    Collection agency.

After getting a new pay as you go cell phone, I started getting calls from this number (about once a week).  I pay for each call, so I refused to answer.

I got tired of rejecting their calls, so I called.  (I called from a payphone in case the call charged by the hour because I didn't like 900 being in the phone number).

When they answered, they were abrupt and did not identify who they were.  I told the person that I assumed that they were trying to contact the previous owner of my cell number and asked if they could remove me from their list.  She asked what my cell number was and gave me the name of the person she was trying to contact. When I told her that I never heard of the person, she said that she would have my number taken off the list.  She said it would be off in about 24 hours.

After she said the number is being removed, I asked who I was calling.  She mumbled the answer.  I thought it ended in the word credit, so I asked "Collection Agency?".  She said "Yeah".

Without saying a single negative word, the tone of voice in this person said that she is an absolute B_ _ch.

I don't know if they actually took my number off the list or if they just identified it as being a live number.  Only time will tell.

This number calls 4 to 5 times a day and when I answer they do no speek.. Its out of hand and I want it stopped.. I called the number back and they told me I was in dept to them and gave me an address in a state I never even stepped foot in. The lady on the other end was stating that I have the same name as someone there looking for and the calls will stop in 24 hours... I hope thats the case cause these people call everyday starting at 8am, if I didn't have an alarm clock it would be perfect... Only time will tell if the calls will stop...

These people call me at least 3 times a day and they never leave a message I tried to call back but they leave me on hold. As far as I know I don't owe any money to any company. I am on the do not call list and still get harassed? What was the point of the list. I have no idea who they are.

No ... they are calling because someone who owes money once had your phone number or gave
your phone number.  We have had numerous agencies from all over the country and overseas from India calling us for 3 years since we got our present phone number.  We know the person's name which even came up on the computer at Sears with our number.  No matter how many times we explain it, none of the agencies are willing or able to stop calling our number. I think they just sell the debt to another agenciy and it starts all over again.  The solution for us was the Panasonic Dect6 phone with 30 number call blocking.  It disconnects the caller on the first ring when a calling number is flagged on our block list.  I only wish it could block 100 numbers because the 30 blocked numbers are the most recent 30 collection calls for this same person.  NO WE ARE NOT WANDA !!!!!!

I have received multiple calls form this number. It is a bill collector looking to collect some money.

I had the misfortune to buy a house 13yrs ago and the debtor had rented this house for a few months before I bought it. The bill collector cross referenced the address of the debtor to my cell phone. I so not know the debtor, have never met him, have no idea where he is. I have asked them to quit calling me but they keep calling.

Any ideas how to make them stop calling?

Funny thing about the DNCL is that it ONLY applies to telemarketers, and only to them not calling private residences.

It doesn't stop business-to-business telesales, and more importantly& relating to these calls, it doesn't apply to bill collectors.

The best you can do is take the call & upon finally speaking to a human being, say this:

"I hereby formally request that you cease & desist all calls regarding the collection of this debt. I am aware of the debt & now that I have your contact information I will contact you when I am ready to settle this account. Further calls or correspondence will not be tolerated, and will be prosecuted under the full extent of the law. Good day."

Here's why they have to obey: Section 806(5) of the FDCPA ( Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) prohibits contacting the consumer by telephone "repeatedly or continuously with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the called number."

       1. Multiple phone calls. "Continuously" means making a series of telephone calls, one right after the other. "Repeatedly" means calling with excessive frequency under the circumstances.

Section 806(6) prohibits, except where section 804 applies, "the placement of telephone calls without meaningful disclosure of the caller's identity."

       1. Aliases. A debt collector employee's use of an alias that permits identification of the debt collector (i.e., where he uses the alias consistently, and his true identity can be ascertained by the employer) constitutes a "meaningful disclosure of the caller's identity."

       2. Identification of caller. An individual debt collector must disclose his employer's identity, when discussing the debt on the telephone with consumers or third parties permitted by section 805(b).

       3. Relation to other sections. A debt collector who uses a false business name in a phone call to conceal his identity violates section 807(14), as well as this section.

I hope this helps & actually gives you the feeling of being armed against these unrelenting [***]!

Me too!  They must have an autodialer and keeps leaving these 'half messages' on my answering machine.  Luckily, my voice mail providers tells me the number that they're calling from so I've called them twice and they give me the name of the person that they're trying to reach. I tell them that I don't know this person and they tell me that they're going to remove the number, but THEY NEVER DO!

Just received a call from this number. They mentioned a debt due of $46. When I began to question who they were and on whose behalf they were calling, they hung up.
