got a call from this number today claiming it to be from PNC bank concerning activity on my account...the woman caller spoke broken English...I would not give any information...told her I would call them back...she gave me the number and a "file number.."   I then called the legit PNC-BANK numer.....PNC said is was "phishing" and not to call them back.

As for the folks who are posting this as a credible number....perhaps they are working for the PHISHING organization???

I just got the same call yesterday, the woman said that the address on my bank account had changed and she needs to verify it, that all I need is to give her my name and address.  When I hesitated, she made it sounds very urgent.  I figured giving her my name and address would be ok.  Then she said that it's not the same address and proceed to ask me more sensitive question.  When she repeats the name of the acct, I told her that was my mom's.  She then gave me the number to call back with ref #.  I actually call the local PNC after and no change on the acct.  I google PNC phone fraud and there's the page on PNC website specifically stating that they would never call and ask for any account information.  So please beware of these phone scams!  Don't even give them any info, not even address or name.  I taken that this 866-295-9060 is not a legitimate number, otherwise, PNC would have listed on their website by now, consider the fact that many of us concerned over it!

Look up PNC Phone Fraud on google.  The page actually clarify that they won't be asking any sensitive info and account information over the phone.  Don't even bother giving name or address, told them you will contact you PNC bank.  NOTICE one thing all these thread have in common, the woman or representative, calling at around 6:30, 6:45, very close to the end of work hour.  Playing with your psyche, that you don't have much time to correct the problem, so that if you so worry you would most likely giving out your account information!  Beware people!  She called me and said that there are change to my account, which when I check with the local PNC, that is totally untrue!

I received a call from them this morning around 10:00. Two within about a minute. I didn't answer it because it came up as unavailable. I listened to the voicemail and it was some woman telling me she's from PNC and to call them back at this number, a reference code and to call back before 6:30. Said it was not a sales call. Weird thing was is she said my last name wrong which made me suspicious. Then I looked up the number and found this website and got even more suspicious, lol.

So I called the main PNC bank number and the woman said it was their fraud department number and she verified it was a real PNC number. Called that number back, spoke to a lady who just wanted to verify my address. She told me that they wanted to verify that a check I wrote to a Plumbing company for 3200 was really me because the signature didn't match up to mine. (My husband signed my name to that check so I thought it was cool that they actually do match up the signatures.) I never had to give any info but my name/address. She was the one who told me who the check was written to and the exact amount, plus the person at PNC I spoke to verified this was a real number.

If you get a call from this number, you can call PNC's main line 1-888-762-2265 (I-888-PNC-BANK) to verify it. (I got that phone number of their site). .

To the person who said that those people who say this phone number is legit might be scammers too (Merv?) all I have to say is, call the number for PNC located on the main PNC.com website. That's who verified it for me and it should be easy enough for other people to call too.

I have the same story about the "Unknown" number and suspicious message.
Long story short: It actually IS a real call center from PNC.
Shorth story long: I didn't trust it, the call came in at 6:30 PM saying they needed a call back by 6:45. That seemed fishy to me so I checked my account on-line and saw no messages from the bank. I decided not to call them back. The next morning, a check I had written for over $600 was returned... so I called the regular PNC number, waited 11 min to talk to a person, they verified that the number is their call center for suspicious activity. They do not have direct inbound dial capability on their individual phones, only outbound calling and their inbound calls come from that 866 number.
So... believe me if you will, or you will have to re-submit a bill like I am doing right now.

I received a call in the evening from this number, and it came up NO CALLER ID. A man said he was calling from PNC and wanted to speak to me, but that he wanted me to verify information for him to prove it was me. I told him no way - he called me, he can state his business. He said it was an urgent call about my account and he couldn't tell me more until I verified information. I told him to read what he had to me and I would verify and he said I had to give it to him. I told him I was absolutely not comfortable with that and that I would call the bank back myself (I had a credit card # stolen through an online shopping site last summer, I'm not taking chances). He gave me this number and a reference number and said I MUST call back within 45 minutes or else they would take some action on my account. They wouldn't even allow me to wait to speak to someone at the local branch the next day.

So I looked up this phone number and nowhere is it associated with PNC officially. I called the number on the back of my bank card and the rep said there was no record of them calling me, and to disregard the call. I explained to the rep that I had recently written a large check for a remodeling job and was wondering if that was what it was about, and told them I didn't want them to bounce it, but the rep said there was no note on the account about any issue with a check.

Despite all of this, the next day, they bounced the check! I called back and explained all of the above and they did sort it out. So yes, it's legitimate. I guess this is a call center for more than just PNC bank. I appreciate the effort to keep my account safe, but I don't think this is the right way to handle verification.

This is actually a legitimate number for the PNC fraud department. I called back and without asking for any specific account info (beyond the  mailing address), they explained that they needed to confirm if I wrote a check because the signature looked a little different.

It is NOT legit and now they are sending bogus emails with this phone number. They list your account number as ####234. PNC always uses XXX1234. The last four digits of your account number. And the account they listed does not exist in my accounts. I called and PNC said they do NOT notify you via email and do NOT provide this number to anyone. Beware it's your dollar!

Completely legitimate. I called and gave them very little information, they called to verify that I had made the check out and apparently the signatures didn't match exactly like the one they had on file.

I received a call from these same phishing scammers today.  They were claiming they had to "Verify my Check." His number showed as "Unavailable" on my caller ID.  I told him that I do NOT give personal information on the phone.  After I repeatedly refused to provide my name and address, he said to call PNC at 866-295-6060 and gave me a reference number.  Instead, I called PNC Bank on the number on the back of my PNC debit card.  The REAL PNC Bank said there were no checks pending on my account and identified this caller as a "Phishing" scammer.  They took a "Security Incident" report and told me I have "Fraud Guarantee" on my PNC account and therefore I did not have to worry.

I think a lot of these posts here that claim 866-295-6060 is a "legitimate" PNC number must be posted by these same scammers to confuse people.

Got a voicemail today and person left message saying they were calling from my bank and said it was urgent I call them back tonight before 6:30p. Gave me this phone number to call back and a reference number. I went online and found my banks customer service number and spoke to a rep there and after some research they came back and said it wasn't one of their numbers and a fraudulent call. Beware

I got this same call today from a lady asking me to call back with the sequence ID number.  First I checked my account online and noticed nothing out of the ordinary.  So I called the main customer service line for PNC.  The lady said there was nothing noted in my account and she was not aware of anyone calling me about activity on my account.  Ok, so who called?  Well I called the number back they wanted the sequence ID number and I gave it to them.  They asked me to verify my name and address and I did.  Then they asked about a recent check I wrote and had all the information on the check even what I wrote in the memo section.  Said the handwriting didn't match previous checks.  Hmmmmm....... well I normally send electronic checks and don't normally write them.  So perhaps it's really PNC.  I did verify my check and that was the end of the call.  Going to do a little more research about how PNC handles Fraud since there are so many different opinions here and I did verify my info.
