This is NOT ebay!!!!!!!!!  I just got a call from someone at this number. She claimed she was with ebay in Utah. She said someone wanted to buy a few items from my store on behalf of someone and wanted them shipped overnight. This is NOT ebay policy to have an employee call on behalf of someone else. I asked for details about the company, the person, etc. She had no answer. She sounded clueless and even giggled a bit. I asked for a supervisor. Was put on hold until I finally hung up.

To all you who claim this is a REAL number... IT IS A FAKE SCAMMER. They hacked ebay's computers and got our personal registration information. They use FAKE CALLER ID to hide their real information.

this is a legitimate phone call from Ebay that different sellers will get throughout the year depending on what the issue they are calling about. Different updates and upgrades apply to different types of sellers so that is why some people get them and some people don't. Most of the time it's just making sellers aware of different promotions going on or upgrades to services, etc. I am a top seller on Ebay and I get these calls several times throughout the year for issues that apply to my particular store and settings. It is legit.

They called me and I missed it so they left a message. The guy said he was from ebay and just calling to let me know about seller changes coming up in the fall. I receive a call from eBay about every quarter with updates and thanking me for being a powerseller on ebay. They didn't act like a fraud or ask for any info.

No doubt scammers are faking their number to show a legitimate eBay number.
There are ways to have the caller ID show a different number than what you are calling from.

This IS a real eBay number, but it is possible a scammer is faking the ID to get info.
So answer, but be careful and never give out your password, account or credit card info.

I just recieved a call from this number a couple of minutes ago and I picked up. The voice was crackly enough that I couldn't even understand who it was or what they were calling about (it sounded like they were disguising their voice) so I hung up and searched the number more out of curiosity than anything. What makes me really skeptical is that I am using my dad's ebay account and I never gave paypal or ebay my phone number, they only have my dad's, so I have reason to believe that this is fraud.

This CAN be a legitimate call. I have a buyer protection case open, and that is what this was about. I didn't pick up, because I didn't recognize the number, but they left a voicemail and it was about my case.

here is what I have sent to spoof@eBay.com
    Hello
I might need to alert you to a potential scam saying it originates from eBay, but if I am mistaken then please help me clear that up.
I received a phone call at 9:50 Eastern from this number: 1-801-545-1800 and had an extremely awkward conversation with a person with a very rough, messed up voice.  It sounded like they had a horrible case of laryngitis and should not have been at work.  The usual problem with marketeering or technical calls is some sort of accent, but I can usually work through those pretty easily.  However, this person had virtually no foreign accent just some sort of throat condition that I would almost guess is fatal.  They read from a specific statement and did so very rapidly which complicated things, so I tried again and again to get them to answer questions about the parts that I just was not hearing.  Unfortunately they did not answer my questions preferring to just read the whole statement or part of statement, again rapidly.  That is to say, when, after numerous repetitions, I could understand all but one or two words they would not repeat just the one or two words, they would restate the entire segment, rapidly and muddle things up further.
I have done some scam checking and there are an equal number of respondents saying that this is a scam call and reporting that it is truly from eBay's research.  In the event that it was a phishing event I answered nothing that labelled my personal information or damaged me.  If it should turn out that this was a legitimate eBay call, I really think someone should run down to that employee with a lozenge as though this is a life or death emergency.  I did a few times ask if there was someone else there that could read the statement, but they repeatedly did not send someone else to the phone preferring to befuddle me with their voice further.  That last was like my final piece of evidence that this might be a scam since most eBay callers work in a room filled, verily covered with callers.  From then up I was mostly listening to try to hear things to report here.  It seemed they wanted to simply verify that I was the main user of the account and since I could not hear the caller and they could not authorize a call back they left it at saying that they'd send out an email.
    Thanks.

    "Huuuh?" you say...
Well these reporting numbers pages are starting to look remarkably similar.  Similar enough that they could be all from the same person...

Got a call this morning but was sleeping they left a voice message saying they were from eBay.
They just wanted to let me know about the new seller features on eBay like 80 character limit and more seller protection etc.
Call was legit as I've had a call at least every 3 months from this number and its always eBay contacting me about updates.

Got a call from this number saying they were EBAY. I told her I wasn't interested and she kept being pushy so I hang up. Went online to EBAY and checked my Notification Preferences to make sure I was still on do not call status. I do not think EBAY would break it's own policies so I figure this was a scammer calling.

And also where a lot of pfishers are.  Everyone...take Ebay's advise that they themselves post online.  We won't ask for passwords, etc.  Same w/pretty much every other reputable company.  They don't call and ask you for things that they already have, and don't need.

Report a phone call from 801-545-1800:

The company that called you.
