- MDI just received a call from this number. 855-234-1304 It was an automated call and told me it was in regards to a check that had been returned not paid from my bank. I proceeded to press 1 to get a person and it hung up on me. I then called the number and a man answered, but I forgot what he said his name was. I asked him who he was and what he wanted and he told me his name and then I asked what he wanted and he said I told you my name was so and so but you're being very evasive so why don't you just never mind and have a nice day. I will be recording and documenting everything I get from this number. PLEASE DO NOT give out your information.

- Gina replies to kayeThey are definitely a scam. I have no idea how they got my personal information (which is the scary part). Unfortunately I have reported them to everyone I can think if, but no luck stopping them. So I decided to bother them like they bother me. I posted their number to my facebook account and invited everyone to call them and clog up their lines. They hate it when I keep calling back.
- notdumbI got a Voice Mail from 855-234-1304 They said they had my name and SS# and to call them back. They said I owe them money from a payday loan I paid off over 5 yrs ago. and if I did not pay them 700 they were going to have the Sheriffs Dept come get me. Pay Day Loans are illegal in NC.

- Sick & TiredI just received a call from an "Unknown Caller." The number they gave as a claimant is 855-234-1304. The guy only identified himself as Howard Gates, no company name nothing. He started the message out giving his name and then saying since he has not received a cease and desist letter he will be out to my home tomorrow (12/04/13) at 4pm, I better be there to sign for the paperwork. This is so tiring. The number 855-234-1304 I have blocked on my phone so that is why they are calling in as unknown.

- MJGFolks, IT IS A SCAM!!! No one is coming to arrest you. You will not go to jail. You will not have your license or social security suspended. If you did NOT receive WRITTEN documentation of a debt, you have NOT been notified. As for coming to your home or job --don't bother making coffee for them They are probably, in some cases, outside the United states. If in doubt, contact your local court house (civil division). They can reassure you.

- La Toya Love| 3 repliesGot a voice message that someone would be out in 48 hours to have me signs some papers because they called several times and got no response. I called the number back and spoke with a gentleman who said I had the option to pay over 1600 dollars or got to court. Then he put me on hold and proposed an offer of 500 dollars 100 of which I had to give them a card number so they could take the money. I told them I didn't have a card number or bank account and he sais if I don't call back by noon tomorrow they will proceed....is this a scam?
- Alfalfa replies to La Toya LoveThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
