- KC| 2 repliesI got a call from this phone number tonight and immediately went online and found this website. This call is NOT a scam. I recently started using my Paypal Mastercard and have made several purchases and transactions on it in the past several days. The call simply confirmed who I was, asked for the last 4 digits of the credit card, and had me confirm the last 5 transactions I had made on the card, including two transactions from today. Perfectly legitimate. Those who are saying it is a scam simply don't know what they're talking about.
THANKS PAYPAL!! :)- Caller: Paypal Security
- Michelle replies to KC| 1 replyLook, I don't know if this is a scam or not. But I got a similar call from this number and before returning their call, I called my bank (the only card I have) to see if there was an issue. They said their wasn't and I'm chosing to not call back.
I'd rather be safe than sorry. - Michelle replies to MichelleSorry, I failed to mention in my earlier post that my bank (PNCBank) indicated that they do not use such a service and suggested that I not respond.
- NateWe received a legitimate call from 800-830-8574, regarding a rather large purchase I had made today, with my credit union (America First, in UT) debit card (a VISA branded card). The call came to our home number (the only number on our credit union account). On the automated call, I provided no personal identification, other than confirming our phone number, and last 4 digits of the card I had used for the said transaction. The automated system then stated my full name, and my wife's full name (as both are on our credit union account) including our middle initials, and asked which person was currently on the phone. (BTW, only MY name is on our Caller ID, and our number is NOT published in the public phone directory.) The automated system then stated the exact amount of the transaction I had placed earlier, and asked me to confirm that I was aware of the transaction, and had authorized it. After doing so, the system thanked me, and suggested I call the number on the back of my card if I had any concerns. Not sure what everyone else experienced, but I would conclude that this was a legitmate fraud prevention effort. Hope this helps someone else. :-)

- Not a ChanceI got a call from this number this morning and a recording that asked me to hold for a representative to verify activity on my credit card or debit account. After waiting for almost two minutes, I decided to hang up - my gut feeling said something just wasn't right.
I wanted to talk to a representative to find out who they were and what they wanted, so I called the number back. After putting in a fake phone number and account number, I finally got to a representative who at first made a joke when I asked where he was calling from. When I asked again, he said the company name so fast, it was incomprehensible. I asked what the purpose of his call was and what bank he needed to verify account activity on. He was very vague and very hard to understand - not answering any of my questions completely or straight forward.
I immediately checked my accounts and there was no new or recent activity for this "company" to be "verifying". I called my bank to verify (Wells Fargo) and the representative said that Wells Fargo DOES NOT use third party verification. If they need to contact a customer due to fraud or verification, they will announce themselves as Wells Fargo and give the customer their account information, not the other way around. Wells Fargo was very happy that I didn't divulge my information and said that if this happened in the future, call Wells Fargo directly, DO NOT give my information to anyone.
So to those who gave your information to this "company", good luck - I would keep a close look on my accounts in the future. Personally, I wouldn't want to take that chance.- Caller: ... verification...
- call recipientI've recieved 2 calls from this number within a month. both times the operator wanted to verify transactions to my Bank of the West Mastercard.
They never asked for my account # or SS#, just the phone number that I rec'd the message at.
all of the transactions did belong to me.
I did become concerned after the second call & I made contact with my bank representative. She kindly explained that this is a fraud department that serves many banks & will periodically perform security checks for a) large transactions b) out of the area transactions and c) service station transactions.
I don't believe this to be fraud. - DozillaMissed their call, but they left an automated message. I called them back and went into an automated system that wanted the last 4 of my card. Of course it didn't say which card so I didn't put anything in... By pressing * or # or 0 enough times I got to a live person. He claimed they were calling on behalf of PNC Bank to verify a charge of $500 on my debit/credit card. However, I don't have a PNC Bank account! He said they would close the account and gave me the toll free number to PNC. What was even stranger was that he could not give me an account number and gave me a PO box as the address on the account. I don't understand how they could not have the account number, especially as their system wanted the last four numbers of the card to verify it. I called PNC and they could find no account under my name, phone number, or SSN and they said that only a PNC Bank employee would call on a problem with fraud prevention and they would definitely have access to account details. BEWARE what you tell these people if they call you - seems more like a phishing expedition than a legit service...
- RenoGot a message on my cell phone from 800-830-8574 re "security" on my husband's Fidelity account. I gave him the message and he immediately called the number. It was an automated recording that asked for confirmation on all his recent transactions, and then asked for card numbers and ID's, etc. Never talked to a live person.
Suspecting fraud, I called Fidelity. It was not one of their numbers. I called Wells Fargo where we also have an account. They too denied any knowledge of that number. I checked "Reverse 800 lookup". Nothing. Now I'm worried when charges on our account will begin to show up. I'll be checking several times a day. - Becca replies to Bill| 2 repliesIf it wasn't a scam then why was it from Paypal for me, but Wells Fargo for you. I think it is just the people trying to scam that are posting that this number is not a scam.
THIEVES! - Ray S replies to Dave| 32 repliesWells Fargo has clearly stated on more than one occasion that they will not contact you by phone asking for personal information.
Anyone who responds to these 800 calls is putting their accounts and persoal security at risk for fraud and theft. Period. - slcutA friend called who had lived in my house years ago with a separate phone line; she said that wells fargo security was trying to get ahold of me about some suspicous activity on my card. I called the 1-800 number and believe I gave them my full card number. They asked about 4 charges I had made the same day (Oct 10), so, some how they had access to my credit charges the same day. At the end of the call, they provided me with the Wells Fargo number on the back of my credit card and mentioned I should update my phone information with the Wells Fargo customer service. During the call to Wells Fargo Customer Service, I had the impression I was being scammed (with the real Wells Fargo). I believe I had this impression from a delayed intuition from the first call and other personal ID security fraud info I have read. The Wells Fargo customer service itself asked for all my CC# info, address, last 4 numbers of my SS# etc. At the end of the call, Wells Fargo then tried to sell me on a $1 per month (or something like that) security service that would provide me with online credit monitoring...this seemed fishy to me, so I declined. In general this seems like a marketing tool or a scam. It also seems that Wells Fargo itself is not doing its job in providing it customers (you and I) with the proper personal ID security protection. Some of the responses above say that this 1-800 nubmer was PayPal and others say Wells Fargo. Some say this is legit and others don't trust it. No one has mentioned the marketing Wells Fargo customer service was doing for the $1 security service. One thing they did was to verify the number I was calling from. Do scammers have the technology available to divert your calls if they know what phone your calling from? ... I am going to call Wells Fargo customer service today and see what info they ask me and if they have any notes from a call I supposedly made to them last night.

- MEEEI received a call from this #. At first it was an automated system asking for my last 4 digits of my card #. I didn't give the numbers, so the system transferred me to an operator who asked about recent charges on my PNC debit card. I called PNC to ask about this and gave them the # I was called from. They said that it is a company they use to detect fraudulent charges on their customers accounts. The company is called "Card Security"

- BenReceived a phone call... heard the message that I had to hold for someone to talk to me. This is indeed a company hired by wells fargo to check for fraudulent transactions. They knew my name and asked me to confirm some amounts. they didnt ask for anything else.
This is legit- Call type: Unwanted
- BAFI got a message from my mom that this # was trying to call me to confirm a purchase on my PayPal Mastercard Debit card. I called up using Skype Out, punched in the phone number they originally called me on, and the last 4 digits of my CC number. They asked me to confirm my name and the transaction from Hess when I got gas a few hours earlier. They literally called my house an hour after I got gas using the card, on a Sunday.

- bruiser49Got message from 800-830-8574 "checking credit card activity". I called my credit union, and got a "live" number (800-377-1809) rather than the automated number. I called them and asked - to find out that my half.com account triggered the call when I updated my credit card info. This is a legit number. I would also check my bank first, because numbers and companies do change.
- drewI got this from Paypal too, I called the phone number on the back of my card to ask about this number as well. The rep told me that it's a 3rd party company that PayPal hires for this type of thing. Just to be safe, call the number on your specific card anyway, because they took care of everything for me. I just wish on the PayPal webpage they would state that it's okay to call this number.

- JohnnySlotCarI called the number back, they ID'ed me via my phone number - I *did not* have to provide ANY CC# info. They knew my recent purchases and the only thing they asked was whether they were mine, which they were. I do not think this is a scam... www.good-puppy.com !

- KeSeemed legitimate. Confirmed recent purchases but didn't ask any personal details. It's your credit card company/bank looking out for you (and themselves).
I just wish they'd appear on the caller ID as more than "toll free call".- Caller: 3rd party fraud check

- TonyToday I received calls several times, most of the times it went to VM but no message left. lastly i got a voice message saying the caller is Malli from visa security to confirm the recent transactions on my visa card. I had called them back and messages seems wired, 2 times it said some different number other than mine and asked me to confirm whether this is the correct number? i waited for the live operator to answer the call and he was asking me to confirm the last transactions happend on my card, all i had given him was last 4 digits of the card. If this scam then we are already in trouble, just with the 4 digits they are able to see our accounts.!!!
Immediately called wellfargo customer service to ask more details about the call. They are saying it is legitimate call and if you don't confirm the transaction, you account will be cancelled soon.
suprising part was, even wellfargo representitive asking about the name on the card, expiration date last name etc, the information that was never asked before. all i know is once the card number is entered all they ask is for last 4 digits of the SSN.
Now am very much sceptical about these calls!! who is real who is fraud?? how to make sure that nothing wrong will happen to my account?- Caller: Visa security
