They call me and left a msg with my brother to call 866-328-8252 in regards about my son credit card of back payment.  Don't remember the first man I talk to but he was willing to settle my son acct at a reduce amount.  Then he handed me over to another person name Lana.  She said that our conservation will be recorded.  I know that my son was having a hard time on finding work, but I do care for him when I can and agreed to settle my son credit card back payments.  Now that I found all these complaints, I am having second thought.  So I sent another e-mail to my bank to cancel the first e-mail I sent early to confirm what I did.
Boy, I tell you getting an education can be very expensive.

Harassing phone calls starting at before 8:00AM.
They don;t care if you are the preson or not continue to call.
It is a scam.  When I ask if they had a license to operate business in the state of NC.  I said I was the person they ask for by first name even though I am not.  I ask for an original copy of the contract and I would be glad to send them any amount of money they wanted.  In fact, they could just quote me a figure and I would send them a blank check.
They hung up.  There has been at least 100 calls from this number.

Never ever pay a collection agency.  You will never ever get credit and they do not have the authority to restore your credit; in fact, they  will redestroy your credit.  You can not be sued for a credit card debt.  You can not be responsible for a debt of another including a family member.  Only idiots pay collection companies, not in the year 2009.  Credit collection companies are a scam and only operate on intimidation.  A lot of people be them educated or not will allow themselves to be sucked in or intimidated to these scum bags.  Hang up on them.  Why would anyone take there word for any debt for someone in your family or even an ex.  You would do a lot better to donate your money to a charity.  These are scavengers just like scavanger fish and birds they are the lowest form of life and will eat anything you throw them.  Any calls coming from 866.328.8252 are to be reported to the attorney general of your state and the secretary of state or the FCC.
I reported them to the Attorney General of the State of NC.  It is pure and simple legal term for harassement and invasion of your privacy.
I hope they are sued big time, shut down and indited.

I man named Jim called me everyday from Northstar for 1 WEEK and he told me he would accept monthly payments, I agreed to around 100 a month but I also told him that I wouldn't pay until I got a letter from Northstar (so i knew it wasnt a scam) anyway he called back a few days later and I advised him I had the letter and was ready to start the process. He said we never agreed to 100 a month and he needed the whole 1900 now, then he told me "You dont pay your bills" and called me a "Liar" and my credit would suffer for 7 years". Then he hung up on me.

A few days later he called me back and said his name was "Tim White" from Northstar! I new it was "Jim" the whole time, "his voice and New York accent are unmistakable" I just told him not to call me ever again.

Called asking for another person.  Called them back to tell them they had reached another family, not the one they were looking for.  Very belligerent asking if I knew the person.  Asked to be removed from their calling list.

I am a employee with The City of Daytona Beach, Florida. The phone calls from this
number or others that are assigned to this Collection Agency start coming in at
soon as 8:10 a.m. City Hall opens for business at 8:00 a.m. This is a government
office and they really don't allow personal calls from debt collectors to interfere
with the day to day operations of City government. Why do these companies call you
on your job, when it's a chance those types of calls can possibly cause you to loose
    your job!

First off, I would like to say that I'm a personal Business Manager, handling the daily financial and business affairs of individual private clients. This is my personal general advice only. This is not intended for specific individual or party and it may not apply.

I couldn't agree with you more.  These people work off of intimidation and threats.  In no way are they trying to help out the individual, it's all about collecting monies for their commissions and profit for the company.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for making a profit and getting paid commission / salary for my work. I'm sure everyone here enjoys receiving their paycheck, but there are a lot of other ways to do so.

    ******  IMPORTANT FACT  *********
In reference to your comment, "You can not be sued for a credit card debt." is unfortunately inaccurate. You can most definitely get sued by a credit card company for an unpaid debt. This is a common misconception because of the term "Unsecured Debt".  Yes, at the time of receiving your approved credit you are not pledging or providing the creditor with a "Security Interest", such as an automobile or a home.

However, when you do not repay the debt as specified in the "Terms and Agreement" you are then in "Breach of Contract".  Now with that said, the credit card co has four options. One, try to collect the debt in house and workout a repayment plan with a willing borrower.  If within six to nine months (approx 180 days) the debt is not repaid or a plan is in place the creditor is now left with three remaining options.

If option one fails, the creditor is now at a crossroads so to speak and the next decision made is usually the final decision made by the "Original Creditor", which is purely financial. They will Charge Off the balance as an noncollectable bad debt, end of story.  The next option would be to place the account w/ an outside collection company like this company like North Star or Nationwide, usually selling to them for pennies on the dollar.

The remaining option would be to take legal action against the debtor.  This will only happen if it makes financial sense, usually meaning a larger some of money ($10,00 and up) compared to the normal $3k to $5k amount.  This is because it costs the creditor up front expenses to pursue legal actions in attempts to collect the debt.

An attorney in your state will be retained by the creditor to proceed with this action.  The attorney will petition the clerk of court by providing information and evidence of the supposed unpaid debt is infact in breach of contract giving the creditor grounds to file the claim in court.

Next, the attorney will have you served with papers showing the documentation and their charges against you and you are summonsed to appear in court at set date in the near future.  You are now on a clock to respond to these charges and dispute them with "Good Reason" (Proof) in open court or sign and attest that the claim is valid, which for the most part is usually true.

Assuming you can't prove the debt isn't your and you never signed all of your charge receipts, ect... after the court hearing / summons date you can now consider yourself officially sued by by your credit card company, which totally sucks! They now have a court ordered Judgment against you (your person) for the awarded balance of the debt and their legal fees it cost them to sue you.

Now this is where it goes from bad to worse.  With the Judgment against you their next step is to exercise that judgment and put it into place.  This can be done in any number of ways.  The attorney will take the valid active judgment back into court and petition a method in which they would like pursue in attempt to collect the debt.  There are many was to do this, to list just a few- Attach your bank account for the amount requested, legally requiring your bank to comply w/o your knowledge until after the fact, or garnish your wages in attempt to collect or place a lien on real property that you own, car, house etc..  One hitch, is that whatever they attach must be just your name, yours and only yours.  So if you and your wife are on the title to the car or house, that will fail.  Also if the bank account is a joint account they cant attach that either.  As far as garnishing wages goes, it is almost impossible if you are self employed compared to regular employment and getting a W2 and Pay stubs.

    Good Luck

They just won't stop calling. I'm not the kind of person who yell on the phone, but after telling them for over a month the person they are looking for is the previous tenant in this apartment and we are not related, and they keep calling AND just hang up on us whenever we try to ask for an address to send them a complaint, I lost my patience and filed a complaint against them through FDC. Call this number to Federal Trade Commision to do it if they are harassing you: 1-800-382-4357.

Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.

Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.

This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc.  NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls.  In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc.  Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.

    David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors.  Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call.  Judge Davis wrote;

[The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.

Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.

So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?

    1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
    2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
    3. Contact a consumer lawyer.
