They seem to have a habit of threating thing that they are not able to accomplish let alone being illegal.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I took this first call pretty serious.   As I have had a rough few last years and my credit is in the toilet.   I was wondering how I missed something from way back in 2008.   I mean it would have caught up with me by now I thought.   The first person to call was a female named Christy.   She was actually nice.   There certainly was no way I could pay this debt in full right away and really was wondering if there was a deposition file for litigation or civil or criminal penalties coming against me.   Kinda scary.    I did ask if I could set up payments.   Thinking in my mind this could be a way to get more information on them.    But I also was just driving somewhere and needed to call her back in the morning.  Which I did.   She did give me some information I was asking "them" for.    My mistake was giving my email address.   But maybe not!!!!    They wanted me to follow the instructions on the email and pay via "google wallet", which really seemed like a scam.   So I am scratching my head.   If they were ready to serve file civil or criminal charges, I gathered, at my place of employment or home.   They had a pretty old home address.   That was two States ago guys....  Then why would they now be willing to make payment arrangements?   Hum.....   So I did my homework.   Ran a credit report.   Called this card to find out the status which they said was paid off in 2009.  They are sending a letter stating so.    I did call back and left a message for Christy telling her this and maybe should not have given her my current address so that if they really had something for me they should send it.    So I am now worried and at work.    A message was then left by Mr. Matt Russel himself then.   Not a very professional man, and stating I needed to take care of this matter within the hour...   Well, I can't just carry my phone on me at work.   So on a 15 min. break called him when I got his rude message.   He was so rude and nasty.   And yes, hung up on me.  He even told me it wasn't his fault I moved... goodness.. poor guy.   Email for their Google Wallet is rolofundinginv@gmail.  MCG Legal Services and RFL Holdings.    Now if you were all legit.......   You certainly would not treat callers this way.   The wallet payment was sent on Friday and they canceled request today.   I looked in all of my old Counties court records for open cases on me.   Can't find anything for me.   Matt, you certainly have the scare tactics down....  But that just doesn't jive with people when you want something from them.   Calling us names and hanging up on us when you know you are in the wrong seems to be your thing.    God help you.   You need all the blessings he can give you.

"The wallet payment was sent on Friday and they canceled request today."  So even though you knew you had paid this card off and were getting a letter, you sent them the money anyway?

No, I did not send them any money.    I was in the process of doing research and they already sent me the email.   But I certainly did not send them money......

Not true. The fair debt collection law states that if you tell a debt collector you only want to be contacted by mail, they must stop calling you.

Got a voice mail as my number goes to google voice.  Same recorded threats as everyone describes.
It's a big scam from a not so bright person.
Thanks everyone for sharing as I am not calling anyone back and wasting time.  Just wanted to share for others to know this is false information.  This is not how a court system would operate if it was really a legal matter, you idiot !

That is still not a violation of the Do Not Call list.  It is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The two laws are distinct and govern two totally different aspects of telephone calls.  You cannot sue a debt collector under the TCPA (where the DNC is derived from) for calling after you request contact by mail only, you have to cite the FDCPA.

This is a junk debt collector.  He has purchased a very old, bad data filled list from a no longer existing credit card company, WamU.  WamU sold all of their cards to HSBC who then sold most to Capital One.  Even if you were in good standing with any of the aforementioned companies, this person (and I use this term loosely) will try to scare you into paying a debt you probably don't owe.  AND there is also the little item called statute of limitations-SOL for each state regarding credit card debt. In MD it is 3 years.  Do not talk to this person, if you do, do not give him any information. I have reported him to MD Attorney General for harassment and verbal abuse.

I got a call from Shae Moore from RFL Holdings. She was very pushy and told me I was going to catch a felony charge for some debt from 11 YEARS ago for the grand total of like $662.50. Not only was this matter cleared up years ago, but she called my parents house looking for me. During this call, she divulged to my mother the nature of her "buisiness" with me. If this was an ACTUAL accredited debt collector not only would they have up-to-date records, but they wouldn't dare reveal personal info to anyone but who they were looking for or why. She called me, we spoke, and she sent over the same Google Wallet request that was brought up in the prior post (which is a joke). It's clearly a scam. They didn't send along any further info about the case, no documents or anything (even after multiple requests). Who would fall for this!? Clearly upset, I replied to thier request with some advice to "go get a real job." The best part is I now have 42 emails back and forth that displays unprofessionalism and rudeness. In those emails I was told I was "broke" "my credit report was a joke" "I used the credit card without intending to pay" "to enjoy my 1-3 years in jail" and was referred to as "people like me who don't pay my bills." Long story short is: these people are a joke... Especially Shae Moore. Home girl couldn't even form a proper sentence. No worries... These people are idiots.

I called this company back with a phone recorder on. I asked if the call was being recorded and the guy said "No". I informed him that it is and he hung up. I called back and was informed that because I tried to record the first conversation he considers me a "Shady" person. When I reminded him that he called me, he let me know that now I will never know why.

Hilarious. I hope that nobody actually falls for this guys crap.

    Shady... HAHAHAHA! I'm SHADY!!!!

MCG Legal Services attempts to convince those they are calling that one of their clients are attempting to serve you with a  "deposition" but refuse to give further info unless you disclose your identity. They had the last 4 of my social and asked if that info was correct refused to confirm!
I researched the # to find out its a SCAM. 1-855-883-5652 is the incoming #. 3 of my family members received a call also from the same woman asking how to contact me. Then she actually called my #. Beware! The woman's alias was Christy Allen.

MCG also harassed 3 of my family members by calling their cell phones each time asking how to contact me. Then ironically they called my # but not because any of us gave it to them. They claim to have a deposition to serve me. They were in GA and I'm in LA. I looked up the # and what do you know...SCAMMERS

I got a call from the 855-883-5652. The women was named Christy Allen. She claimed that I had debt with Washington mutual and that i had 72 hours to clear it up or they will summon me to court of felony charges of fraud etc. at first I freaked out. Then did some research. They would not give me a license number or an attorney name. I also spoke to a women named Shae Moore who sounded a hell of a lot like the Christy piece of [***].
Anyhow, definitely a scam. She said she was with National Attorney Asociation. Also when I called the number back it was the MCG line. After I hung up on the women named Shae, she called me back and tried to tell me it was really her. And that she would transfer me back to Christy.
What a god damn joke. Bunch of low life pieces of [***]! Nice try! But I've contacted the BBB and also the police department . The number that "Shae" called me back on was a caller ID of Nevada lol
    Scum bags!

I just received a call from the same number Christy Allen 855- 883-5652 ex 1003 stating that I had a debt from 2002 with citi financial and had 72 hours to pay 1,600 I did further research with the better busniess and there was no record of the company. Also strang the info was long out dated if you receive a call from  Christy Allen report her to the police and the BBB she is a fraud. Also had mentioned my mother was a co person on my account who has passed away 9 years ago so it was fishy to me so I dug a little deeper.

Christy you almost got me!!!! Shame on you.
