- Idiots...| 1 replyYou people that post for this particular number are all IDIOTS! Did it ever occur to you that you should answer the phone and find out why they are calling? Sure, you may have no debt that you know of but isn't it possible that someone stole your identity and got a credit card in your name? Wouldn't you want to find out about that? Besides, I have dealt with a lot of debt collectors (Now I'm debt free) and the Northland Group is probably one of the more ethical companies I've ever encountered. As for the people who don't answer at all because they "have no debt"; maybe they're calling for someone else and they have the wrong number? Therefore, if you answer the darn phone perhaps they WOULD take your name off their list and stop bothering you? For the record, Northland has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. They (Northland) take care of ALL the complaints to the BBB.
- oreganWhen my phone rings and an unwanted number comes up it just happens to be at the time I am using my referee's whistle for my dogs and OOPS, I've already picked up the receiver. Then I accidently hang up.

- oreganI only happen to do this when companies call that I have used every effort to stop. We are completely debt free.

- donjr replies to ANNIESince your such an expert...These people do not care to be told that they have no business calling and that they are chasing a ghost. They are without a doubt obnoxious in their dialing and do NOT take no for an answer.
So keep your advice to yourself righteousness! - AnonymJust another bottom feeder (like Portfolio) that tried to intimidate people into collecting uncollectable debts. They are quite proud of their harrasment methods that they employ. Take a look by searching for their name and the word "complaints" in Google. Also check out Clark Howards page on bottom feeders.

- HarassedThe Northland Group was founded in 1982. They provide business process outsourcing services focused on accounts receivable management and collection services for national credit grantors, debt buyers, and student loan lenders and servicers.
The Northland Group professes to be a recognized leader in late stage receivables management as a result of their unique collection strategies, using highly-trained staff and years of experience. They claim that proven performance helps our business members ("customers") increase profitability and dramatically improve recovery rates while preserving the relationship with the "consumer" (meaning, the people they dun).

- LolloWe owe nothing yet we are getting harassing calls from this number (800-942-1572) and from a number in Texas.. We live in Oregon. They call and when I do answer they say nothing or their automated dialer calls and says please hold on we want to talk to you and then it hangs up..They leave messages some times that sound legit like "we still need to make arrangements to meet up with you before the hearing"..Yah right...what hearing? One called and left a message that just said "Mom?" I assume figuring I would answer if I thought it was my child calling me. They will use what ever tactic they think might work. This is pure harassment and uncalled for calls. I have always paid my bills and have a very high score..(hopefully I still do). These are low life people who have nothing better to do than to sit on their favorite lounge chair sipping a cola, chewing on their favorite donuts with their fat shirtless bellies hanging out over their dirty shorts while dialing number after number trying to make a dirty buck, others sit around in a bldg with many others all calling number after number also sitting around eating and chatting with their cohorts in crime. My husband worked in a place like this for a very short time as a guard for a second job (and you better believe they have many guards floating around for their safety) He couldn't stand to see what was going on. He quit the job because of his own morale views.
There is a very special place reserved in Hell for people like these and I hope it has something to do with having a phone glued to both of their ears and the phones ringing constantly.- Caller: Northland

- Lollo replies to Idiots...Obviously there are Idiots of all types in this World, if you have read any of the complaints you would realize that many have answered the phones only to be told that they can't offer any info, just pay the money...These are people who are hired to do a job no matter how dirty it is and they don't have a clue what they are doing, they are trained in what to say and handed numbers to call. They can be very rude and obnoxious. You sound like you must have an investment of some sorts with this company. If it were you being called constantly, harassed and spoken rudely to, being called a liar when you tell them you are not the person they are trying to reach I imagine you might have a different opinion. As far as someone stealing your identity, your bank would be the first to question you as to any strange dealings going on with your account. Many are talking about debts that are ancient or have already been resolved yet they still get harassed only because of this automated World we live in today and their numbers don't get removed when they should have or their number once belonged to someone elses phone. As far as the BBB, that's a joke..if you have money, well lets just say you don't bite the hand that feeds you. I have found in reading all of these messages that those who have defended this company come across much more angry than those who are having problems with them..hmmm
- LolloRight after I posted on here my Son stopped by to visit. I was sharing with him some of the stories on here and as we spoke he was looking at his mail and would you believe he was holding in his hand a letter from Northland Group. It said he owed over $3,000 but they would except a little over $1,000. That this was a debt they were collecting from a Cap one card.. HE DOES NOT OWN A CAP ONE CARD and never has. Also that he has to write them with in 30 days other wise they will "assume" this is a valid debt..What the heck? They put people out at their leisure not only with the constant calls but also with your time in having to write them to tell them they are poorly mistaken and to leave him alone. as if that will help stop them.
We as a family have always been responsible and paid bills. The way the times are now he did run into a bit of trouble in losing his Job and got a little behind but since then has acquired a different Job and has caught himself up quickly on any money he did owe out there. He is a responsible young man and his actions have proven that but these people are simply trying to scam him out of money he does not owe. It seems they like to use Cap one which is strange since Cap One has their own internal debt collections and do not send it out to other collectors. These people need to be stopped. - Old ManI discovered a great trick to stop telemarketers from calling. I answer the phone politely, and when they ask for "so-and-so" I simply say: "Hold on please" and I set the phone down. Meanwhile, they are losing valuable time waiting. Eventually of course they hang up, but after several calls and waiting each time, they finally give-up. I suppose they flag my phone number as a waste of time.
Yelling and screaming at these people won't hurt them where it counts. Instead, make them waste their valuable telemarketing time on hold. The power is in your hands!- Caller: "Toll Free"

- FatboyYou people are clueless on how to handle these (and other) scumbags...
On my cell phones I don't answer strange numbers, period.
Numbers that appear are then researched and if a scumbag I save the number and assign it a ringtone that has no sound. I don't use vibrate either.
The only way that I know they have called is a missed call notice or an occassional voice mail.
Don't waste your time talking to them!!! - NotAnnieJust put the call on hold and forget about it. Almost any type of phone has a "hold" feature - you don't have to say anything, just pick-up and press hold then go about your biz. Eventually they stop calling.
Or if you want to have a little fun, answer the phone "Police Dept" and say "Please hold for the next available officer", ....and then put them on hold. If you have elevator music on your hold feature all the better. :D- Caller: Northland Group
