- AnonymStuttering male, hesitant and sounds uneducated. He stammered through reading a statement saying, "you owe a debt that I need to collect." then gave me another number and sn extension 1211(?) to call back. I love my call block feature. Funny that I got this call hours after publishing my number on Facebook after years of refusing to do so.

- JenHave called a few times the last couple days, when I answer some man you can barely understand asks for me & then say they're going to transfer me to a customer service agent. I wait a few minutes but nobody ever picks up. Assuming it's another bill collector for some of the medical bills we still owe. Guess I'll never know for sure since they won't answer.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Corey CampbellThey call me every single morning at 530am to 630am then don't call all day till the next morning I'm sick of it.

- DonA guy with an accent called, and immediately asked me whether I lived at that address. And he also said that this call may be recorded. And I was like I no longer live there. I was wondering where did they get the information. Then I asked what was it about and who/which company do you represent. He then transferred me over to customer service, and another guy picked saying that I own like "a certain amount of money", and I was like WHAT, and told him that I have NEVER purchased anything from a company that he mentioned online. Then he said that everything I said are going to be documented. Then I hung up.

- AnonymousGot a call for the first time yesterday and not only did they call and leave a message on my cell phone but they called my work number as well leaving the exact same message. Didn't say who the debt was for just that it was for a debt and to call that number and enter an extension. Seemed very odd to me so I decided to look up the phone number and found this site. Glad I did. They've called me twice again today as well. On my cell and my work. Wish they'd get whoever these people are so we'd stop getting phone calls from them.

- Paid them| 1 replyI found them on my credit report. They did fail to mail me any letter. Apparently leaving the utilities on for my mom bit me in the button. There was an outstanding bill that I was unaware of. They verified all information and I paid it off. Hopefully they will remove this from my credit as I was unaware of such a small amount owed.

- BigA replies to Paid themSorry but they are known criminals pretending to be debt collectors. So one of 2 things happened. either you were scammed out of that money or you are a shill trying to make people believe this is a legitimate debt collector. Which is it?
- missy| 1 replyThey can't even tell me what this debt is I haven't been able to work in over three years and rude people

- BigA replies to missyAArgron is a known criminal enterprise operating on several different names trying to extort money from people.
This is what they are required to do by law:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
So, what you should do nest is:
You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notion of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All
By suing them, you will put a nice tidy sum of money in your pocket for the harassment with very little effort on your part.
Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question. As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes. The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question. Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else. So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you. Let the FTC sort it out.
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand.- Caller: informational post
