I keep getting calls for the previous owner of my phone number.  I finally called it back since it's 800 number.  The first time, they kept me on hold for several minutes, music in the background and then it hung up.  So I called back again with a handset that had a timer to show what the wait time was and aftre 3 minutes and 30 seconds, the music goes off.  By 4 minutes, the operator comes on with "if you would like to make a call, please hang up and try again."

The call came up as "Unknown Name", 10:43 a.m. I have no message center so they couldn't leave a message.
It could be a creditor or collection agency. I searched it on an 800 lookup line and didn't come up with anything. I hate having a phone number of a delinquent bill payer, but I suppose that is why they no longer own the number, the [***].
Sometimes being nice to collection agency folks can pay off. I told them that no one by that name lives here, and if they could spell the name. The next thing I knew the guy was saying where she worked, which was unnecessary and maybe illegal, but hey, it's his job to get the money. I continued with friendly banter, and saying that he might try several numbers since the restaurant she worked at was a local chain. Next thing you know he was taking my number off of the list. Woo hoo! I have one less call clogging up my lines.

This number called with an automated message stating it was not a sales or tele-marketing scheme and that it was an important call from Janice Roberts... sounds shady to me.  I don't know anyone named Janice Roberts.

I got a call from this company for someone else.  I pressed "9" to speak to a collector and it informed it is for debt collection.  I talked to the debt collector and told her it was a wrong number and I do not know the party they are trying to call and I have had several calls from this number and it is a cell.  I told her to take my number off her list.  She told me it didn't matter if I was angry or unhappy, they could continue to call it.  I finally yelled to take my number off her list and she said ok.

This number just called me and left a message that I owed some debt... when I returned their call a woman answered and there was an awful lot of noise in the background--a little suspicious-- and she asked me my name and phonenumber, then put me on hold. I just hung up... and I'm certainly glad that I did! This number turnsout to be a scam! I hate people like this... they had better not start calling me or I'll be sure to give them a huge piece of my mind... possibly my attorney's mind as well. DO NOT GOVE ANY INFORMATION OUT TO THE PEOPLE ON THE OTHER END OF THIS LINE!!! IT IS A SCAM!!

    harassed!
I finally decided to call the number, which turned out to be "Bay Area Credit Services" (which is weird because my number has a San Diego area code).  I managed to talk to an agent and explained that I was getting calls which were dropped when I answered.  She apologized for the automated calling machine and asked for my number so she could look it up to see why they were calling my number.  They were looking for a Clinton Jones, who I've never heard of.  After I said that, they said they would take my number off!  So I guess you just have to tell them nicely.

Caller calls for wife's name and I respond, "who is it?  They continue to ask for her and I ask who it is?  They respind Jamie Robert (SP), from J...R...co.
I ask them what it is in regards to as we have never heard of this company.
    They hung up.

I call back and a lady answers and wants wife's birth date.  I tell them, I don't give out information like this and they can tell me what the message is to give her and I will give it to her if it's IMPORTANT.  The lady says, : I have her SSN, her BD and her address I don't think you understand who IU am and what I have.... I tell her to let me speak to her supervisor and she hung up after saying I will gladly let let you!  Please be aware never to give out information or put up with strangers who are demanding, over the phone or not.

I will do a lttile research to find out more and hopefully turn them in.  My government contacts will track them down shortly, and whover the big nut is.

I keep getting these calls and it drives me nuts.  I called the number to ask for Janice Roberts, as instructed, but was put on hold.  I hung up.  Is this a legit business?

My grandmother is getting several calls a week from this number. They screen their calls, so they keep getting these messages from a Janet Roberts about the estate of my great-grandmother, who died several years ago. My great-grandmother had no estate, and everything was taken care of a long time ago. She doesn't leave a company name, just the phone number. My grandmother thought it might be a scam so instead of calling it back she asked me to check it out. Seeing all the other similar aliases and companies, now I'm pretty sure it is. I work for a tv station so I may try to get someone on this to find out more.  What I'd like to know is how they found out my grandmother's name, and her mother's name. It's a bit creepy.

Debt collectors have a variety of resources at their disposal to find out this information. The bottom line is, they may be trying to scam your family out of a debt that your great-grandmother did NOT owe and they need to be STOPPED. If you read the information on Bay Area Credit Services and the other debt collectors on Bud Hibbs' website, you'll see just how disturbing and greedy this industry has become:

    http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/bay_area_credit.htm

I hope that in the process of getting rid of these scumbags who are after your great-grandmother's estate, you will be able to give them the media attention they deserve.

This is an important message for (they spell out the first and last name) and then indicate it is not a sales or marketing call. I was then instructed to have the person call Janice Roberts at 1-800-862-4187. The person they are looking for is my daughters mother, we have been divorced for over 13 years.

"This is an important call for ___________"  Riiiiiiight.  I have heard that scammers/debt collection agencies will grab every phone number for a certain name such as "Joel Robertson" in an attempt to locate the 1 guy who actually owes them money.  Kind of creepy, this happened to my wife and they asked for her by name on the machine, we called back and it was some bank looking for her namesake who lived in some other state and had an entirely different middle name.  We checked the bank/company out online before we called and it appeared legit, no problems from them since and no strange charges either.  That was like 6 months ago.
