- maxfunThese bottom-feeders started calling me a couple weeks ago. The caller ID showed they called three or four times within a 15-minute period each time. When they finally called while I was home, they informed me that I owed $56 and change to GE Capital from 2004 and it had been handed to them for collection. I did not then, nor do I now owe GE Capital for anything. When I said, "No, I don't owe that," the guy rudely responded with, "Don't call me a liar!" When I said to send me something in writing, he said they already had. I said send it again via certified mail and he rudely informed me that they would not spend any further money to collect a bad debt that I clearly owed them. I told him I would not be spoken to like that, send me something in the mail, and hung up.
The calls resumed the next day. Then a woman called and left a message saying it was for my dad's name. I called them back the next day and verified that they were looking for my father. They asked me if I knew how to contact him. I said, "Try heaven. He's been dead since 1994." The woman stuttered a bit as she said, "Clearly we have some bad information." I agreed and asked if there was any other reason they were calling me. She said no. I told her her employer had clearly been conned into buying a list of collection accounts that are NOT collectible. Too bad, so sad, bye-bye.
BTW, I've never had a Sprint account and my dad never owned a cell phone, so I don't know what they thought they were collecting for.
Don't let these jerks bully you. Get a mailing address for them and send a letter via certified mail stating your case -- especially if you don't owe them anything. Demand documentation of the supposed bad debt. Demand that communication be in writing. You do not have to talk to people who are rude. There are rules they must follow.
Too bad the poor schlubs making the calls can't find a better job -- like working at McDonalds or Wall-Mart!- Caller: RPM Collections

- maxfunBTW, this agency is in Bothell Washington and is actually called Receivables Perfromance Management (RPM). Their Web site (http://www.receivablesperformance.com) lists the same 800 number that we are all reporting, so it's definitely them.
If you are a bully in search of an outlet where you can get paid for being a jerk, they appear to have job openings. Their Web site makes them look like a very upstanding company. Their business practices prove them to be bottom-feeders.- Caller: RPM

This number keeps showing up on that phone, and they leave very crass, abrupt messages DEMANDING that I call them back. I know they're a collection agency that purchased an old phone bill of mine from five years ago (Thanks, AT&T, for billing me $200 for LOCAL CALLS! When I had a block on my line)

- cvh360My company phone number has received two calls in two days from this RPM company asking for someone who is not employed by my company. I just called to let them know that they probably have a wrong number, and the person I spoke to (Carlos) was pleasant enough and said that our company number would be removed from their database within 24 hours. Hopefully they will in fact keep our number off their list.

- joeThe best way to handle this case is to take them to court. May I just add as well make several complaints to the BBB, Consumers Affairs and the FCC as well and the Attorney General Office. You could start a law action on them... for harassment, mental distress and others. Make sure if you start a law action to write down the date and time they have called you. Press *57 for call trace that's proof......

- dumb replies to Angry as "H, E, Double Hockey Sticks"| 1 replyyou sent a text? hahhaah, you're an idiot.
im sure you will do anything. - Filing a ripoff report? replies to TALK TO ME...RoseHa, are you serious?
You guys are ridiculous. Filing a "report" does nothing.
Get proof of these items:
They called before 8am or after 9pm
You spoke with them for more than 3 times in a week and you did not request a call back
They called in excess, (10-12+ times a day)
They threatened legal action or any kind of threat that they will not actually do.
Don't contact the Attorney General, contact your lawyer and get prooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooof - DThey call my house and leave no message once or twice a week. I finally called them back today. They said they were looking for someone else with the same first initial and asked them to please take my number off the list... We'll see.

- SusanThey call for a person with the same name as my husband only with a different middle initial; they say that we have $400+ outstanding Sears bill. All I can figure is they looked up the name and pulled the number of the closest entry they found. We got scared about the idea of identity theift and looked up our credit reports and no surprises; we just don't answer the phone.

I am tired of this and it is time someone does something about it...
- RPM=REJECTS!| 2 repliesFirst off, debt collection agencies are NOT subject to Do Not Call laws. State or Federal. They are required (but normally don't) to obey the regulations contained in The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. This is administered by the Federal Trade Commission, www.ftc.gov .
When harassed by these clowns at RPM , first report them to the Better Business Bureau www.bbb.org Preferably use the zip code of RPM, 98021. Also, file a complaint with the BBB in your zip code. The BBB is toothless, however, they compile lists of complaints, resolved or otherwise, and the FTC can and does review them in the course of their investigation.
Then file a complaint with the FTC. Be concise. Accurate. Work on it for a day or two, don't simply fire off a hastily written complaint. You can do this on the FTC web site.
Then file a complaint with your State's Attorney General. Normally they have a Consumer Protection/Affairs Department that handles such complaints. The FTC will review these as well.
FTC complaints take a long time, perhaps two years to get action. It all depends on the number and accuracy of the complaints. Real violations of FDCPA must be demonstrated in your complaints.
In the mean time, review (via Google) FTC v. CAMCO. In this case the Feds stated "...80% of the money CAMCO collected came from consumers who never owed the original debt in the first place." That's right sports fans, EIGHTY PERCENT! Think about it. Ultimately, CAMCO got shut down by the Feds for violating the agreement they signed the previous year!
Above all, do NOT send RPM or any collection agency one thin dime. To do so is an admission of guilt, i.e. you owe the debt. Don't be stupid.
You can also seek legal advice. But most attorneys don't want such cases as the maximum recoverable under FDCPA is one thousand dollars. Chump change to most lawyers.
Those of you who complain about "no one on the phone when I pick up?" RPM uses an auto-dialer. You are in essence, talking to a computer....Don't do it. Don't give them ANY personal information. Again, don't be stupid. Don't cooperate in any manner with these slugs.
Document all calls. Date/time/number, etc.etc. Write out any messages they leave. If they are of a threatening nature? Call the law! File a complaint with your local PD as well as the PD in Bothell, WA where RPM is located. FIGHT people!- Caller: RPM
