I got a call from this number, checked with wells fargo who denied it was anything to do with them and was probably a scam.

Got a call from this on 7/9/07. This is not a scam, as Stew is trying to say it is. The first post is true. I called them back and only gave the last 4 digits of my credit card, it asked me if I was the person who was on the card and if I was calling from the same number I recieved the call from, pressed yes for both, then it asked me if it was me who had made a purchase for a specified amount at a type of store. I had made that purchase so I pressed the yes. It does not ask for personal info and it is just a fraud protection mesure that is activated when large purchases are made that are out of the ordnary. This number is NOT a scam.

I've been receiving calls from this number and another, different "companies" trying to get me to verify charges on my credit card. This IS a scam, as made apparent by the numerous posts saying "I called my credit card company, and the were not responsible for this call". Also, on the messages I've received, it would be ENTIRELY sensible, for this "service" to remind you that you can always call the number on the back of the card if you have questions; that they don't remind you of this, PROVES THIS IS A SCAM!!!

Received a call on August 13, 2007 at around 9:40 AM: an automated recorded female message stating that "We are calling to verify current credit card activities. All our agents are currently busy. Please hold and stay on the line."

    Very, very suspicious.

The call my mother received was a call about my credit card.  Claimed to be wells fargo, trying to verify charges on my account.  They then called wells fargo and asked whether this was a legitimate number.  The respondent at wells fargo called the number and said it didnt sound like wells fargo and NOT to use that number, but rather to call the number on the back of the card.  This is definitely not a wells fargo number and is likely fraud, although i'm not sure as i'm unwilling to risk giving them my personal information, it would be safer not to use this number.  The respondents on the back of the card will help you to verify charges if you believe that there is something that is wrong.

I just received a call from a live person saying they were a 3rd party company calling on behalf of Wells Fargo Security.  Their number was not showing up on my caller ID and it made me very suspicious too.

I asked them for their number and I would call them back.  I then did a Google search and found this page and after reading the posts, I decided to call the number on the back of my Wells Fargo card.  The Wells Fargo representative said that they do use 3rd party companies to verify transactions and she could see on my account that I had just been called this morning (it's currently 9:30am).  She said that if I had any doubts about who was calling me, I could always call the number on my cardthey could perform the verification.

In the future - even if I got a call from this company, I'd still call Wells Fargo to be sure.

    Hope this helps.

I got the same call saying it was Brinks about a mastercard.  Don't have a mastercard or do business with Brinks.  I hung up before entering the last four of my credit card number.

I got a call from this number, but they said they were calling from PayPal.  So I got my PayPal credit card and checked the # on the back.  This IS a scam.  I checked my PayPal account and all was okay.  But I am going to write spoof@paypal.com about this.

I just got a call from this number regarding charges on my Wells Fargo MasterCard but when I look at my account on-line there are no large or unexpected charges. When I call the number back, I stopped short of entering the last of the for digit number because it "smelled weird". So, I just waited for the system default and switch me to a live person. Of course, they were all busy, but when pout on hold, the line switched and the connection got real bad...plus the on-hold music was aweful so I hung up. I figure, if something weird shows up on my statement, I'll call Wells Fargo about it. Otherwise, I'm not handing out my credit info to a recorder.

My cell phone rang a couple of minutes ago and when I answered, I didn't hear anyone on the other line.  I got suspicious and googled the number to wind up on this page.  I was almost going to redial to see who would answer.  Haven't received a call back from that number as of yet.

This IS legitimate. I called the number to see what they were about. Made them identify the company (forgot to write it down.. First.. something.. Security i believe) and purpose of the call. The only information the 800rep requested was my phone number and my name. Then I called Wells Fargo to verify. The WFrep said yes my account was on a fraud alert for the same charges the 800rep listed. In the future, I will call Wells Fargo directly, but this was a legitimate third party verification. On the safe side, call your credit company yourself.

Called from this number about my business wells fargo visa card, checking on charges I just made that day. Seems legit to me.

The other people who got this number up on there caller id might have had another company spoof that calledid info because they are scammers. You can not always trust what information comes up on callerid.

Missed the no caller id call and returned the call to 1-800-830-8574.  They asked if i made a purchase this morning for $646 in Japan for stereo equipment.  I told them I did not make or attempt to make that transaction.  I called the number on the back of my visa check card to verify my card has been canceled through VISA and if they call was valid  (1-800-830-8574).  This call was valid. Not a scam.

It was Falco Fraud Detection.  They just asked for my phone number and name, and made sure that I was the one to actually make a $50 purchase with my Paypal Mastercard.  I said that it was me, and they politely ended the call.  Legitimate.
