Collectors cannot tell anyone that you owe a debt.

I had recently received to messages from a man with an intimidating deep voice who identified himself as “Ted Lee of CIB”. In the message were statements such as “CIB has been hired to pursue further efforts against you for the resolution of account number 77****-7 to resolve a past due account ...”.

According to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act a collector may not tell anyone other than you (or an attorney that you hired for such an action) that owe anyone money. By leaving a message on a telephone answering machine indicating that you owe a debt is doing just that and as such is a violation of the law. *

Anyone up for a class-action law suit?

This company keeps calling for an unknown person (for over a year). When I called to ask them to stop the woman that answered was RUDE!!!!

A few weeks after I received my new phone I started getting pre-recorded calls from these people about once a week. They were looking for someone named Borely Jewels. On two occasions a real person called asking for this individual and I requested that they stop calling. For each request I was met with the same apology and that they were taking my number out of the computer "right now" but the calls keep coming.
I have never been in debt and have zero medical expenses. What bothers me the most is that this is a brand new cell number which clearly means this is clearly a SCAM!

The woman who takes the call is the biggest [***] I've spoken with in a while. The nerve of some people.....

These people having been harassing me for quite some time. I too thought it was regarding doctors bills as I was out of work and had no insurance. I refused to give them my credit card. However, I did send a check. I feel after what everybody wrote that I have been scammed. What do I do? I feel so stupid. I have been really sick. These creeps even harassed my mother who is 79. Now, they have my checking account info. I should have known as I never received bills.

hey renie don't feel bad. i also fell for it and gave them my credit card number. they try to scare you telling you that if you send a check, then by the time it gets to them, your credit will be ruined. after i hung up with these people and spoke to my mom, i started realizing that this was a scam and cancelled my credit card right after. luckily, no charge went through. who knows how much they would have really charged me! of course, they started calling me the very next day from a different number. i just don't answer anymore. collectors have to send you bills before they can call you like that. also, i called the hospital that they said i owe money to, and got the name and number of their real collections agency, and it does not match the people who called me. these people make me so angry that they take advantage of other people like this.

Received a recorded message from a Ted Lee. Referenced an account code without any reference. Mentioned that he called numerous times.

I received a call from this number. The man said his name is Ted Lee. From CIB debt collector. Wanting a rene russell and gave a acct. number. if this is the wrong number call them back and tell them. Don't think so.

Automated message was left on my answering machine requesting by husband to call 1-800-841-3520 regarding case number 8340042.  Indicated that several attempts to collect a debt have been made. (we have not been contacted by anyone,nor do we owe any money to anyone)

I also received a call from this same number 800-841-3520 and they gave me a case number and asked me to call back but they wouldn't tell me what it's in reference to so I didn't call back.

this is awful....i called back and they said it was for a bill i owed for $91...for a pathologist....i told them that i called last week and my insurance company was paying it....bill was sent to the pathologist 2 days later in full and the agent who was YELLING at me to 'pay my bills' name was Mark Ross....he was the nastiest person EVER!!! he told me i was in denial of the fact that i wont pay my bills...he told me also that it was not the insurance company's bill, it was MINE!!! i was shaking by the time i got off the phone...he was sooo nasty...what is funny, i NEVER even recieved a bill from the pathologist at any time...maybe this is a scam by the pathologist company (Carmona is the name they gave me)....i was in network and the path. was out of network.....he told me that was 'my problem, not his'....

The above situation happened to me.  I received a call from Ted Lee also (800-841-3520)  It was not a scam.  They are a collection agency.  I was in the hospital on the date they suggested.  I called my INS company and she checked into it for me.  I received a bill fromt the hospital and not the Pathology Department.  They had the wrong address down for me.  The letters were returned to them and they turned it over to their collection agency (CIB).  I agree that they are not very nice and are really pushy.  The hospital called them and let them know.  The hospital is also sending the bill to my insurance company that they knew nothing about.  You might want to do some double checking and brainstorming.  If they call you it may just be ligitimate.

Today is sunday April 5 2009. i checked my phone i saw a message came up, an automated mes.. the number is 18008413520.from ted lee,he said that i need to give them a call from that number, and gave me an (my)account from them n#8371772. so what i did,i went to google typed in the whole number 1800841...  and the first page that came up,is this site. so i started reading the comments you guys wrote,then it became clear that it was a scam. so thanks  to you guys now i know.

A degrading voice was left on my recorder by a Ted Lee saying that he was collecting a debt. I returned the call and was immediately asked for a Credit card number to settle the debt. I was told that Radiology Associates of Rockledge, FL had contacted them for payment. I called the insurance company and was told that this payment had been made to Radiology Associates in December 08.The Insurance company called Ted Lee and cleared it up. I guess this was a filing mistake on the part of Radiology Associates, but does not excuse the action of the chilling phone call we received from Ted Lee of CIB.I am filing a complaint with the Florida Attorney Gereral on both. I urge everyone who has received these calls to do the same as there is a law protecting you from this kind of harassment.

This number called my cell phone looking for a Lisa somebody...They did leave a message.  When I called them back to tell them I was not Lisa and they had a wrong number and to please take me off their list as they were calling my cell phone using my peak minutes, instead of apologizing he was blatantly rude to me and refused to accept responsibility for his mistake.  I would love to have these people in my face...They're real brave behind a phone!!!

This call got me soooooo mad. In recollection I think I had a similar call last year for similar. Now I know it's a scam! "Mr.Lee", said I had a bill from 2 years ago and gave my social but not my right name. Then rudely hung up when I said that was the wrong information. I called back because I couldn't believe it and he yelled at me again to "pay my bills, oh well it will be on your credit". I think after 2 years it would have reached my credit report which I just received and no such debt to a "diagnostic" place was on there.They even had the wrong lab info. These peoples tacktics are a joke.

This number has been calling my cell on and off for the past 6 weeks...even though I have called them and told them I am not the party they are looking for and that I have no business with them nor do they have any business with me.  I give them my cell and tell them I am not Lisa and damn if they don't still call me a week later!!!  Is there an agency that takes care of this kind of harassment????  It's not even like it's my debt they are trying to collect for!!!  And to add insult to injury, when I tell them, this excuse for a man, just hangs up on me!!!  Not...thank you for taking the time to call us and tell us we have the wrong phone number for this person that we are trying to reach....no just click!!
