This is clearly a scam, albeit, in some ways, a sophisticated one.  I received a very legitimate looking check without any documentation; it was made out to a city with my mailing address below the name.  The maker of the check is my name, and it is confusing at first; it feels like you are receiving a refund.  There is a phone number on the check (855-739-0856), and they clearly want you to call so they can try to get information out of you that they can use to scam you.  Everyone above is talking about a Bank of America processing center, yet the check I received says it is from Wells Fargo.  Don't fall for anyone trying to tell you this is legitimate.  I don't understand how people like that sleep at night.

Nothing you said makes any sense.  This check was made out to a city and had your signature on it?  Where does this "refund" come in?

Do NOT call this number. This is a fraudulent number. They want your checking account information so they can rip you off. I've been using a Wyndham Rewards credit card issued by Barclays for a few months. I have also used Bank of America checking for decades. After an 8 week trip during which I used the Wyndham/Barclays card almost exclusively, I received a very authentic looking check for $1100 check from "Bank of America, N.A." with my correct Wyndham/Barclays credit card number printed on it. However, though it was sent to my correct address, it was made out to "Wyndham Rewards." It included a note up top that said, "Please post this payment for our mutual customer." I had inadvertently made a payment to Barclays a couple of weeks earlier from a second Bank of America checking account I have, but with insufficient funds in it. So when I got this "check" in the mail, I thought the payment I made that bounced back and the $1100 check were somehow related. After an hour on the phone with Bank of America and Barclays, and checking my Wyndham Rewards account, we determined that the check is a complete FRAUD! If I had called the number on the check (855) 739-0856, I would have been SCAMMED! This number has nothing to do with Bank of America, Barclays, or Wyndham. Addendum: Out of curiosity, I just now used a landline to call the number to see what would happen. The "representative" said she was Charlotte from Georgia (B of A reps never offer where they're calling from). All she wanted was my checking account number and kept repeating that she needed it. When I refused, she sounded resigned to be talking with a customer she was just trying to help, but how could she help without my account number? She said she was transferring me over to a "supervisor." I hung up.

Agreed. The check looks very authentic. The bank "representative" who answers the phone sounds authentic. And very insistent on getting one's bank account number. They already had my correct credit card number printed on the check and my address. But the check was made out to the name of my credit card "Wyndham Rewards" issued by Barclays. Don't be fooled like I could have been had I not called Bank of America and inquired about the check. They had no record of it and said it was fraudulent.

BigA - David B never said his signature was on the check. I think YOU'RE part of the scam. He got a check from Wells Fargo (supposedly); I got one from Bank of America (supposedly). I called the bank. They did NOT issue the check.

You should really work on your reading comprehension. David clearly said "The maker of the check is my name".
Maybe you're part of the scam. That makes as much sense as your assumption BigA is.

My doctor's office called me to say they had received a check from me but that I didn't have any balance due. I told them I had not sent them a check. This was not a phone call. It is a scam! I received a Wells Fargo check made out to a business I utilize. It had the correct monthly amount and my account number. I realized it was a check FROM my account not To my account and called the business which assured me I owe nothing. Had I deposited it, I would have paid some scammer. This phone number was printed on the check with instructions to call if you have questions. Do not call it!!!! It isn’t Wells Fargo.

Since you are not the payee and since the check allegedly came from your account then you would have been able to deposit it.

Nobody called me. I Received 3 checks in one envelope without a letter for $400, $300, $95,000 from Payment Processing Center. Presorted first class mail US postage paid. The checks list this phone number and says "Please post this payment for our mutual customers" and it says Bank of America.
On the top left my name and address.
Two checks list "to the order of: Tmobile" with my address underneath. It says "Account: (with Account number)"

The third one for $95k lists my name and address but my first name is spelled wrong. It says "Account: Tmobile"

I've never seen this before! There's no way I owe $95k to bank of america nor tmobile and I'm sure neither one owes me that either!! How do they scam individuals with this??

Received 3 checks for 20 bucks each. It says Wells Fargo and when I call the number in the midnight it says “welcome to BofA” :) this is a scam
