- genna| 3 repliesReceived a voice mail from this number, they knew my name and my bank name. They stated that they wanted to verify changes to my account and possible fraudulent activity. I called my bank directly and they informed me this number is a scam.
- Caller: scam
- thomas| 11 repliesNot a scam. Wells Fargo account 'takeover' dept. Went into branch store after receiving calls. (they left VM saying as much - WF takeover dept, please call us back). Woman at branch store saw the case notes for my account and affirmed - this is the number in the notes. She called it while I sat there and we determined the cause for concern with my account.
Legit.- Caller: Wells Fargo
- Jay| 1 replyAdvised she was calling from Wells Fargo about my debit card.
Fraud .... reporting this issue. I called Wells Fargo while I was on the phone said they do not call people about these issues, they send an email about it to you. - brad| 2 replies100% a scam. They say Wells Fargo - but they are calling in Canada and I have never had a US bank account. They refused to provide their name - other than Wells Fargo. Any truly reputable company caller will always minimally provide their first name. When I called them out being fake - they got very rude and called me names. This is 100% not Wells Fargo and 100% a scam.
- Melinda| 1 replyI work for Wells Fargo. This number is part of the fraud department. If you get a call- answer it and talk to whoever it is or you may find all your accounts frozen to prevent further or potential fraud. If you don't feel comfortable... go to a branch and have a banker call with you. Don't ignore a call from this number.
- Caller: Wells Fargo days
- Melinda replies to bradIf you got a call from this number and you're never had an account with Wells Fargo... you may have been contacted because someone is using you're identity. Wells Fargo has innumerable research abilities and we will work to protect even those who are not our customers. The number is valid and is absolutely part of the fraud department for Wells Fargo.
- alexIt's not a scam, but they certainly are rude. There is a "Wells Fargo Bank Account Takeover" department that calls you to confirm certain details if they suspect fraud. HOWEVER, we've all heard our bankers tell us "never give out your account number when someone calls you directly," so why is it that this department calls us directly and asks us to confirm bank account and/or debit card numbers? I called the banker service on the phone and they confirmed 855-731-2017 really is a Wells Fargo Bank phone number.
The 'takeover' department goes against everything banks always tell us to do.- Caller: Wells Fargo Bank
- Robert replies to leeThis is Wells Fargo Fraud Department. This is a real phone number for the bank.
- S| 2 replies855-731-2017 called for Wells Fargo. I assummed it was a scam so I called them off of the card customer service number. They transferred me back to this dept to speak with Gary. Confirmed account email address changes/account hacked, so they changed the account number for us. When I lost the connection, he called me back on this number as well, so I would say it's not a scam. The changes he made on the phone on our account were reflected immediately as well.
- Caller: Wells Fargo
- Gunnar replies to S| 1 replySave it Scammer. 100% BS post!

That's it! END OF STORY !

Gunnar - Not Stupid| 3 repliesInternational criminal fraud. A person identifying herself as Adriana from Wells Fargo Bank left a voice mail and asked that I return her call at 855-731-2017 Option 1. This is an attempt to secure personal information to access bank accounts and wire transfer balances, as well as hijack your identity. How do I know? First tipoff: I don't have an account with Wells Fargo. Second tipoff: Adriana has a strong Canadian accent. Third tipoff: 855 is a non-geographic area code not used by Wells Fargo's fraud department. Fourth tipoff: Other consumers have reported this number as fraud originating in Canada.
- Caller: Criminal organization posing as Wells Fargo Bank employees
- TM replies to gennaNot scam legit number, my accounts had tried to be hacked and they called me with this number, coming in as unavailable I did not answer so they left message. It is a legit number.
- Nell replies to Not Stupidwhile away for christmas I received 2 calls from this number. I'm still unsure if it was legit. I called Wells Fargo several times and still didn't get any resolution. Went to the WF branch office....talked to the manager....still no luck. Called again when I couldn't get access to my online account. Finally they removed the fraud alert and I was able to access my account. I still don't know what it was all about, but couldn't see any problem with my account.. It took hours of my time. it is the number of the WF fraud department, but it still doesn't make sense. I'm ready to change banks.
- ctNot a call. This is a phony pop-up warning in hotmail with a warning to call these numbers 855-731-5544 also uses 855-982-2275. Scam uses more than one website to contact which I believe is phony. This is the message
"Serious security vulnerabilities have been found 3/15/2016@12.27.
Call (855-731-5544) (Press 1) for immediate assistance!" - Rindi replies to leeI fot this call on my phone and land line i knew it wa a scam ! They immediately asked for my account information how do you know id it is a scam my bank has never xakkwd me before ?
- PoindexterIt's not fraud. I just received a call from this number that went to voice mail. I called back per their request where they informed me that someone had called WF earlier that day with my social and asked what was the balance of my account. When Wells Fargo started asking them questions they hung up. That alerted them to call me. I reached out to Wells Fargo by calling the number on the back of my card to verify that Account Takeover had called me. They spoke with me after I used the account password I put on my account with takeover minutes prior. They also said the ID Theft department would follow up with me since someone has my SSN.

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD - SomeGuyThis is definitely Wells Fargo. They called both my cell and landline within a few minutes time. Called back and they were (like reported already) the fraud department. I had changed email and username and they wished to verify the information. In the interim, they had suspended my access to my online accounts. After speaking with them, my account access was back literally within ten minutes. BUT... as some people have stated, if you're not sure, call the number on the back of the card.
On another note, they did not ask me for any personal information when I called. I did identify myself and they asked me if I made the changes to my email and username. They also asked me how many accounts and the types of accounts I had with them. (did not ask for account numbers)- Caller: Wells Fargo
