- JWhat legitimate company calls at 9PM?!
- BarbaraCalled to speak to my cousin regarding a debt. When I explained that he died 9 months ago, they asked me to fax a copy of his death certificate to them. Since that includes his social security number, I will not since they would not provide me with any information as to what account they were trying to collect without providing them with a Power of Attorney letter which I do not have. Let them continue to waste their time trying to extort payment from a man who died without leaving any assets. I will not answer or return calls to this number.
- Caller: Financial Corporation of America
- Call type: Debt collector
- Janie| 1 replyWrite down the date and time of each call and then call an attorney who handles nuisance calls. If you owe a debt then a copy of the name of the company, the service rendered or article bought, the date and the amount is required to be mailed to you as proof of debt. They would already have this information plus your address or a number of ways to find your address. if it is a debt owed, do not give them any additional information. Check your credit report too. After I sent a registered letter requesting proof of debt be mailed to me, I did not hear anything else from them nor did I ever receive a proof of debt statement.
- Caller: Financial Corp
- Call type: Debt collector

- Teiyia replies to LeahHere is what I do for annoying people who call me wanting someone other than me, or weird spam callers who are computers wanting someone other than me. I go to my phone, save their number, and under "contacts" as their name I put "[***]". That way, when they call, my phone lights up, and the word "[***]" is on the screen, I know not to answer it.
- EeveeI try to give people this information anywhere I can, but debt collectors MUST do three things, if so requested by the person they are trying to contact for the debt. It is the law, period.
1. If requested, the caller MUST give you their phone number, company name and main address, and other such information. It is illegal for them to claim you owe a debt and demand your information, but refuse to inform you of who they are and what they are about.
2. If requested, they MUST sent a certified mailed paper copy of the required information on your debt, who it's from originally, who the company is that is now collecting it (if it was passed on), and the like. If they refuse to do so, it is illegal and is more than likely fraudulent, or the debt collector is intentionally breaking laws.
3. The debt collector is NEVER, under ANY circumstance, allowed to even mention jail time, law enforcement visiting you at home or your place of employment, or anything like that. If a debt collector or similar party is taking legal action against you for failure to pay or otherwise, there are extensive and strict means for them to do so, and you will most definitely be made aware of this situation should it arise. If a debt collector threatens you with going to jail or having law enforcement come get you, then they are scammers. This is highly illegal for anyone to do, and in most cases, nobody can even threaten you with legal action, unless you receive some form of summons or subpoena through legitimate means (this may vary by state).
So please keep these tips in mind when dealing with these criminals, as these are the general rules for such callers in this types of fields. If they fail to or actively refuse to follow these guidelines, then chances are they are fraudulent. Do not give them ANY information at that point nor acknowledge that you are the person they state they are looking for, if you are them. Simply inform them that they can choose to present you with certified documents of your alleged debt with them or another, or the required information for who they are, or you will not be answering any questions or giving them any information on the matter until they complete the required tasks.- Caller: Numbercop-according to Truecaller app
- EeveeThese asshats feel that it's acceptable to call three or four times extremely quickly at 9:30 at night, or sometimes later. I've gotten calls from them very, very early as well. It says "Numbercop" on the caller ID for the call blocking app I use. I've researched this company before, which hysterically enough, provides a service for blocking harrasaing calls, texts, etc. The number that calls and their listed contact number does not match, however, so I assume that if this is them, they are calling from another department within the company.
I've never answered it. The app blocks it immediately. It is very annoying and pisses me off that they call at times when people are trying to sleep. They can suck it, I'm sick of people like them. I don't know what they want with me, the number they call is a different area code from where I'm living (under my dad's bill), and I've NEVER subscribed or anything similar to theirs or others' services in the past.
I'm going to start looking for a blocking app that leaves a special message with them every time they call, just because I'm so sick of this. These pricks aren't worth anyone's time.- Caller: Numbercop, supposedly

- scrutiny replies to Flordeliza LamasterIt seems to me that Sammi was not the caller nor part of Financial Corporation of America. I think he's saying that FCA is a debt collector. Poor Sammi hahaha!
- FionaThey must be branching out. I received a voice mail promoting Hillary Clinton for President.
- Caller: Don T

- Huntsville replies to SammiHospital collections. I was extremely sick and they asked for insurance info after giving me strong painkillers. I told them the insurances I had. They tried to file the bill on my dental. Now they want me to pay for the entire bill out of pocket as the filing time on my health insurance has passed. Sorry - your mistake. I'm filing a complaint on the hospital and may do the same with this collector.
- annie replies to HMMM...FISHY COMPANY!!Thx for the info. Appreciate yr time.
- Cajun Freckles replies to SammiI don't even have any debt for these people to collect. Yet, they continue to harass me.

- HMThey called me twice and I called back. First off, they wanted my credit card number or my social security number! BS! Scammers! I do not have a CitiCard account.
- Caller: CitiCard
- Ann replies to Pat1-800-950-5762 is continuously calling me attempting to collect a medical debt on behalf of Financial Corp of America. I called back the first time to inquire why they are calling however, I do not have any outstanding medical bills because I have health insurance. They insist on getting your personal information by asking you to confirm your address, phone number and etc...they should have that information already or some sort of control number to look you up and besides you should have received a bill with who, what and where...etc. they are scamming people. I asked them to send a copy of the bill on record to the address they have and still have not gotten a copy.
- BigAYou need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Looks like they are having trouble paying their bills:

They filed for Chapter 11 then Chapter 7. No wonder they are ignoring the FDCPA and other various state laws.
Looks like they get sued a lot also:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

"Collector" did not identify party or his name. He left message to call a different number, 880-8282. There was no response at that number. I am very leery of the validity of this call. Will block and not respond. I have no delinquent debts. I will not hesitate to take further action.
