- Not That StupidThis company called my DAUGHTER on her CELL PHONE. They have never contacted me. They called my kid, claiming I owed money and they wanted to serve me with papers, but no one was home. She lives out of state, 2000 miles from here. They left her an official sounding phone number and "case" number and wanted me to call back ASAP. Illegal as hell. I have never received anything from this company myself. No calls, no letters, no notices, no paperwork. They just called my kid to frighten and intimidate her. I reported these [***] to the Attorney General's office in my State, and to the Feds. I am tired of this kind of nonsense.

- Maine ResidentMessage left on home phone from "Morgan Williams" saying there has been a civil complaint filed against me. Also called my cell phone from a private number to set up a time to deliver papers. My husband called them back, they had my maden name and home address and wanted to verify last 4 of my social which he didn't give them. We checked out their website austindaltonandassociates.com. Even the web page looks fake. Definitely suspicious.

- wanda replies to Nancy| 2 repliesI received two messages from Austin, Dalton and Associates telling me that I signed a tolling agreement and that they could take me to court after the statue of limitations expired. When I asked for proof of debt, they said that they did not have to provide that information to me. I found out that they actually did have to provide the information to me by law. They told me two times that they sent information to me by mail, which they did not. They said that in one day they were filing a civil suit against me and if I paid I would not have to pay more in court. I panicked and paid by credit card, which is actually in my favor because now I filed a complaint against them with the FTC. I encourage all of you to do the same. My credit card company is also filing a complaint and I should get my money back. I have also contacted my state attorney's office and I am contacting the general attorney's office in California tomorrow. These people are pathetic vultures and they are not attorneys like they claim to be. Do not fall for their disgusting antics. I, too, spoke with a woman by the name of "Aubrey." They also use a company name of "First Quality." Of course they have an unidentified number when they call you. I typically do not answer those calls, but I was having a family emergency and answered all calls that were coming in to my house phone as well as my cell phone. They got me at a vulnerable time, so now I am filing a lawsuit against them. My advice to anyone who gets a call from them is to not talk to them, but do contact a legal authority.
- Luther Williams replies to wanda| 1 replyI'm not sure how paying them is in your favor. You are now considered an easy mark and your name will be sold as such. Also there is no such thing as a statue of limitations since statues are inanimate objects in museums or parks. However there is a Statute of Limitations and telling you that they are going to take you to court after it expires would be a huge lie since that could not legally be done. You might want to look into suing them since they have committed so many violations of federal and state collection laws. If more people sued these crooks would be out of business.
- RogerThey called my son-in law to say he owed over $10,000 for a 2004 Explorer he never owned....I got them to tell me who the original creditor was & they told me HSBC....The problem is my Daughter & Son In Law just bought a new home and this information wasn't on any credit report...They were willing to settle with me for $7040.00 dollars, I told him that was very nice of him to settle his scam for $3000.00 less and he started going crazy and wanted to know why I had to butt in to my son-in-laws business since he was a grown man, and then he hung up on me

- Bobby replies to JaxxhuddThere are lots of things that you can do. First you could send them a certified, return receipt letter to the address listed on their website. You could contact the postmaster there and ask for an actual address since the one on their website is a UPS store. You could also check the numerous threads here about that outfit to learn more (use the search box on this site and put that company name in). You can go to the FTC, CFPB, your State Attorney General and the California Attorney General's websites to file complaints and to learn more about debt collection. If you find them you can sue them.
- Wanda replies to Luther WilliamsI am suing them and I have reported them to the FTC as well as the office of the Attorney General in Pennsylvania and California. Their address is located at a UPS store where they have a mailbox, and the UPS office has been notified as well. I just wish that I would have thought this through and did my research before giving in to the pressure of being sued.

- Tracy ArizonaGot a call from a person who stated that he was calling about a “missed delivery,” and it’s regarding a “complaint filed in Maricopa County.” (Maricopa County is the County in which Phoenix, AZ is located). He then gave me a phone number to call and a “file number.” He said the number for me to call was “Austin, Dalton and Associates.” I immediately suspected a scam!! I told him that I could meet him or the “delivery person” right now, and I asked him where they were located. He said that the delivery person couldn’t deliver today because they were in “Phoenix.” I said that I could still meet them; but, he said that I needed to call the number and “reschedule.” I then hung up and Google searched Austin, Dalton and Associates, and found that there is a litany of complaints against these scammers. It appears that Austin, Dalton and Associates is simply a Collection Agency who buys up large blocks of VERY OLD collection accounts at pennies on the dollar, and then tries to scare people into “re-opening the old debt by sending in a payment.” DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM! A collection account older than 7 years old (check your state’s statutes of limitations) is past the statute of limitations, and a collection agency CANNOT sue you for the debt; but, if you send them a payment, either unwittingly or intentionally (or because these scammers scared you into sending them a payment) you will re-open the old debt and re-start the 7 year window in which they will then be able sue you for the debt. DON’T FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!
