Wow, these guys never give up, do they?  They haven't even changed their phone number to avoid all the scam reports that have been posted for ... how many years now?

I just got a couple of calls from them today, back-to-back, only 2 minutes apart.  The first message stated that her name was Candice and she was conducting a fraud investigation and that it was extremely important I call her back right away.  The second message was from the same woman but simply stated that she was from Spectrum Billing and calling about "a very important matter."  Phone number she left was 1-800-616-7833, ext. 1460.

    Unbelievable.

Same here.  It's a scam.  I called Spectrum billing and explained the situation and they said,  absolutely not.  They're not in the business of collecting in that manner.  They usually send out something in writing.  Cindy called us too,  asking for payment.  I said we're would not pay and she got so upset and threatened legal action and hung up. Lol

received a call from this number from a lady named Candace asking me to get my husband to call them cuz he has a bill with them! But she couldn’t give me information! No idea how she got my number! Anyway they called him m asked him to verify a voice recording they had cuz Candace is telling him that he has a $170+ bill from being on a adult entertainment line with a credit card on file that he doesn’t have! He told them that voice is not his so she says ok I’ll call your wife!
She calls me n try’s to get me to confirm that it’s him n I told her it’s not. But Candace is very rude n won’t reason with you. Says to get a police report! Also when we called that number back n went thru the automated system to act like we’d py the bill it said if you’re Joseph stetting press 1
Otherwise recheck your reference number when we made them aware of that trying to get them to understand that it’s not our bill they updated their automated system and put my husbands name in it
So frustrating to deal with these ppl!

So what happens if you pay? Me and some of my friends are guilty of calling the adult phone line a couple months ago and I just got a call yesterday saying I had $111 bill. If I pay will they stop or should I not pay? Also idk how it works but they had the last 4 digits of my last debit card. Also left a number to call 1-800-616-7833

If you called an adult phone line, then you get charged for them through your phone service provider.....right?
Your phone service account has the last 4 digits of the card you use to pay them right?

Seems easy enough to figure out if you owe or not. The phone company doesn't call you about what charges you got, do they? I would call them and ask if those Adult phone lines were charged to your phone bill or not.

The even more suspicious thing is that it's from October and I only just canceled my debit card a few days ago

After looking up that number you gave 1-800-616-7833, I found its Spectrum Billing Services. SBS operates a national pay-per-call telephone network , so thats who you should be calling to resolve the calling issues.
According to the terms of service on all pay-per-call transactions, the calling party is advised that in the event the charges incurred for the call transaction fail to settle on the credit card or debit card presented for payment, then the calling party will be billed directly by SBS.

If you made the calls to the adult line and still owe, then yes, you should pay it to them and the calls should stop.

Check your debit card's statement and see if its been paid, if so, then its either a billing error or a scammer trying to get you.

I see that someone else actually called Spectrum and they told him they do not collect money in this manner.  It pays to read and learn all the time.

What do you recommend I do? I've had bad anxiety about it since yesterday especially after reading about those numbers. This was also the 3rd time I've been called and only one I answered, the other 2 times they didn't leave voicemails. I dont wanna give them my debit card info because people have been saying not to

And wouldn't they mail me something about it or not?

Did you give them your mailing address in addition to your debit card and phone number? If so, then call Spectrum and request they send you the bill to the address they have on file, to prove you owe it. If you didn't give it to them, then they couldn't possibly mail you anything.

Nothing to be anxious over, you either paid it and owe nothing or you didn't pay it and still owe them. The only way to resolve it is going to be confronting them about the calls.

This is starting to look like one of those tie us up threads where they keep asking questions and playing stupid to see how many replies they can get.

I'm pretty sure this same person posted in another thread about the same thing. I saw it while I was at work so don't have the number he posted under.

I thought so too, even thought it could be a strange shill method of posting,  but it seems to have finally concluded in the other thread.

I gave him benefit of doubt as someone overly cautious and  kinda put him on the spot to bring it to an end. At least the discussion should be a benefit to others in deciding if its a scammmer or not calling them.

He came back. He paid them with a Visa gift card and since it went through he figures he was just "overreacting".

I'm  leaning towards that  idea of a "strange shill method" again, but I don't want to encourage him any further by responding.
