- DJ| 1 replyRPM calls at least 5 times a day every day. I settled with them in April of 2008 and they have been calling me since June of 2008 to collect the part of the debt left after we settled. It makes no sense. They are down right abusive with there language towards mw. They are ignorant, arrogant, and ill-informed. They have threatened to call me 20 times a day. They always cal from a different number with the same area code and when you try to call it back you get nothing!

- NRDi get calls from them all the time at my work. they always ask for our accounts payable or accounting department but we are a small business, its owned by a family of four and i am their only other employee. most of the time they ask for the owners number and i lie and say i dont have it and i take a message. but once a guy didnt beleieve me, he was like "so you have no way to contact the owners, in case of emergency even" and i said "nope, no number at all" he said "what if there is a fire?" and i said "well i dont know i guess that means there is a fire" he was getting mad and i was just enjoying it and trying not to laugh. i eventually took his name and number down and he said he was from rpm. i always takje their number down and tell the owners but we always just trash it. now when i see the caller ID i dont even answer it.

- Living in 90's?| 1 replyIs there a statute of limitation for these collectors? They called my husband for a bill from 1995! Is this collectible?
- Call type: Debt collector
- DM replies to Living in 90's?Each state has it's own statute of limitations. Actually, that bill is over thirteen years old. In almost all of the states, it's no longer collectible. It's beyond the Statute of limitations. But you should still consult with an attorney who specializes in this type of issue. Here's a site with info: www.budhibbs.com
- getevenif everyone would call them back twice and hang up, annoy them. make sure you use *67 before dialing their number, so they don't caller id you.
- Chris replies to Blink BettyActually, consumers have the RIGHT to have the debt collectors verify the debt (and provide proof to you) that the debt is valid, and is still outstanding. Advise them, verbally and in writing (by certified, return receipt mail) to stop calling and to have all communications by mail. If they continue to call, advise them you are recording the call for possible legal action (if allowed by your state law), and note the time, date, who you spoke with, and what they said, then talk to an attorney or file a complaint with the attorney generals office of your state.
- Peter replies to LindaI have the same problem with them, I got the new phone number a mother ago, but they still call me an ask for .... and I told them, I don't know anyone with this name. I D I O D S!!!!!!!!!!!!
- SmokeStackRuffinI tried to make a payment after millions of calls...they didnt process my credit card payment until a month later...and still were calling....RPM needs to close down
- AlfalfaCollection agencies - they seem to call at the worst possible times - all in an effort to collect unpaid debt. Sometimes even if you don't owe them a dime.
Now, imagine being harassed to pay the debt for someone you don't even know. That problem is ringing true for one Bay Area woman.
Helene Class's phone is ringing off the hook, for the past three months.
"Early morning...dinner time when I'm trying to change the baby," said Helene.
And they are calling to collect unpaid debt she says, "When I'm trying to serve dinner at my house...when we're trying to sleep in on Sunday morning."
But, it's not Helene's debt or anyone in her families. It's debt owed by the man that used to live in the house that Helene is now renting.
"I think they must have connected my phone number to his old address and I'm trying to tell them I have nothing to do with him," said Helene.
"Debt collectors are going to try to find anyone that's going to pay them...they're not necessarily interested in whether or not you owe them money," said Joe Ridout of Consumer Action.
Ridout said to make it stop you must send a letter to the collection agency within the first thirty days.
Ridout explains "Once that debt is sold to a third party collection agency, there are certain rights under what's called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act."
Here's just a few of those rights:
-Collectors can not call before 8am or after 9 pm.
-They can't call another person in the attempt to reach you.
-They can't pretend they are a government agency or an attorney.
In Helene's case, since this isn't even her debt, "You have the right to demand that they prove that they own the debt and the debt is yours," said Ridout.
"I asked them to stop calling me that they were harassing me!" says Helene.
Rpm is the agency that has been calling Helene. We found websites dedicated to consumers who have had negative experiences with RPM.
"Three times they said they would take me off their list and they Didn't," said Helene. So she turned the table and threatened them.
"When I said I'm going to report them to the police for harassment, she said, 'Oh, I'm sooo afraid,'" recalls Helene. "After that she hung up."
We called RPM Collection Agency and when we told them who we were, they put us on hold for 15 minutes and then disconnected our call.

All a consumer has to do is send them a Debt Validation letter and the collection agency is required by law to validate the debt.If they can not they can collect on it. Don't know where you get your info. You probally work at a collection agency.
- IrritatedGo to https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and file a complaint with the FTC. I just did. We have received about 100 calls (I never pick up the phone) over 6 weeks. Like most people, we are not in collections and do not know the person they call for (only on two of the calls did they leave messages). I put in their web address www.receivablesperformance.com, and listed all the numbers they use. If many of us do this, maybe something will be done. This is a phishing scheme.

- askap1900They called me six times yesterday. They call from either area code 703 and 410. Each time I or my partner answers and there is no response. Well they called around 6:30 p.m. PST and asked for me. The message was to call Rick at 1-866-7408 regarding a great business opportunity. I knew is was a scam but called the number and was put on hold for 10 minutes and then was asked to leave a message. I am not aware of any debts but want to know why they keep calling me.

- TT replies to Fred Smith| 6 repliesThey are allowed to call from 8am until 9pm. I use to work for those [***] and they could care less how people are treated as long as they get their money. They had me calling people who had just went trough Hurricane Katrina telling them that thay don't care that they have no place to live the bill was owed before the hurricane so they need to pay it, and that was the last straw for me. I had to go you have to be some kind of heartless best to like a job like this. Most of the people they hire anyway are ex-cons, meth heads and people who are not even remotly hireable anywhere else. People file complaints on their [***] constantly and nothing is being done and I don't think it will be. So I am very sorry for the HELL that people must go through. Next time they call tell them you want to talk to Howard (the owner), see what they say then!!!!
- Sally WerreThese people keep calling me wanting to speak with my daughter and I told them that she does not live here and when I ask them what the call is in reference to, they indicated to me that they cannot release who they are nor why they are calling. I don't want them to call my house ever again.

http://www.privacyrights.org/Letters/debt6.htm - JimbobThey started by contacting my parents. My father never gives out personal information and took a message from Mr. Coker. I called back the 866-212-7408 phone number and gave them the number that they called to reach my father. I refused to answer his questions and verify that I owed Verizon long distance $500+ dollars from 2000. I don't ever remember this debt at all. Now when they call I play games with them. Today I asked how if his mom talked about me and if she told him how much she likes [***] in her mouth. He became belligerent quick. HAHAHA. Even if this was a legit account I owe money for the statute of limitations ran up 2 years ago. Only six years SoL in NY. Looks like they are SOL because I will continue to harass them every time they call. BTW - the women who work for them don't like when you refer to them as Ms. C*nt.
