- C.M.| 4 repliesThis number and a local to Memphis number has called me 4 times this week ,my ex wife 3 times . Asked for my address, and to verify my social security number. Said they have paperwork for me to sign and today they left a message saying this was the final warning. Paperwork would be started in 12-24 hours and federal entities would be added and if I wanted to get advice call this number. My gf looked up the number and found this site. How do I get rid of these annoying crooks?

- BigA replies to C.M.| 3 repliesMake them understand that you know they are nothing more then very low intelligence, want-a-be crooks and you won't fall for their extortion scam. Tell them that if they really had papers they would not have to "start them". Tell them to go ahead and serve you so that your attorney can file a counter suit against them for FDCPA violations. Tell them that you are also going to report them to the following federal and state agencies:
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

You may have to do this several times because scum like this are very dense and have a hard time understanding even simple words. - Gunnar replies to BigA| 2 repliesUh-oh! You've either had a bad day or some of my attributes are rubbing off on you. Drink some Cognac & don't worry about it. Being ornery when it comes to Scammers is a good thing!
Gunnar - BigA replies to Gunnar| 1 replyI don't think I have ever had Cognac. Nowadays I wonder if I could actually afford it. Yep, just looked up some prices. Even the cheap stuff is out of my league. :)
- Gunnar replies to BigANonsense. My friend, Cognac does not have to be expensive. A good bottle of Cognac can be found in your budget. It's worth the expense. It slows you down. It makes you think. It reminds you of your worth & it reminds you of what you work so hard for.
Alska,

- Roni DSame here. I used to work for the federal government and I know their database, as well as Experion have been hacked sevreral times over the past few years. They are scammers from India/Pakistan, etc. I left them voicemail and replied via text with the most offensive things I could think of. This usually holds them off for a few months before the start the B.S. again. Last year they were calling me looking for my wife claiming they were from I.R.S. and they would have police at my door in 2 hours if I did not have her call back. This time they were calling her about me. LOL...I used to be an auditor for the I.R.S. and THEY WILL NEVER CALL YOU. You will get a letter to call THEM, and in that letter everything will be explained in detail about what you owe, why and your recourse if you disagree. They will NEVER call YOU...

- PatriciaI received a call from 855-616-1608 and so did my husband and about me. The calls came in at the same time. Mine went to voicemail and so did his. The voicemail wasn't clear, but it was threatening if I didn't call. There has been no documentation, and I think this is about the 50th time I have been threatened with being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.. I have yet to receive anything nor have I been hauled off. They use scare tactics.

- MarieCalled my cell and my home phone as well as my mil for a relative that doesn't live in my house and that mother in law isn't even related to. Messages stated they were a Asset Verification Services for a civil dispute, call immediately, legal documents, blah, blah, blah. I blocked their number and reported them to the FTC.

- P replies to H| 1 replyThey called and said they had my social security # should I be worried?
- MikeHuntleton replies to PMany scammers can get ahold of someone's SSN, but in many cases they don't know for a fact if the name they have with it is the real one or not, until they call and the call recipient confirms it is. Then they can go and perform Identity Theft scams.
