So, if you will make the payment you have to take the eBay agent name and details from the invoice and use those info to make the payment from a Money Gram office as a receiver using cash like is stated in the invoice. I know that because I received also a copy of the invoice and I've read it. After the payment is done you have to reply from the invoice e-mail and send the info from the Money Gram receipt to eBay and also fax a scanned copy at eBay at the fax number from the invoice. After the payment confirmation will be received by eBay they will notify me to begin the shipping. Your funds will remain at eBay until you get the car and also test it for 10 days. After 10 days test period you have to notify eBay to release me the funds or to return your money back if the car is not like I described but will be not a case because the car is in perfect condition.

I thought "Wow! This will solve our problem with getting the car back to Nevada for my parents! I need to let dad know. Then as I was rereading the email I noticed some odd things like "Shipping is included in the final price..." and I thought wait...cars ship for only $400? That doesn't seem right... Unless it's 2600 for the car and then another 2300 for shipping. And then I read it again and no...apparently I found a $1900 car for my dad. Weird.

While I was waiting on the return email I grew bored and curious and decided to see if I could get a Carfax report on the vin# that I was given. I also was wondering if I could locate the DAS that they were talking about in MA and get a phone number to see if I could find out what their refund policy was. It seemed unusual for a business not to refund a service that wasn't used.

Using Google I found a phone number for DAS MA and learned that it was after hours and that the soonest I'd get a "live" person to talk to would have been Tuesday. So I moved on to the VIN#.

The VIN# alone resulted in many hits, some of them being other car listing locations and many of them said that the car had been sold. Using Google's archive feature I was able to see that yes this was the same style of car as I was looking for, however the mileage is different, as is the color of the body of the car. This car is GREEN...all the photos I was shown were for a silver car.

Further investigation resulted in the TRUE location of the car. It's on a car lot in Massachusettes, it's green, and it's here:

So that's how they're getting their VIN#'s for the styles of cars that they're trying to rip folks off with. They just visit the dealership websites and yank VIN#'s and then list them false.

So I decided to do a Google search for the email address for the 'person' I had been communicating with. And found this website with their email address listed on page 14. There were other scam reports on other email addresses, there might be similar email addresses listed there as there is here. Here's the link for the other reports that I had found:

Wait...now it's a deposit? And I'm not buying the car with that money? Um...this is sounding more and more like the descriptions of the other scam websites and I called my dad and told him what was going on. We're definately not going through with this transaction.

I emailed Craigslist about this, listed all the evidence. Hopefully they pull the ad as well as closing the account with the associated email. Not that it's gonna stop this person from making another account. After that I sat down and took screenshots of everything, cropped them for size and then posted them on Photobucket so that I could post my experience here for others to be aware of this jerk.

After that I'm not sure what else to do to help expose this guy. I haven't emailed them back to let them know that I'm not interested. I could just string them along but I honestly haven't any experience with EBay. I only hope that this person gets caught.

Cutter I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to list all of the email addys used by this person. If I hadn't found it, I wouldn't have thought that it was as bad as it was. I can only hope that they get busted.

Here are my thoughts on this BS:

1) I've come to the conclusion that Craigslist doesn't care. They say report anything to your local police. However, your local police can't do anything because this is international fraud. This is simply passing the buck and taking zero responsibility for their own web site.

2) Even if you go to the FBI, they apparently can't do anything because this is international fraud. Don't ask me why, this is just what I've found via research. I don't understand it either. It may be a matter of resources and priority.

3) News agencies don't care because Craigslist puts their "warnings" on the website. I've contacted all the big newpapers and news stations in the northeast. They all say it's been covered and it's a non-story. My problem with the "warnings" is that they blend in too much and should be BIG, BOLD and RED on every single page. But, again, Craigslist doesn't seem to care.

4) When two women were killed in New England via the Craigslist "Erotic" section (which everyone including Craigslist knows was code for prostitution) Craigslist said it was the publics' responsibility to monitor the site. My problem with that argument is that people who are looking for prostitutes aren't going to flag the ads! So, who's going to flag the ads?


5) Craigslist could make some very simple changes (not unlike the new "Adult" section which is STILL code for prostitution), but they won't do it. It appeared that they might be working with me, but Craigslist just doesn't care. I've offered my recommendations, but they have been ignored.


So, if this is all we can do to try to help each other, then let's keep doing it. If we can stop this BS, let's stop it. If you know anyone in the press or on TV, push this on them. I'm sorry, but this is FAR BIGGER THAN EVERYONE THINKS!!! It's NATIONWIDE, EVERY DAY, for years. They must be making hundreds of thousands of dollars off U.S. citizens.

There is another way to deal with these scammers.
Since Law Enforcement seems to be impotent and both craigslist and eBay seem unable to protect their customers the only strategy left is for the people to take matters into our own hands.  We can bombard the scammer with emails asking every stupid question that comes to mind.  The idea is to make them waste their time and resources dealing with you.  For example ask them:
•    Will they drop the price? (they will)
•    Can you put 50% down and will they carry the rest on payments.
•    Can you see more photos?
•    Will they paint the car a different color?

If only 1 of (for example) 50 emails that they receive is a legitimate “fish” then it will become less lucrative for the scammers to keep at it.  I also suggest that people keep posting (scammer) email addresses here and anywhere else it can get in front of lots of eyes.   If you‘re going to communicate with a scammer this site has lots of tips for doing it in a relative safe manner:  http://www.419baiter.com/

I’ve decided to fight them.  I’ve developed ways to track them and to obtain information about their Operating Systems and browsers.  Once I know that - If I can get them to go outside their script – I can do more than just track them.

Was just going to say that I was almost ripped off by the ochonc2@aol.com with a 2007 Chevy Silverado truck for 4,950. I was so excited when I found it I thought this will be perfect for my sons first pick up. Well, as I kept gettin emails from her or him they are probably lying about there gender too, I realized they were makin stuff up like having to move out of the country and all this crap. Then they sent me a fake vin number.

I was just trying to buy a 2003 range rover from him..he listed on craigslist in buffalo ny..then told me it was in great falls montana..that he was going to Afghanistan and had to sell right away.. wanted me to send him a moneygram...CASH...I was like i don't know about this... wanted to go thru the ebay safe harbor dept....i called ebay and they said it was total fraud ... "ebay" supposedly sent me a invoice for the vehicle..but ebay said they do not do that. wanted me to send it to a third party...some guy in Las Vegas...i just happened to google him and found this...thank god i didn't send the money...

I already paid the fees at eBay is not this the problem.I cant receive payment in Afghanistan using paypal thats why ive made a trust account whit eBay and also they will keep the payment until the vehicle is delivered inspected and approved by you.You have to send payment to the eBay agent not to me.If you need more answears ask them and also i will ask them to contact you regarding this issue

I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want.
