The guy's voice said it was from eBay.  Left a message repeating new seller rules that are listed on eBay website.  No personal info was asked, nor for calling them back.  I just listened and deleted the message.

This is eBay. I didn't answer the number, because I never answer numbers that aren't in my contacts. They left a message saying that I had a buyer open a claim against me… Now how would anyone else but eBay know this, besides the buyer? This is real. Not a scam.

I received a text that I will describe word for word. "You have a new voicemail from (801)545-1800. Preview:Let you know that there is a problem with yellow. Thank you for your business on ebay. You have an important message. Yeah, I have your buyers have contacted us to let us know that there is a problem with the recent transactions please log on to eBay people details and take action. We appreciate your prompt attention to this matter, and wish you success in your future. Celine activities on ebay."
    I received it at 4:46pm on August 5, 2011.
This is exactly what what texted!! It not only makes no sense, the people either are illiterate or cannot speak English! How did they get my cell number??? They messaged me to say I have a VOICEMAIL? If they would have CALLED, they could have left a voicemail. I'm calling major BS on this and this is HIGHLY ILLEGAL!!!

I am selling on Ebay since 1998 and I'm a Power Seller.
Ebay regularly calls me with updates, they just inform me of a new features but never ask about any personal info. What is the purpose for scamming? Scamming is to get some personal info to use later in some kind of fraud.
    You people are paranoid......

This is a legitimate call from EBAY. They use this call center to make sure sellers are aware of upcoming updates, conferences, changes, etc among other things. This is not a scam, they ask for no information from you.

Another eBay Power Seller who also gets calls from this number about once a quarter.  They never ask for any account details, simply offering suggestions on how to grow my business or giving a heads up about fee updates or new features.

This is eBay's call center. I get calls from them from time to time. They wanted feedback, not private information. They call their sellers to make sure all is well. This is not a scam.

THIS IS A REAL EBAY NUMBER!!!

Ok... calm down people. I am a 12 year eBay employee in the Customer Service department that is located in Salt Lake City, UT. Google this - you'll be able to verify that indeed, eBay's customer service is located here. (173 W. Election Rd., Draper, UT 84020 is the actual street address) 801 is a Utah area code and 801-545-1800 is the number that will appear on your caller ID if an eBay employee calls you from our offices. We have about 1200 employees located here and we make outbound calls for a variety of reasons from promotional calls to security and verification calls.

We all have individual extensions, but we don't give them out or else we'd be bombarded with unwanted calls. Some employees who work the inbound calls area cannot accept inbound calls to their extension directly, but a lot of us who make outbound calls can. It's company policy that we are allowed to "lie" and state that we cannot take inbound, but that's not always true. I can receive inbound calls to my extension, I just don't want to.

I work in the fraud department and I make outbound calls all day. It's frustrating when I can't get a member to believe that I'm actually an eBay employee and often times if they refuse to speak to me or won't verify their information then I'm am required or forced to end listings, cancel bids, or suspended their account while changing their passwords and secret questions. It's a huge headache when the member has to get all this fixed.

There is nothing wrong with being cautious - I preach it all day long, but fraudlent calls usually won't be from an American phone number with an American speaking person who can answer many questions about your account and will never ever ask for your credit card information or passwords. I don't need your password to get into your account! I can see everything you can see on your account!

I've been working at the Call center in DRaper Utah since 6/1999 when it opened. Google it. OUr address is 173 W. Election Rd., Draper, UT 84020. Put that address in Google Maps and our building is the big one on the corner of Election Rd and Lone Peak Highway. If you do street view you can see the eBay logo on the building too.

Regardless of your preferences, we often need to make calls that are related to security and are not promotional type calls.

I am a 12 year eBay employee located in salt lake city, ut. Our address is 173 W. Election Rd., Draper, UT 84020. Google map it and you'll see the big building on the corner of Election Rd and Lone Peak highway has the eBay logo on it.

I have to call members all day and talk to them about security matters - usually when their account is compromised and yes, I do need to have you verify your name and the listings, but I will never ever ask for credit card info or passwords. I don't need to, I can see everything in your account that you can!

You need to do a bit more research. This IS a real eBay number. I've worked for eBay for 12 years in Salt Lake City, UT. Our address is 173 W. Election Rd., Draper, UT 84020. Google map it and you'll even see the eBay logo on the building.

801-545-1800 is the number you'll see whenever someone in the Salt Lake office's calls you. I work in the fraud department and I am required to call members all day to verify their name and the listings. HOwever, I will never ever ask for your credit card informaiton or passwords. I dont' need them, I can see everything you can.

If in doubt, ask the employee to verify old information on your account or to go and see the messages in your member to member section... however, we do contract out some of our promotional calls to local call centers and they won't have access to this - but then again, their calls are promoting something and not about verifying anything on your account.

I for one don't cower in fear but I stopped answering my phone years ago unless the Caller ID displays someone I know.

Despite the fairly useless DO NOT CALL LIST, they just keep right on calling.

Wrong, as a power seller ebay calls quite often to announce new feature to help with sales.
