- Dawn wisconsin replies to DMaggioTrish is a damn joke..No way can a credit card company take your home...Screw them and keep your house..Keep making your mortgage payments..Worst they can do is put a judgment against you..Don't even pick up the phone if you do hang the phone up.
- JamesNew method for these losers. If you are a user of Linkedin or other professional sites, they will contact the website and tell them that their are inconsistencies in your employer information. The website will contact you to clarify. The collection company is hoping that you will update your profile with an employer or contact information so that they have another means of harassing you. The bottom line is that they are just another dirty collection agency who thinks that they are more clever than the next one. Fortunately, new collection practices laws are in place and you can easily make their calls stop. If they violate those laws they can be sued. They assume most people don't have the means to sue them because if they had the money to sue they wouldn't have collectors calling them. Simply request in writing that they do not contact you. Keep a copy of the letter and send it certified mail with return receipt.

- Linda| 2 repliesI started receiving calls from "UCB" on my cell phone [I never give out that number]. The incoming caller i.d.s were all different area codes that do not match state area codes. They looked like they were cell numbers. I was told to call [a person's name] at 800-935-1798 x 63958 and was given an 8-digit "reference number".
When I called the 800-number, someone answered "UCB". I asked what UCB stood for, she said "it depends on your reference number". OK ... when I gave her the reference number, she said "United Collection Bank". I was multitasking and immediately did web search while still on the phone. There is a United Collection BUREAU, but United Collection BANK does not come up on a web search. Bogus Company???
She connected me to ex. 63958 and a man answered [the original message was left by a woman]. He stated that he needed the last 4 digits of my SSN and my mailing address because I had an uncollected debt. Since I KNOW this is false, I would not give him any information. He started to threaten me ~ saying "YOU KNOW YOU OWE THIS MONEY". I finally got him to tell me "who holds the uncollected debt". He gave me the name of a debit card company I have NEVER done business with. I thanked him and told him I'd call the company to check it out. He didn't like that idea ... said I had to deal with him.
I hung up and called the company myself. They went through their records and confirmed that I did NOT have an account with them. Furthermore, they said they had never heard of United Collection BANK.
The phone company told me to report United Collection Bank to the Attorney General's Office and the Federal Trade Commission.
I have also had my credit reports run and contacted LifeLock ~ nothing bad is on my credit and I intend to keep it that way. BEWARE of these phone calls. It sounds like a scam to steal your identity.- Caller: UCB "United Collection Bank"

- Alexandria replies to BILLMASTERYou are not God....DO NOT JUDGE. You know NOTHING about my life or anyone else's. The economy is in the toilet, gas prices are high, and the cost of food is rising. So, when it comes to paying what I feel are important bills like house payment, utilities, gas, and grocery; at this point I say "who cares" about unimportant bills like credit cards...they will have to wait. I own a retail store in a 100% tourist town and our town has NEVER full recovered from 2008 when gas prices skyrocketed. How dare you judge me and others without knowing the situation we are in. You are disgusting and a poor excuse of a human being.
- AnnoyedWe also received a call from this company on our new landline. No one answered when I picked up. We get constant calls for the previous owner of our new number. Lucky us.
- AnonymThese people do not know how to tell time!!!!!!!!
YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CALL AFTER 9PM......IT IS ILLEGAL !!!!!!!
And to begin leaving a message with the words "good morning Mr......" then just hang up??
my message was left at 9:41PM - LMMThey just called my new home number again! I was able to answer once, about a week ago, and told them the person they are trying to call is no longer at this number. I have no idea who had the number before me. They have since called, gotten my voice mail, and now they are calling and asking for me! STOP THE MADNESS! I owe nothing so they are just calling numbers to get names so they can continue to harass people. I called back and asked again to stop calling me, that the person they are calling is no longer at this number. They said they would remove my number, and then just hung up.

- TraciJust got a call looking for my step-sister whom I've never lived with. The lady is Mrs. Charles, and she said she was with UCB and it was regarding a "business matter". Left extension x3668, asked to have my stepsister call her. She was actually very nice, and assured me that my number would be removed from their list... we'll see if it's actually removed.

- Consumer"UCB"...purposefully mixing the words 'bureau' and 'bank'...how typical.
I read a lot of the entries in these forums and there are some common themes and observations that I've noted:
If all of these agencies' contact is by phone, this is a huge red flag. With nothing in writing, there is no paper trail. Why would they try so hard to avoid a paper trail? If this were a legitimate debt, there'd be no problem sending a demand letter and properly serving you for a court hearing. But, they don't. Curious...
They like to obfuscate the mandates of the FDCPA. The two most common, that I've seen anyway, are that they, as a 3rd party collector, can contact you forever about a debt. No. Only the original creditor or their assignees can. Look at those credit applications that you fill out - the fine print somewhere on the back tell you that you are also agreeing to accept communication for 'assignees.' They will either say that they are an assignee or that they, as a 3rd party collector, can contact you forever. The SOL is in place for a reason and these clowns know it. They're simply banking on the possibility that you don't. Never, NEVER fall for this.
The second thing that I see, something that seems universal for these creeps, is the insistence that the Consumer doesn't need to talk to an attorney before agreeing to anything. Think about it - if money is the matter and your adversary tells you that you don't need to talk to an attorney, then you more than likely DO need to talk to an attorney. In fact, I'll go out on a limb here and say that ANY time you are told by someone with whom you have a financial dispute that you don't need an attorney, in reality you DO.
Lying and obfuscating are these creeps' stock and trade.- Caller: UCB - or any debt collection agency

- Waste of Time Calls!!!Received a call 4/19/12 from this number. The guys name was Matt and he said it was imperative that so-and-so call him back immediately. He said I was listed as the Secretary to the International Women's Forum and the person he was asking about is a Consul to the organization. I've never heard of the person OR the organization. I told the guy I had no clue who he was looking for and he argued with me purely because my first name coincidentally was the same. I asked him for a last name and of course... it was NOT mine. He said in a very curt manner "fine... I'll have your number removed because I'm not going to debate with you".
I kicked myself all the way to work for wasting my time by answering the call !!!
