Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - WTOn 01/27 received following e-mail but wrongly addressed, not to my real e-mail address.

- KlugeFor those who looked up this 800 number because it was mentioned in a poorly written email claiming to be sent by the IRS --> The attached .DOC word document is infected with a virus (thank you for all that secure quality programming, microsoft!)
The clowns who spammed it out are hoping that people will open the doc and infect their computer... which will allow said clowns to remotely control that computer and do whatever they want (i.e. send spam emails through it, or make it part of a botnet, or go through your files, or simply just watch you using the machine so they can see what your online banking accounts & passwords are...) - sherry winkle| 1 replyReceived a call from this number stating they are from the IRS and that I owe for past 7yrs
- Alfalfa replies to sherry winkleThese are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.
If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/22/pf/taxes/irs-tax-scams/ - SarahGot a very convincing call from this number from "IRS Agent" stating that I had committed tax fraud and owed a penalty or risk arrest. Luckily found this website - and read that IRS will not call you on phone.

- Khaja Moinuddin MohammedGot a call from the number 202-282-8000 (DC, USA) and was told i had to stay at home tomorrow for a police officer will come and hand cuff me and take me to police station. When i asked for what was the reason i was told the officer will call in a minute or two and then got a call from 800-829-4933 (Doesn't show city and state). After giving all the details about me (strange these folks have all the real information), and some USPS tracking IDs etc., was given two options.
1. Stay at home and get arrested :)
2. Pay an amount of $3260, which will hold my arrest for 3 days.

- BillReceived two calls on Feb 12, 2016 stating they were the IRS. The first was at 10:11 AM that was a recorded message and gave me an area code of 646 and office code 586. Caller number on CID was 502-413-0905. The next was at 2:12 AM from 800-829-4933. An in person call with a mid-eastern accent. Told him I knew better and I work for TSA. He said he didn't believe it and hung up while I was responding.
- Caller: IRS
- Call type: Debt collector
- BillA clarification to my previous port. The 502-413-0905 Was NOT a scam call from IRS. The 10:11 AM call did not appear on the list. Sorry about that.
- Caller: IRS
- DB in ArizonaReceived a call on my cell phone yesterday - caller had thick accent. He asked for me by name - I said "who is calling". He ignored my question and asked for me by name again - I again (in a loud voice) said "who is calling". He then claimed to be an IRS investigator. My response was - "I don't think so, don't ever call this number again". I then hung up. The phone number is a legitimate phone number for the IRS Business Division - but as others have mentioned, people can make any number/name they want appear on your called ID. I do not own a business. At work, I had the name "Oprah Winfrey" display on the called ID once! These people are low-life as*holes with apparently nothing better to do with their time than harass innocent, hard-working people.
- Caller: Claimed to be IRS Investigator
