- tjo| 4 repliesleft a message claiming to be calling from Stats Canada doing survey about PPE. Wanted me to call back and quote a reference number. I highly doubt that this is legitimate. They are calling my business number. I deleted the message and won't be calling them back.
- OgpalaThis is Statistic Canada. I thought it was a scam call at first.
I received and returned the call yesterday and it connected me to the person responsible. I told her that I would send the energy usage and environmental survey today. She said no problem and she would left a message so whoever wanted to talk to me will know.- Caller: Statistic Canada
- Call type: Survey
- Willie D| 8 repliesStatistics Canada called. They are the statistical agency for the federal government of Canada. Same people responsible for CENSUS. They apparently collect data for other surveys like unemployment rates etc. The person i was speaking with gave me a badge #. Very easy to confirm who they are, the 1-833# shows up on the official government website along with all their offices across Canada. The website even explains why sometimes # shows up as USA or Unknown.

- Tygerkat replies to Willie D| 7 repliesDo you often look up known phone numbers?
- Willie D replies to Tygerkat| 5 repliesI mean, if there is any doubt, why wouldn't you look up a phone number. There are tons of calls i get (mostly bots) but is till look up the number to see where they are calling from, if they have a record or not.
- BigA replies to Willie D| 4 repliesYou are trying to defend your decision to look up a phone number after you had talked to them and decided that the call was legitimate? What possible purpose would there be in that? Do you also look up calls from people you know just to be sure it was them on the phone? If so, I would suggest that you see a mental health professional. In the meantime, the only people who look up phone numbers when they know who called and why are the scammers that come here trying to convince people that the call is legitimate.
- cat| 1 replyWhy would Stats Canada call me? Why would they not write a letter?
- Caller: ?statscanada
- Dale replies to BigA| 1 replyLegit call from Statistics Canada. I thought it was a scam and searched the phone number and eventually arrived here. Then I remember I got a letter from them and it lists this phone number.

- Melissa| 1 replyFemale with a heavy Indian accent left a message at 9:53PM claiming to be calling from Stats Canada. The call was so late in the evening that it immediately raised a red flag. The voicemail I listened to had a reference number but, I wasn't able to catch the the number because the message was not clear. The caller wanted me to call back with the reference number provided but, it's so blatantly obvious that it's spam so, I won't be calling them back. In addition, red flag #2: Stats Canada toll-free number is actually: 1-800-263-1136.
- Caller: "Stats Canada"
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- Julie B replies to tjo| 1 replyIt is legit, that is the stats Can number.
- TheRealSeriouslyⓇ replies to Julie BMeans nothing. Legit numbers can be spoofed. You're a fool if you believe otherwise
- Marissa replies to BigAPoint to where in the post the person stated they already confirmed legitimacy both during the call & then a 2nd time after they confirmed legitimate? From the looks of the message seems like someone called the sir, provided them a badge # & a website/ph# to refer to & from there he confirmed that the call was not a scam
Fail to see where the logic "if there is any doubt, why wouldn't you look up a phone number" is flawed?
"Do you also look up calls from people you know just to be sure it was them on the phone?" IF the sir already knows who they are ie friends or family why would they search them up?
It is almost like ANYONE can claim they are calling from Statistics Canada & you should inquiry for ways to verify them if you are concerned of a scam & refer to the helplines on their website
If these are in reference to Tygerkat responding with "Do you often look up known phone numbers?" I can only assume Mr Willie likely looked up alternative sites while trying to confirm & posted that the # is indeed not a scam so others will know? - Prima R.| 1 replyThis is an AUTHENTIC LEGITIMATE number! It can be found at www.statcan.gc.ca/CCHS. Yes, we all get a lot of spam calls these days and most are foreign scammers. However, this number actually is Statistics Canada. I received in the mail, a "Canadian Community Health Survey" from Statistics Canada. (OCT/20) Included inside was a householder/occupant 'self addressed envelope'. YES, IT HAD MY ADDRESS PRINTED ON IT! The contact us toll-free number is 1-833-977-8287. I can't unfortunately upload a picture, because this forum does not allow attachments. I have since received a call from this same number. The questions they asked me related to:
1) Access to local health care services.
2) Lifestyle choices affecting health.
3) Chronic health conditions.
NOTHING THAT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIES ME, JUST MY HOUSEHOLD.
****** It really irritates me when idiots do not provide helpful FACTS to share with others, but rather, without doing their homework first, just their GUESS and BLAH BLAH BLAH!*****- Caller: Statistics Canada

- John| 4 repliesI received a call from this number, but Stats Can did not show up as the caller ID. The person calling said they were from Stats Can and wanted to confirm some details (phone number and address) before proceeding with a survey. I declined and hung up. It could be that it is legitimate, but there are too many scams, and I don't have time to confirm who is calling. If it is legit, they need to find a better way to collect data.

- TI replies to John| 3 repliesWhen she said 30 minutes for the questions, I said will you pay me for my time? ANS: NO. In this world where we are getting tracked constantly, they want to know about your internet usage??
- annonI dont answer such calls on my cell device. they called a week ago for someone that dont live here. and they left no message.

- SarahSpam, phone number spoofed computer call, not land-line call, identified by robocall app. Do not give them personal information. Do not read those comments as they are ill informed about identity theft.
