help you breath easier.

Crestar Bank was purchased by SunTrust some years ago (google it) and the local telephone carrier never changed their records to reflect the change.  Obviously anyone calling you should have specifics about your loan that only someone with all of your information would have.  Last few payments, what type of loan, when was it opened are a few options.

SunTrust values the relationship of the clients and wants to further that relationship.  It become hard to do when someone is cussing up a storm or ranting conspiracies.  It's easier to be a civilized human and correct the mistake of paying late in a friendly way.  There is enough negative energy out there already.

Also, legal call times are from 8am to 9pm 7 days a week based on where the client being called resides.  The only exception to this is if the person has a cell phone registered in California and no other number on record.  Answering the phone cursing on a Sunday and following it with something about the Lord's day isn't good form and it is probably a double whammy to the soul since there are things in the Bible about paying your bills and treating people with respect.

A writer above summed it up perfectly.  'Pay your bills'.  Once an agreement is made it is to everyone's benefit to live up to it.

Just got one of those calls but didn't answer. No message left.
To the one who states "PAY YOUR BILLS" : Bought vehicle. First payment over 10x the monthly payment amount. That started the collection calls. Two weeks later, after calls started, paid vehicle off. Now the calls are once every hour on average. Now I am having great fun daring them to come and get the vehicle. They keep it up with all the, quite legal, recordings and documents looks like I'll be the one collecting!
