Glad this post was here. It smelled like a scam, and I thought maybe not when I called the number and it answered with "Thanks for calling Comcast," but further conversation proved Bill, above, correct. Pushed to get a technician into my home. My modem was working fine. I told the Indian gal "I'll call Comcast directly." Which I did, and they confirmed they DON'T call to "test modems" unless I have initiated the service request. Also confirmed that IS NOT a Comcast number. Hope this helps somebody. He also said, "Did they ask 'if you can hear them'?" As we need to be aware several scammers are just trying to get a recording of our voices to say "Yes" to somehow use the consent in other fraudulent ways. However, it seemed the gal was more insistent in getting a tech into my home for who knows what reason. Can you say "Robbery?"

I got a call saying it was Comcast and wanted to run a connection check first they had me tighten the cables then I was put on hold for them you run a full diagnostic check....during that time I never lost wifi or internet they had my full address as well. They said the check went well and before they hung up I asked about getting hbo. When they transferred me They knew my whole cable package down to the exact premium networks I currently subscribe to and extra equipment I have on my bill. I'm going to call Comcast directly to find out more.

They called my girlfriend claiming to be Comcast. They wanted to run a diagnostic on her modem and then setup an appointment for a technician to come by. When she asked who submitted a service ticket for the supposed "issue" they would not tell her. She was not having any issues with her internet or TV. She ended up scheduling an appointment with them anyhow, believing it was comcast. It sounded very fishy to me so I called the number back and got to a recorded voice saying "Thanks for calling Comcast, please hold..." This was fishy to me because there were no prompts to select a department i.e. billing, tech issues, etc, it just went straight to hold. A person finally picked up and I told them I wanted to cancel the appointment and that I don't want anyone to come over ever. He eventually told me that he is not authorized to cancel appointments and that I would have to call 1-800-COMCAST to cancel the appointment. Obviously they are not comcast if they are telling me to call Comcast to cancel this appointment. I layed into the guy pretty hard at this point because it was obvios that he was a scammer. It's terrifying to think that they were going to send one of their guys over, what are their intentions? Robbery? I don't know, but they need to be shut down.

I also got same type of call, I could tell by the pause at beginning that it was a scam.  He also knew all my details.  I just set the phone aside to tie up the line so they couldn't hassle others, and eventually he (Indian again) had to hang up  How does Comcast allow scammers to get this information to begin with?  .

Similar story here. Got two calls from them so far. One yesterday, one just now. A computer voice leaves a message on my mailbox saying something about internet speed issues (which I don't have) and that I should call back to resolve the issue. I haven't called back. Sure the calls are annoying but what's really pissing me off is that someone obviously knows about my agreements with Comcast including my personal details. That's really not cool!

I got a phone call from this number at 12:40pm today. They left a message about my internet speed and wanted to set something up to test it. Sounded fishy and now I know it was.

Called by these guys twice today, Second time I answered, they asked by name. I said I wasn't home but was someone else, and who should I have him (me) ask for.  They hesitated.  I called back, the recording said it was Comcast, but didn't sound like the usual Comcast recording and had made up hours.  I hung up and they called again within 5 minutes and left another message.

I ignored a call from this number on my cell phone (where they left a voice mail) and they immediately called my home number.  My wife answered the call to the house and listened to a recording saying they were from Comcast and they needed to make an appointment to come in to our house and check our equipment.  It felt fishy (we own our own modem) so I googled the phone number and ended up here.

Based on the comments here, it is clear someone has access to the Comcast customer database and is using it to run some kind of scam.  Scary that they had my cell and home numbers.  Other here have said they knew detailed info about which premium channels they subscribe to.  I can't decide if it is more likely that Comcast was hacked and they didn't tell anyone or if they are selling our information to scammers on purpose.

Here is the text from the voice mail they left on my cell...

Got the same call, same heavy Indian accent and they knew my name, street address and that I just had a Comcast technician out the previous week for my business internet, but they said the problem was with my home internet.  I went ahead and let them schedule a technician for the following week, then called Comcast customer service at the phone number on my bill. They confirmed that the call was from them, said that they have trucks with drive around the neighborhood detecting Wi-Fi leakage and wanted to check my modem.  So the guy shows up but he's asking me what the problem is, I told him you called me!!  He ask if he can replace the splitter in the attic with one that has ac power which should impove my connection.  I let him install it but it reduced my internet download/upload speed by 75%.  I made him take it off and leave.  Once he removed it my speed went back to normal.  The entire experience was very odd, and if there is a scam involved I'm not sure what it was. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I received a call today from the same number and explaining about an issue with Internet speed at my home. I did schedule a visit for this saturday but to double check went back to my Xfinity portal and noticed that the schedule was updated and visible under my account.  So not sure at this point whether this is a scam or genuine as they seem to have even access to database to update the details of the scheduled visit. If this is a scam and they have managed to even get through the database then it is a serious threat...just wanted to share my experience too..

Got a call from a guy who said he's from Comcast and that our modem was identified as having issues. He asked me to do something about the modem...I said NO, I'm working at home today. Then, he said he will need to send a technician over and I hang up. He had this sense of "urgency" and I thought immediately it's a scam.

I had the same experience.  It seemed odd to me, so I return their call, talked to a guy with a heavy Indian accent, he supposedly ran diagnostics on my modem and said a technician would need to come out.  I set up the appointment although I was still suspicious.  I called today to cancel and the same guy answered, again not typical for a call center.  Thanks to everyone for your posts.  I will call the real Comcast to find out how these scammers got ahold of customer information.

"Hello, I'm calling in regards to your current equipment. Our network monitoring system has identified issues with your internet speed, and we'd like to spend a few minutes with you to resolve the issue. Please call 855-873-6941 if you need additional assistance. Thank you and have a great day." (They hired a U.S. voice for the robocall.) The number is a spoof. I was called a day earlier  by a live accented voice that resembled the Microsoft scam voice, this time, offering to fix my Comcast internet service.
