- Funny BunnyPlease, please everyone, let your elderly loved ones know about these type of scams. I have mentioned these before to my mother but she not knowing fell for one of these scams. Yep, it's Thanksgiving day and me and mom were just sitting at the table reading a newspaper so I took the call and put it on speaker phone for her to hear. Geek support yada, yada, about a virus scam. I played along just like any unsuspecting person would do. Asked various questions, what virus was it sending, how did he know, gave me the actual virus code 000Cfd7D062, Told me to turn on my computer, and find the command prompt and I asked lots of questions of what screens I need to see. Blah blah, more things for me to do and me well more questions to ask as I was supposedly dumb at this computer sort of thing and played the elderly card. Told me the virus number was internally and that I could not find the number on the outside of my computer. I wanted him to tell me that what model computer I had. Lots of dumb questions I asked, blah, blah, Oh my gosh, yes, I needed this fixed. I could almost hear "hooked a sucker" on the other end of the phone. Ha! Told me that he could help me with everything but I just needed to follow his instructions. Told me to go to the windows prompt and type R. I couldn't find it so he asked if I saw the windows picture on the lower left on my keyboard. I still couldn't find what he was asking for. I asked what the "R" would do and he said that he would be able to help me fix my computer. Well....mom had then heard enough and when I said "I don't think I want to do this" he immediately hung up.
So please inform your elderly people of these type of scams as it is just awful they these jerks take advantage of innocent people. And you know that do and such a shame! I'm so glad that mom could hear how convincing they could be. Just wish more people were aware.- Caller: Fake computer geek support
