- LAW| 1 replyI don't have voice mail, but my phone has different ringers for different people. I created a contact called "XYZ" and assigned it "no ringer". I've added this number to that contact, now when they call my phone doesn't even ring!

- Bill| 1 replyReceived a voicemail from ?? giving this 800 number. Called back and learned they were looking for my deceased brother. She asked if I was handleing his affairs. I am not. She asked me to get a copy of his death certificate. I told her I was not handling his affairs and offered to direct her to the Medical Examiner or County Recorder. Her last statement was that if I did not do this I would continue to receive calls and she hung up. Isn't there a way to complain to the Federal government about violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act or something similar? Debt collectors are supposed to stop their calls if requested.

- housewifeWe get calls from annoying 1800 numbers and this is one of them. No one here answers those calls and one time my 2 yr. old nephew answered the phone, and it was just so hilarious. A cute baby talk v. automated voice haha. Anyway, they still keep calling and calling. So the best advice of all is don't answer it.
- AllenB| 1 replyWas called at 8:06 AM by a recording stating they were trying to collect a debt from "Tonya Williams." I know of no such person, so I called them back asking them how they got my number, thinking she may have been a previous owner of my house. She rudely said "goodbye" and hung up on me.

- Fight Back!| 1 replyI have received several calls a week from this agency. One guy said he was "officer Jamie Roberts" then changed it to "from the office of Jamie Roberts" when I questioned him. I believe that the law states that harrassment over the phone is illegal and you can demand that inquiries come by mail only. Let's all fight back against this type of harrassment and intimidation.
- Caller: Jamie Robertson or Roberts
- richThese people, that famous "Janice Roberts" again, called me about my ex wife. We divorced almost ten years ago in a state very far away from where I live now. I never had a phone number in the state where we lived before. She never has seen this house, or, to my knowledge, has ever been in the state. They dropped the call within one second of my announcement that it'd been about a decade since... and she never lived here.
- JenniferMy ex-husband who is homeless and a drug addict used an old address of mine (without permission) as an address to get a drivers license. Now I am getting a ton of calls from this number and several others. I answered once, told them that he does not live here, never has lived here, that he is homeless, I am not married to him and am not interested in his bills. I gave them his work phone and his cell phone, and she said that I need to provide her with a copy of my divorce papers and proff that he doesn't live here. I told her I am not sending her anything, that this is not my problem. She said that if he has no money and I do, that they will keep comming to me to get the money, so concider it my problem. He claims they have never called him. I screen all calls and just ignor them now, but it I get 2 or more calls every single day from this number alone.

- BewilderedTheir computer dials my number up to three times a day.
When I wait to talk to them, they want $690 for an ambulance ride I don't remember from three years ago for
which I was never billed for from this ambulance company.
They wanted credit card numbers or bank routing numbers.
They refuse to send me a bill in the mail so I might be
able to go to the ambulance company to see if the bill is
legit.- Caller: Bay Area Credit Services

- Not Kevin SullivanThey have been leaving messages on my cell phone for Kevin Sullivan. My phone identifies who I am, I am not Kevin, not even a male.... I have left a voicemail message on my phone with their name telling them that if they continue to harrass me I will sue them. Actually I think after reading these other posts I should report them to the OCC. Maybe report the scam to the phone company that owns that number. Lets get their name, number and modus operandi public, put it on your blogs, send "pass along" emails, lets get this rat out into the light of day.
I have had my number for 5 years and don't even live in California. This is obviously a scam and we need to get the authorities to kick them to the curb for us, since we know the CIA can find anyone they want to.- Caller: Jamie Robertson Bay Area Collections

In my case they are harassing me over someone else's debt, someone that I have never even heard of before.
You can sent them lots and lots of email too, with large format pictures of unhappy victims at sales@bayareacredit.com - Not Kevin Sullivan replies to LAWThat's not stopping them in the long run. Write them at the address below and report them to the

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/fdc.shtm - KimMy husband and I have been receiving calls from this number. They are looking for someone who lived at this address 3 years ago but the phone number was not theirs, it was a new number assigned when my husband and I bought the house. The call with automated messages saying the same thing posted...'call from Janice Robert' and to return their call at the same number 1-800-862-4187. Funny thing is that even when we answer the phone when they call there is noone on the line. The message tells us to hang up and call them back.
I called our phone company and they instructed me on how to block the call so we shouldn't receive any calls from that number any longer. They also gave me their Legal Department and I'm going to report this them and maybe they can do something. We're also on a 'Do Not Call' list.- Call type: Debt collector
- LevWe've been getting almost daily calls from this Bay Area Credit Bureau for months now. It's an automated recording which only gives us the option of hanging up if we're not the person they're looking for. But hanging up is no help because they just keep calling forever anyway.
I got fed up this morning, dialed *69 and got the number. Then I called my phone company about it and all they could do is refer me to their Annoyance Call Bureau but they told me they won't do anything about tele-marketers or debt collection calls.
I called Bay Area Credit Bureau and talked to someone who identified himself as Jesse Williams and he said it would take 72 hours to remove out number from "the system." When I told him how annoying it is to not be able to answer the call and tell someone to stop the harassment, he got extremely snotty and in the rudest tone of voice you can imagine said "have a nice holiday Sir." He might as well have said, "I hope your whole family dies horribly" in THAT tone of voice.
If the calls don't stop in 72 hours I'm definitely contacting the FCC.
Oh, BTW, to the person above who is on the do-not-call list, it doesn't matter. These guys are debt collectors, not tele-marketers, so they can harass you all they want, even though you're not the person they're after.- Caller: Bay Area Credit Bureau

- JDG| 1 replyMy Father has been getting calls from this number, yesterday he finally answered the phone. They said he owed money for an ambulance ride he never took in 2005. They wanted the last 4 numbers of his SS#. They were looking for someone who's name was similar but not the same as my Father. Something similar happened to my roommate a couple of weeks ago. Both my roommate and my Father are digital voice customers.

- ec replies to JDGAs with most debt collectors, Bay Area Credit is not to be trusted -- especially considering that many of their collectors are calling from India. Here's some information on Bay Area Credit and advice on dealing with them: http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/bay_area_credit.htm
Hopefully, your father didn't disclose any personal information to them. I would suggest that he or his legal representative send these clowns a letter notifying them that they are to cease all attempts to contact him and that he'll pursue legal sanctions against them if fail to comply with the cease-communication notice. If they contact him more than once after receiving the letter, then they are in violation of the law and subject to fines. Just be sure to send the letter via certified US Mail with a return receipt request, and save a copy of the letter. Here is their address:
Bay Area Credit Services
50 Airport Parkway, #100
San Jose, CA 95110
There's more information on the cease-communication letter and plenty of other good info on Bud Hibbs' website. Here are the links to that website and other sites that should be helpful in defending your father against these creeps:

http://fair-debt-collection.com/ - Jeff from MichiganYes it's from a bill collector for Memeorial Hospital in Mississippi. They treated me very nice. I told them I was in bankruptcy and wouldn't be able to pay. I didn't the right info for them for the court date, so they said to call them back and the calls would stop. Guess I gotta call 'em now to stop the calls ---just like they said.
- 1madmarinemy wife got this call at 7:00 p.m. looking for a name she had never heard of before. she hung-up because the automated caller asked her to hold for an important message. then i got suspicious and returned the phone call and found it was from bay area debt collection agency. after some questions about their company's validity, if they were based in the u.s. or in some foreign country, the operator consented to delete my phone # from their files. i could hear a lot of background noise, somewhat like a restaurant. my questions were very direct and discourteous, just like i used to address recruits. the operator's final comment before she ended the call was,"that i should be little nicer on the phone". why should i be courteous to a bunch of liars and scammers?

- Vicki from Santa Cruz Ca.We have received two calls from this number - leaving a message to call back. Both calls are asking for a returned call to "the office of Jaime Roberts". The messages are for my former husband, who is deceased.I'm glad that I checked these blogs. Very helpful. This kind of scam needs to be exposed. It makes me sick that this organization can harass people and not much that we can do about it.
