This was a legitimate call from PNC Bank. Instead of calling this number back, I called PNC's fraud department directly and they confirmed that they had called me to verify a (legitimate) check I had written yesterday.

If that were true, then you would have no logical reason to look up this phone number. Besides, just because it was valid for you doesn't mean it is for others since scammers frequently spoof legitimate phone numbers.

Got a call from this number, hung up as I answered. Caller ID said PNC Bank. Not sure what bank that is. Reading posts, I’m not going to call it back as I don’t have an acct with them so no known reason as to why they would call me other than “phishing”

Caller LM stating they were from PNC service desk about recent activity in the account. Called the real main number for PNC, they stated the call was a scam and they are aware and investigating.

Received a call from 866-295-9060 this morning September 6, 2021 which happens to be Labor Day with instructions to call the next day because the bank is closed for the holiday.
So, why are they calling on the holiday? I think I'll call the 800 number I always call when I have questions regarding my account!

Or you could simply go online to your account to see if there is anything wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I called my bank this morning and spoke with customer service who suggested the call regarded an usual transaction I made. They transferred me to the exception service desk where I verified the transaction in question. All is well.
I am grateful for the care the bank exercised regarding the matter.

Received same alert 10/06/2025 but in email form asking us to call this phone number listing our bank name and the last 3 digits of our account number.  They listed a sequence number to provide when we call.  And threatened if we don't they will make a decision by that night.

Got an email from pncalerts@pnc.com claiming suspicious activity on our account and that we should call 866-295-9060 by the end of the day.  I called 1-888-PNC-BANK and they confirmed that 866-295-9060 is the direct line to call when there's suspicious activity.  I was able to confirm that the check in question was, in fact, legitimate.

So 866-295-9060 is a valid PNC number.  However, if you receive a phone call from this number, it's best to hang up and call back, since it's true that callers can spoof any caller-id number they want to, and therefore pretend to be the bank.
