866-259-0031

Received a snail mail about how I might be "owed a refund" on my mortgage that was funded in 2005 and listed this 1-866-259-0031 number to call.  I did not.  They obviously pulled from public records.  There is no company information associated with this letter.  Smells fishy.

Just received same said 'snail mail' via bulk mail, as Hugh Homeowner above stated.  Date reflects a refinance we did.
The letter also listed 1-866-259-0031, which I did not call.  
My instinct brought me to this site and am glad I followed through.

Ditto on above ~ these scammers are certainly preying on the financially distraught and hungry for hope folks!!  legit audits are never this ambiguous.

I came to this thread from https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-670-5577/3 where poster "Dont scam me" said on 3 Mar 2011 that 866-259-0031 was the number on her letter. This may be a mortgage-audit scam. They ask for $149 up front to find errors on your mortgage papers with full refund if they don't find anything. Of course they will find SOMETHING and keep your $149. The analog I use is would you let me audit your roof with the same refund offer? I'm going to find a loose shingle and keep your money. The money spent on the vast majority of roof audits is a waste since most roofs don't leak even with loose shingles. Ditto for mortgage audits.

Just got one of these in the mail.  I'm glad I found this post.  I'll just file this one in the garbage bin.

We got one of these last week via 'snail mail'.... I was promptly suspect as there is not much info on the company itself on the paperwork I assume they found public records as the date of purchase and loan amount was correct......I'm glad I looked up the # and found this thread!

I also received this suspicious letter with ACT listed at the top of the letter. I'm suspicious of everything nowadays so I decided to research this and it seems to be a scam.

I just got a similar letter and found it very well written for a scam, so I am very glad my cautiousness led me.  It is going into the trash!  Also said ACT at the top.

Apparently received same letter today.  Too vague for me, off to the landfill with it!  I love the internet, being able to research this kind of thing helps me avoid being scammed!  Could not find any info on the number or name.  Never too cautious these days.

Got this letter too.  Oh, 800notes, what would we do without you?  I'm guessing that everybody else's "Property Eligibility" number is R031784246 just like mine.

Nope, my R number is a little higher, this has major scam written all over it. I'm notifying my Attorney General's office and suggest everyone else do likewise; they love scams like this. Some people may actually fall for this type of nonsense so it's good to shut these people down ASAP.

I just received that letter today (Mortgage Audit). I'm glad I found this website. This letter is going in the trash.

Never got a phone call but I received the letter on "Mortgage Audit" and possible "refund" and asked to call 1-866-259-0031.  Decided to research before calling.  I never call any number before doing that any longer.  Found this site and it only confirmed what I thought.  Mine finds it's way to the trash bin also.

Got the same letter today.  Immediately started researching on line.  Found this.  Thanks everyone.  It's getting tossed in the trash.

I received the letter yesterday.  Don't trash these letters, turn them over to your State Attorney General's office.  The letter (scam) is very well put together and looks professional .... so many will fall for it unless they are shut down.

This reminds me of the Homestead Exemption scam pulled on new homeowners that don't claim their homestead exemption with the county tax office before Oct. 1.   Tax consulting companies keep track of this information, then send the new homeowners a postcard saying that "someone you do business with owes you money - and we can get it."  What they're talking about is the amount of property tax that you pay over the homestead exemption.  They get you to sign a contract saying that they will be your tax consultant and are entitled to 1/2 of the savings they can get you.  "And by the way, we noticed that you haven't filed your Homestead Exemption so we'll do that for free."   That is the catch; as soon as you, the homeowner, could have filed your homestead exemption for free, the county will gladly refund the overage to you.  But that tax consultants now lay claim to half of it.  This is a complete rip-off, but legal.
