- Fran Horton| 4 repliesTold me it was a personal matter and that I was on a recorded line. Then he started asking me personal questions to verify my identity. I told him I’m not telling anyone that I don’t know anything. Then he said that he was collecting a debt and I owe money for a Gateway computer that he said I ordered and didn’t pay for. I ordered a Gateway for my son about 20 years ago, but I paid for it up front and didn’t finance it. Then he said my check bounced and I owe almost 600 dollars. I didn’t write a check for it and I told him that. Then he raised his voice and started talking ugly to me and calling me names that I am not going to repeat. He told me he would have the police come and pick me up and take me to jail and they are going to sue me. I don’t have the receipt showing that I paid that anymore because it was so long ago. If they are for real, I think that the judge will take my side. From what I can tell this is not even for real. The man sounded like he was from another country because he didn’t speak good English.

- Tygerkat replies to Fran HortonIf your check had bounced, you would have heard from the bank then, not from a debt collector 20 years later.
- Gunnar replies to Fran Horton| 1 reply"Fran", you know it's all BS. We know it's all BS. Do you really want to discuss this with me?
Skeff Ett Liv!
Gunnar - Jerri_S| 2 repliesNot only a scammer but a nasty pervert. What is for sure an Indian guy told me he was calling about a confidential matter and he was collecting for a debt. He wouldn't say what he was calling about unless I would verify my name and social. NO WAY! He claimed that I was being recorded, and if I didn't give him my info he was turning it all over to the cops. I told him go right ahead! Then, he started saying disgusting perverted things and I knew if was a scam then. I came here to report it, but I see there are already 12 pages.

- TXPsycho| 3 repliesThee scammer called here trying to tell me I owe money to Sprint and argued with me when I told him that I have never done business with Sprint in my life. I told him that he's not supposed to be calling people collecting on a Sunday anyway. He tried to argue that it wasn't Sunday. Idiot.

No laws that prevent it as long as they call you from 8 am to 9 pm your time.Quote:he's not supposed to be calling people collecting on a Sunday - FBLThe man said i have to pay him almost 500 for running up a charge account at some place I never have heard of. He said they sell plumbing fixtures. I never bought no plumbing fixtures before. He got rude to me and said they were coming after me because I refuse to pay my bills. He didn’t speak good english and he had a nasty mouth with me. I gave him one back. He better not call here anymore.

- Winton replies to LeceeCalling a second time within so many minutes gets a caller through most cell phone blocking. We need absolute impenetrable blocking for protection from scammers like this.
- Winton replies to Jerri_S| 1 replyYou were right not to give your social. That is what these bottom feeder collectors need to hang a collection on your credit report.
Just tell them MAIL you proof of the debt. Including the name of the original creditor. That is your right under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. - BigA replies to WintonAnother person giving advice when they don't have a clue. Now, by reading that law "Fair Credit Reporting Act" what do you get out of it? You did read it didn't you? Nope, don't think so because that act is all about Credit Reporting, not Debt Collection. Why it even says so in its name. In 90% of the cases they already have your SS# and they don't need it to hang anything onto your credit report. Debt validation must be made in writing under the correct law which would be the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
All of this and more was already posted several times in this thread as well. - StricklerAsked for husband will not tell me what the call is for days personal..
