My 94 year old father just got this letter yesterday (12/07/2019).  We can't tell if it is a scam or not. Two different phone numbers, and why won't they tell us the amount on the paper?  My sister and I check his mail and handle his bills. Everything is on auto pay and she handled his VA visits. She's perplexed as to what this could be about. 120 days ago (looking up online when something like this goes out here in Arizona), he had a procedure done not at a VA hospital but at Banner and at the time his Medicare and BlueCross was used.  He rarely if ever uses his VA benefits.  Something's not right here.

Received a 4 page letter from Fiscal Service-DMSC po box 830794 Birmingham AL 35283-0794...stating up to 15 percent of my monthly SSI benefits will be withheld.  It never stated how much & it doesn't have any of my personal n4...Seems like a scam to me

You have any luck on checking this? I just got the same letter. First glance got me worried. I barely have enough SS to survive and 15% drop would be devastating. The only bill I really have is meds copayment and not really so much.
That last part had me beginning to wonder. How come they never mention how much I owe? Like, would it not be easiest for them to say, "Pay this amount ($$$) now and avoid us taking 15% out of your SS." But NO! Not any dollar amount at all. The web site looks impressive, but anyone can make a web site.
I see a lot other people say it is a scam. I guess I will sit with that. If it is not a scam then I will probably only loose out on a single month. Of course I can question this deduction with the SSA. It is really so unlikely that such an agency can even go into my SS account.
That is interesting. I am thinking then to just contact those who no better...those at the SSA.

It has been a year and 1/2 since you posted. What happen to yours? I mean, did they end up collecting or is it really just a scam. I also have just recently gotten 2 of those same letters. I have no notice of any debt amount, just that they "May" be withholding up to 15% starting 12-2021. I do smell a SCAM but I guess I only have about 3 weeks to know the truth. Let me know how it turned out for you.

Thank you for the update. My dad just received a letter. The letter seems funny too in that it has a date set after the first of the month. Now why would they not take the money before we had a chance to remove it ? Seems like the debt would be taken from OPM and routed to this agency if it was totally legit. Why would the government seek to use a collection agency for seniors and elderly? SMh.....

Its JAN 2022 and its still going on folks... Some of you are saying SS and some are saying OPM. I thought these were separate entities? OPM pays pension which there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to owe a debt on. They actually increase pay every year. No way Social Security will overpay a veteran either.. they send increase every year as well. Your financial documents will show this every January. The Award letter from Social Security and the new year statements from 1 or 2 OPM accounts. The amounts they claim to be withheld are lots of times way higher than the pension check itself. HINT: Outstanding medical wont be collected by the government. The Gov pays their share and any balance is on the hospital and their personal debt agencies. The VA hospital is something different. My father doesnt use them. The hospital doesnt bill the government for something not covered...Other than medical their is literally NO OTHER WAY the government can overpay a veteran through pension OPM or Social Security. Ive never heard of OPM pension fraud. Feel free to chime in...

I got a letter from Fiscal Service saying I owed a debt to Veterans Health Administration, Account no. CSNG5744435.
After checking with the bank, I discovered this scam actually DID withhold $864.82. The lady at the VA said the records showed this amount was indeed withheld from my VA disability compensation check. The lady was very confused and could not find the Acct. no. that was listed on this letter from Bureau of the Fiscal Service. I checked and found that veterans all over the USA are getting money stolen from their checks and the number listed on the "FUNDS MAY BE WITHHELD" letter. I have cognitive impairment and am type I diabetic and can't work anymore. This is destroying me financially and we have tried and nobody answers the phone numbers listed on this letter.
Please, for God's sake help me and my family. I also have 2 grandchildren, and we all live with my parents. We need intervention asap.

That person posted here in 2022. You can hope and pray that they stop back after 2 years to answer you or you could simply call up the VA and ask them what's up. Your choice hope you make the right one.
