I got a call yesterday from the CRA at the number 18009311926, I wasn't home so they provided a call back number 18002384413 and asked me to have my sin card handy. So I called punched the number into the touch pad the person on the other end was very nice and was just wondering when I would be paying the balance I have remaining {he knew the exact number how would he know this if it's a scam}.

Anyways I just got off the phone after calling 1800OCANADA after reading on here and getting paranoid and 18002384413 and 18009311026 are both legit, and yes they will call and ask you to callback with your sin it even says on their website. I hope this puts an end top this discussion.

As per telephone calls, the CRA will occasionally leave messages for taxpayers on their answering machines. In these cases, a callback number will be provided along with a request to have the taxpayer's SIN available upon callback. However, it is important to note that not all telephone messages purporting to be from the CRA are genuine. Should taxpayers have any concerns, they may verify the authenticity of a 1-800 CRA telephone number by calling 1-800-O-Canada (1-800-622-6232).

They have been calling for several days, when asnwering, line hang up. Called back to check on my account and everything is fine, no traces of someone calling me and no $ own. Beware, scammers can probably fake the caller ID.

I had received a call from  ( 1800 931 1026 )  The message that was left was from a so called agent that wanted me to call this number ( 1866 238 4413 )  and give my SIN to one of their agents ..   Caller id came up as GOC-GDC...   Im glad that i had done some research on this suspicious phone call on-line to find out that this is just a scam from ppl trying to aquire ur personal information...   CRA would never ask for ur SIN over the phone..  They already have that info..   Thanks to u all for the heads up !!  I almost got sucked into this scam...

I just recieved a message from this number.  It was a man with a heavy accent and he said he is with the Canada Revenue Agency re; an "important tax matter" He instructed me to call 1-866-238-4413 back with my SIN # ready.  I don't think so!!!  My suspicions are it's a scam or collection agency of some sort.  I have dealt with CRA in the past and it is always by mail.

Well has anyone checked into the callback numbers?  If a gov't agency is resorting to autodial/telemarketing schemes, then why wouldn't we label it as fraud.   We get bombarded with fraudulent 800 numbers everyday.  It's hard to trust any of them.

They ghost the CRA's number! This is either a collection agency or a viscious scam.  Either way they are not tax collectors, nor from the government.

This number calls several times a day, no message left and same Caller ID as others have stated. I've dealt with the Government before in regards to my Student Loan and ANY and ALL correspondence with them was done via letters in the mail and ANY phone conversations that took place were from me calling them and at that I did NOT have to give my SIN number but only a case ID number that was included in the letter. While the number being cited is indeed a legit number it is being spoofed by scammers to try and get some valuable information. Annoying? Yes, but don't be stupid and give out your personal information over the phone guys! If you are afraid it MIGHT be the Government, it is your legal right to ask that any correspondance be sent to you in writing before you offer any information up. FYI, my student loan was paid in full 2 years ago and this is a brand new phone number that the Government doesn't have registered to me yet until I file my taxes so I know it's not for that. :)

I just got a call for  1 800 931-1026 and thought I would google the phone number to see if it was legitimate.  After reading on here I am thinking not!  The guy put me on hold as soon as I answered then said he had to call back when he had my information??  What the hell is that?  Glad that everyone has put their comments on here.  It saved me as I would have wondered what they wanted as I don't owe any money to them!  Thanks again everyone!!!

If it is Revenue Canada why they call. Usually they send only letters. To collect money they can send letters, why call. seems fishy (I received call today)

This is Revenue Canada.  It is not a scam.  They are calling business that are late in filing their gst/hst.

I received this call from this number at my business. My daughter picked it up, the other end hung up. I would like this investigated please!!!

It really is the number for Revenue Canada. They gave me a government number to call and verify the legitimacy of the 800931 1026 number, which I did, and I called them back. The end result is I didn't have to give them any personal info, I just had to mail a document to the Surrey Tax Centre.
