This call came to my office.....I did not pick the call my co-worker took the number with a request that I call them back. So I got on net searched number and found all the comments on this number.  I have no business with AMEX so I don't need to call them back. How they got my work number makes me wonder and how they know I work here?  Most likely they got it form some other bank and who knows.  TNX for all the postings on this number.

It's not AMEX.  They masquerade as AMEX.  They actually called themselves American Express Global Collections which is NOT at ALL ANY Part of American Express.  They bought your name and number off of list and that doesn't mean the list was even valid.  Their phone numbers, PO Boxes, employee names do not exist within American Express.   Be careful and stay away from them.   It's just a seedy scam outfit that make unearned and underserved money off of you.

Caller (with HEAVY Indian Accent) claims they are AMEX and then asks me to call a different phone number from the one they are calling from and it was urgent!  Well, I haven't had an AMEX card in 10 yrs.  So, I don't think it is very urgent.  I know that I closed my card along time ago with no balance.  And even if something was missed, after 10 years the statue of limitations would have run out -- SO SCAM !!!

This number is for a legit Outside Agent that works with American Express. They just want to help pay off any debt you have with American Express. Offers settlement on the spot, unless you are willing and financially able to pay off the "charge off" in full. Suggested I should pay in full since it'd look good on American Express' end.

If you have an outstanding debt with Amex, most likely they gave your account for an Outside Agency to handle. Keep in mind that your account is still under Amex, just handled with an outside agent. Be sure to contact Amex and get the number to the corresponding collections agency.

For future readers.  What this person is saying is that the account was placed with a third party debt collector.  Once that happens this debt collector must follow the letter of the law.  I doubt that paying the debt that way would "look good on American Express' end."

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

Missed calls

Got a call from this number and left a voice mail to call 877-443-0144 with a reference number.  When I called and gave them the reference number the scammers wanted my social security number and wanted to know if I was related to another person that is related to me and wanted their phone number as well.  When I told them to go f*ck themselves they said, "Sir this is a professional phone call, please be professional".

They claimed to be from American Express.
