- anonymous replies to MaryYou do realize that these alleged "overcharges" is only what ACT *SAYS* is an overcharge? To get a *CASH* refund from your lender, you'll have to hire an attorney at $hundreds/hour to fight your lender in court for months? years? with uncertain outcome. Who decides if the "overcharges" found by ACT is legit? ACT? Your lender? A third party? Who? Your lender has a signed, legal mortgage note in hand and there is no way in hell he's going to give back any money without a fight. ACT finding an overcharge is *NOT* the same as immediate *CASH* in your hands, is it?
The only other "overcharge" ACT can possibly find is alleged interest "overcharges" that can be "refunded" without the need for an attorney if you will only buy their ACT Program at $49.95/month for the duration it takes you to pay off your mortgage early, say in roughly 10 years for a 30-year mortgage. The present value of $49.95/month at 1% APR (what savings accounts are paying) for 10 years is ~$5,700, i.e., this is the equivalent one-time present cost for the ACT Program. The ACT Program is nothing but repackaged MMA software that sold for $3,500 and mikef07 says at the top of the page here http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/finance/741118/?start=914 that "The results do show that by using the MMA software it would cost me $5070.29 extra," to pay off his mortgage early and that was when the MMA cost was $3,500. At today's cost of ~$5,700, mikef07 will lose 5070.29+5700-3500=$7,270.29! ACT sneakily raised prices from $3,500 to ~$5,700 by going to a per-month payment scheme.
If you really want to pay your mortgage off early and "save" many $thousands in mortgage interest, you can do it by paying additional principal every time you make a regular mortgage payment -- the more extra principal you pay, the earlier you pay it, the faster the mortgage paid off, the less $interest you will pay, and the larger the interest "overcharges" will be "refunded." Be aware it may not be smart to tie you your cash in an illiquid asset (your home) given the housing crisis today with a million foreclosed homes on the market and with more on the way.
If ACT offers you a audit fee refund if no "overcharge" is found, beware you may never get any refund at all -- see We don't work for free's 2 Feb 2011 reply to Don't do it on this page https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-688-5904 that there may exist a loophole that allows ACT to keep your $149 no matter what happens.
Mary, I hope you're not a shill like Brian is! - AdamGot this letter in San Diego, a V reference number. Their number is listed as 1-888-755-4890. I think they should change their number to 1-888-RIP-OFF or 1-888-BIG-SCAM. What a joke, clever though.

- Minuteman Orlando, FloridaI came home and my wife showed me the letter that came in the mail today. Like most Americans, it's easy to be entised by such an offer, especially during hard times. An that's exactly what these CROOKS are banking on. These types of people that prey on the hard working should be taken in the middle of the street and SHOT!
Sorry! not really! just let my emotions get the best of me. After All, we are a civilized society! :)- Caller: ACT TM Audit

- mike| 1 replyso which of our marvelous tax rich government agencies are supposed to be policing all these scam artists?
I received a call from another scam firm based in CO and FL claiming they would remove a non existent lien against me when no lien exists. Contacted the state attorneys in both states and the Federal Dept of Justice but never even heard back. - anonymous replies to mike"tax rich government agencies" is a strawman. If gov agencies are "tax rich", then why do we have to borrow money just to pay the interest on the national debt?
