Wow, are YOU really that stupid? Why would you need to be able to hear someone to learn how to write? Do you honestly think that some one that can't hear has no chance of learning to write? Does this also mean that person can't read? WOW I didn't think people were this closed minded!

Received a call from this number last night and the caller said she was deaf and trying to reach someone at my number who was from Romania.  It was very believable.  I told her I did not know the person. She said it was the only number she had. She sounded desparate.  But, I could not help her.  (I have seen this number pop up on my phone many times over the past few weeks, but have not answered, assuming it was a solicitation. No message was ever left. Last night, she called at 12:30 p.m, and I didn't notice the number -- just answered assuming it was an emergency.)

The US Government Caller ID is correct they get their funding from the US government. Please remember these scammers are using any and all avenues to make the scams.

My Deaf friends use Sorenson relay service to call me on my cell phone. This number will always show on my cell as I'm getting a relay call. Either you're friends with a Deaf person, and they're trying to reach you, or they may have your number by mistake. If it's a mistake, use the interpreter to relay to the deaf person that you don't know them, and they have the wrong number. This is a very legit service for the deaf, and it's not a scam.

We had the same TDD phone call from Carolyn Gray for a AKC puppy. We thought it was fishy - asked for an address - were provided an apartment building address in NY. I could not understand what a deaf woman would want with a puppy in an apartment building in the middle of the city.

We agreed to the deal - got the check for $2500 and took it to the bank. The bank really did exist but it was ATM only and the business name was a farm in TX. I called them and they said others called them about buying farm equipment. Same deal - they wanted us to cash and send "express" western union to someone in Guam. I turned everything I had to the farm in TX since it was a scam with their name they reported to the FBI.

Our ads are on the internet - so everyone BEWARE if you get a call from TDD service. Mine was from Stockton, CA.

We still have the puppy for sale too!

You can always ask for contact information if you are unaware/don't know the person calling and using this service.  My cousin, who is deaf, uses this interpreter service and it can be confusing at first.  I googled the number today to see what it goes back to, and found that some may be scammed or perhaps think they are being scammed.  Please know that this is a legitimate service for the deaf and/or hard of hearing.

I got an email exactly like the ones being discussed. A lady saying that she wanted to buy a puppy for her son. I beleived her. I thought it was a little odd how she found my add since she said she lived in Illinois but wanted her son to have a puppy for his birthday. I asked alot of questions and she just kept saying she would give me more information when I recieved the payment. I went ahead and gave her my name and address saying that I still needed all the information. It wasnt until I recieved a second phone call from a "hearing impaired" person that a red flag went up. He gave me the exact same story so I called him out on it. He then claimed that it was his sister who had emailed me so I said if that was the case, he could get my information from her. I never heard from him again. As for the lady, I told her that I thought I was being scammed and she asked if I was trying to insult her!! Who's insulting who thinking that I would fall for something like this... People like this ruin it for the good people out there who a) really are deaf and have to communicate with a relay service or b) really want a puppy shipped to them. If you get an email like this, my advice would be to inform them that you will sell the puppy to whoever comes to your house to get it WITH CASH!!

Hi I just called a deaf person, and they called me back from this number,...just an FYI for some of the ppl who got a missed call from this number. Most likely, they might have just dialed a wrong number and it got to you,...so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

My wife is deaf and uses Sorenson Relay service.  This is their ourgoing number, I get it when she calls me.  Unfortunately scammers also try to use the relay service (Sorenson provides IP Relay also, so easier for foreign people to access that way, though they are not supposed to).  Because of federal laws, Sorenson interpreters must interpret every call that comes in.  So the scammers use it to their advantage.  Because of this, my wife sometimes has trouble when trying to call businesses.  For example, a car care place refused to take her reservation for an oil change until I called them.  A pizza place refused to take an order, etc.

Just use your common sense.  If they start talking about buying things and doing something fishy with checks, and cash back, etc. then treat it as a scam and ignore.  But if they are trying to do something simple like order a pizza (assuming you are a pizza place) then treat it like any regular call.  It allowed my wife not to have to depend on me to make all the calls for her (other than the ones who think relay calls are scams).

It's generally true what people are saying. This is a call service for deaf people to use. The sorensen service is legitimate (I looked it up), though I couldn't find the  866-327-8877 number on their website. (Perhaps someone else can.)

Unfortunately, it seems a scammer was trying to use this legitimate service. Honestly, it was scary, because they knew my first name and said they were waiting for me and that i was late for meeting them, as if they were trying to lure me out of the house.

I'm going to contact sorensen. I really hope they'll help me track this down. People never help in this situation, but I hope they do.

ok, I get the fact that this is a legit number AND it is used for scammers. BUT I have a charge on my credit card in the amount of $39.90. Frankly, I'm very careful of giving out my cc#, not even to charities. I insist on mailing a check to the ones that I support. Someone mentioned proactive in comments - I would not be purchasing that and I have not received any product.  info. on my cc = LEANADVISORMD

Received a call from this number stating that someone called 911 and hung up. The number comes up on our caller ID as Jennifer Ayque. This is a business and I told the lady that no one here called 911. She repeated the phone number it came in from and unfortunately our phones are digital and we have 100 lines. She finally said ok and hung up. Strange!

This number is associated with Sorenson Video Relay Service.  I know, since i work for that company.  This is a legit call, especially if you know somebody that is Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing.  There has been times where I would be in a call and a Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing caller would call a number by mistake, wrong number, it happens with everyone.  It also could be some teenage Deaf kid calling making prank calls.

As an Interpreter, we do not decide which calls to take and which not to take, we don't filter calls, add or remove content, we accept all calls, unless we receive a caller that is being abusive to the interpreter.....we facilitate communication between Deaf, hard of hearing, and Hearing callers.

There has been scamming in the past and prolly still going on callers from Nigeria imposing as Video Relay Interpreters.  Usually when a Deaf person calls you, you will see their number and not the company's 800 number, so if you get someone with an accent and dont understand...just ask for the Deaf person's direct phone number, and call that number back, it's usually not a 1-800 number unless the Deaf person has a business, Doctor, etc...yes I said Doctor...I've interpreted for quite a few Doctors, nurses, vets, etc that are Deaf. Call back and if u get an interpreter with an accent other than American and Hispanic then i would be cautious. We do have Spanish Video Relay Interpreters for the Deaf...SVRS only has English (ASL) and Spanish Interpreters.

For more information on SVRS and contact information, check out the website at, http://www.sorensonvrs.com/  From there u can get more insight and also there's a contact number to contact customer service if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Hope this information was helpful.
