Vultures like these buy zombie or phantom debt, for mere pennies
hoping that people who do not know their rights and will be scared
into giving them money, EVEN WHEN THEY DO NOT OWE anything or
when the vultures have no right to collect it because it is too old.
Harassment and fraud are not excluded in this process.
Check the case of George Lovelock, who missed a payment of only 11 cents,
and collectors aggressively tried to collect more than $4,000 from him.

Sadly VULTURES preying on common people is one of the fastest
growing businesses in our country today! - LisaGreat thing about the iPhone - you can block numbers :) - probably can on Andriods too - I'm just not sure how.
1.) Send call to Voicemail
2.) Google it to see what it is
3.) Block Contact
Cant wait until we can block whole area codes, or even better - only let calls in your phone's directory ring through - everything else goes to VM. Would be great to be able to use wildcards like Allow 212.4**.**** to call through.
Its not like they have the balls to actually LEAVE a voicemail, so its no big deal
sleazy bullying abusive slimeballs. - JH replies to Karen| 2 replies@Karen, what state do you live in? I ask because since moving to CA three years ago, being on the Do Not Call list has stopped meaning anything. I get pestering calls every day including from this number, despite being current on the DNC list. I'm wondering if it's simply not enforced in some states.
- Yoda1725 replies to JHI doubt Karen will be responding to a post that is over a year and half old. The DNC only applies to telemarketers, not Debt Collectors, and criminals. If you have no debt, then perhaps you can invest in a call blocking device. They can be purchased for under $50.
- BigA replies to JHIf you are getting calls from this number, then you neecd to send them a cease and desist letter by certified, return receipt US mail. Also have you done your part in reporting the offending callers to the FTC and to your State AG's Office? If not then you are enabling them to break the law:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office. - Anne A.After my son lost his job, his credit card company turned over his debt to these lovely people. They call you numerous times a day and harass you. We received a settlement offer and I paid his debt in full in advance of the deadline date. They are still continuing to bother us. I spoke with a woman on Saturday and asked her why they were still calling us after we had settled up the account. She promised to get the account corrected so that we would receive no further phone calls from them, however, we received another call again today. I called them back and asked them to get their records straightened out but the woman wouldn't talk to me. I think that we will need to hire an attorney in order to get them to back off.
