At the same token there are those that spoof caller id information in an effort to try and pass themselves off as a legitimate business. That is why people should always call a number they are familiar with to verify the information.

The caller claimed to be with AT&T and was calling to see if I was satisfied with my service. He also called me on my cell phone not the phone number on my account although I have used my cell # for repairs. The call was very unorganized and unprofessional. Almost immediately I felt it was not AT&T calling. i spoke with the representative over a minute. No personal information was asked or given.

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION!

i got a call from 855-303-8333 claiming to be at&t u-verse customer support and they wanted to run a speed test for my internet service.

i am an at&t u-verse customer and my internet was working fine.

i told the piece of [***] 'rep' that i would run my speed app myself. while i was running it i could tell she was getting restless and wanted me to have them run some diagnostics.

i looked up the number on 800notes and quickly scanned through the notes and realized this was a scam.

i told her what i'd done and she had the balls to tell me she could provide me with her at&t employee id number and that she could transfer me to some other department for verification.

i said, 'this is a scam. goodbye.'

i called at&t and they said it was a scam and that upper management had been getting reports of disgruntled employees making these fraudulent calls such as this.

Nice try, but AT&T has the ability to check the status of any U-Verse system from their location and would be calling to let a customer know if there is an issue (or, as someone else noted, simply fix it)., NOT to randomly ask if everything is going ok.  AT&T usually only calls to sell you something and virus protection is the responsibility of the customer so no, these are not legit calls. I'm pretty darned sure if a customer is having issues with their services, they will be on the phone ASAP with the legit AT&T Customer Service to resolve.

If it's AT&T, they should know that I don't have U-Verse, and then they'd also know there is no point in asking me how I feel about my U-Verse.

This is not a spoof'd number. Call 855-303-8333 and if you have ATT&T like me, they can verify your account. This is a courtesy call to make sure your system is running good. They did not try to sell me anything or collect information.

I received one of their calls on my company cellphone, which annoyed me to no end.  The work phone is for work phones, and if you call me on my personal phone (and I don't recognize the number) you get blacklisted courtesy of an app on the phone.

Even if it's a legit call from AT&T, they should know better than to call people whose phone numbers are on the "Do Not Call" registry.

If these are legitimate calls from AT&T why don't they show as ATT on my caller ID?   If they are from some calling center why does ATT have to farm out
such services?  And in response to the wise guy answers from supposed ATT employees, would these farmed out calling centers be able to provide Tech Support or other Customer Services?  I would think not.  Speaking as a Telco Retiree.

855 is not a valid area code. I have gotten several calls from this number but have not answered them. Number on caller ID could be spoofed. Also scammer could be using data hacked from AT&T or some other phone company to get your name and number.

Seems legitimate, at least in my case. I just got a call from this number. The person said it's a courtesy call from AT&T and wanted to verify I'm satisfied with UVerse service. He wanted to verify my name. I gave him no information and told him I'd call AT&T myself. I called AT&T and talked to UVerse support. The tech looked up my account and saw that indeed there was an outound call from another department whose purpose is to verify customers are satisfied with their serviice (I hadn't told the tech this detail). So everything matched up and I'm satisfied it's legit.

Still, I think it's best to exercise caution when receiving a call and the person at the other end starts asking for information. I think AT&T needs to rethink this outreach strategy

I just got a such call. He asked me to turn my laptop on, ask for my 4 digits U-verse password. I think it was likely a fishing call.

And you post as anonymous?  If you work for the company then give your real name.  You are a scammer and unfortunately too many people fall for it.  Nothing is free and ATT doesn't offer services to clean up  viruses off your computer.  They offer cell phone service, internet, and TV.  You are an idiot!

LOL the person just barely spoke English, he wanted to assist me with paying my bill and was going to help me pay from my checking account. We pay AT&T on line and our bill is up to date. They do have a lot of information but they were not aware that the bill is under my wife's name and not mine. Seems like everyone is receiving a different kind of assistance from this same number.

I agree buddy. I have received calls from AT&T never to remove a virus from my computer which is not a service that they offer. The scammers are not only on my phone but also on 1-800 call notes. ;)
