There is nothing "funny" about this. These are hardcore criminals attempting to extort money for nonexistent debts. And--and as previous poster has already stated, they may have extracted your information from a database, which was probably stolen and sold on the internet black market.

This is (one of many) criminal extortion scams that have been going on for years. Many are operating overseas and out of the reach of US law enforcement, while others are operating within the confines of prison cells here in the US, using contraband cell phones. Others are using VOIP. Either way, they are able to disguise their identities and locations, making them next to impossible to prosecute. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting victims' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

You are so very right!  There NOTHING funny at all about this.   IMPORTANT claim my butt!   Have lost many nights of sleep over it, been humiliated trying to explain to people who think you are in some kind of trouble.   They try to trick you into thinking they have some claim against you, ask for your social, or to verify information.  But they will NOT give you any.  Like their name, or a real call back number (the number the call from goes to busy signal or errors when you call it)  When you ask them to stop calling, they say THEY WILL NOT ever.  Told them I have already reported and will continue to report them to authorities (FCC, FTC)  They say "report to whoever you feel like, it won't stop the calls"   Definitely foreign, they can hardly speak english.   Today, I told them if it did not cease that I would be recording them, they quickly hung up.   I would block them, but I want them to stop calling other people.  IS there a way?    I have reported them to FCC and FTC

Just also read above!   They will ask for more info (your social security number, date of birth, mother's maiden name, etc.), anything that will assist with adding to the database and sell it.  They may even have a bit of information about you, they have obtained, likely by trickery.   They told me they would call my "good references" and listed off family members that I would not use for a reference, nothing personal about them but it would be out of the norm to use any they listed.  I did not realize all this stuff really exists.  They are selling names and information.  Unreal.  Trickery at it meanest.

This is a automated call that says I have a claim which I know I don't. If you try to call to talk to someone you can't get through.

Okay, this one seems to push it to a different level.  I have a call blocker on my cell phone, a really great app called True Caller, which uses user-reported numbers to create a spam database of calls that can be automatically rejected by the app.  However, about a week and a half ago I started getting calls from this number.  The first time I marked it as spam, and then something weird began happening.  Sometimes when they'd call, it would be blocked, then sometimes it would go through.  I've been emailing True Caller's customer support, and I think I know what's going on: the caller ID lists it as "Multiple OCN," which seems to mean either "originally called number" or "originating company number" which has something to do with VOIP.  In any case, the scammers seem to have found a way to spoof the main number and hide the actual calling number. Which means, every time they call me from a unique number, my blocker won't see it as such until I manually block it later, even though it appears to be the same number. <Sigh> - point to scammers on this one.

They just called me and she got abusive. Threatening to take me to court. I had a payday loan like in 2001 but became sickly with a non curable med condition and forgot all about it. So they called out of the blue today.  She got abusive and when I told her I can't work she said I guess we will see u in court. I have a non cureable med condition I said and she said u can't have kids and if u do that's setting a fine example for my kids. I am highly pissed off

Shame on these scammers replies to Boykin
This is an overseas scam.  Just like email scams, except they try to trick folks into sending money.  The shame is, seems like once they have your information they will not stop calling.  You can block them.    Please stop harassing me, my family, my work!

I work as a manager of an apartment complex and this number has been calling at least 4-8 times a day for the past 2 weeks! This is a place of business. NO ONE here with the name they are calling about. The case #3261248. I have attempted to press "0" to speak to someone. I finally got  a person to answer today but when I started to tell them to NOT CALL HERE AGAIN and the lady hung up on me! I tried to call back but it rang and rang and rang with no answer. How would we go about STOPPING this!!??

Let them know the next time they call they are calling on a recorded line and you and your employer intend to have them traced and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

    Phishers! replies to angela
Once you engage, talk to them or call them back they will continue to call.  They are phishing, just like email scams except at their worst, they are calling people trying to shame them or family members into sending them money by wire or immediate ways.  I will call your mother, I will continue to call your boss, etc.  Once they have a family members name, they will start calling you back asking for them.   DO NOT tell them your name, any of YOUR or anyone you know information, as they are phishing to sell your information to the next spammer!  They will not tell you who they are...or will rattle a name, but no address.   Their call back numbers are not real.  DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM.  It is hard to ignore and block them, but you have to....otherwise they will keep calling.

Since my last post o have answered two of these calls in order to play their game with them.  Both times, the representatives became so frustrated with me that they hung up on me. This is a hoax. Do not fall for their tactics and do not confirm your ssn with them.
