A man by the name of Eric Dickson said to call pertaining to a B of A account. Only business we have ever had with them was a small second mortgage which was recently paid off in full.
The message asked for my husband by first and last name, but did NOT state my first name, only used MRS. Red Flags went up after that. My husband does have a common name and we are listed in the phonebooks. I think they are fishing.- Caller: Unknown

- lmamThis Northstar Company is a "bad" group of scam artists. I have been receiving phone calls from this number as well as: 631-926-3674,716-817-6770 and 888-820-0963. I haven't answered the phone when these numbers show up and will be reporting them to my Attorney General. They call quite frequently (4-5 times per day). So sad that in this time in our country we have knuckleheads working or they say they are working for such a scam company.

- KJBNorthstar called me concerning an account that was with Bank of America and now they have it. This account is very old and I am not sure about the $ amount. I asked them to send me the information through the mail. I was then transferred to a "hard core" collector. This woman would not understand that I do not have the money at this time and that I can only pay $25.00 a month. She said that she could not take that amount and wanted a down payment I told her I could not pay. Then the questions started. Why are you paying other bills and not this one, why can't you pay more, along with "I don't understand you" and "I need a down payment now".
This is the time I told her to cease and desist all phone calls and to contact me by mail. Did I do the right thing?- Caller: Northstar Collections

- P. Zonthym866-328-8252 calls several times a day. I think they get away with this because they try you at home, work, and cell. They did leave a message one time but the caller was obviously reading a script and sounded arrogant and irritated.
I can't make excuses for myself. I do owe $400.00 dollars to Walmart/Sams Club. But I have been unemployed for 2 years, unemployment benefits ran out, savings used up, and house is 1.5 payments away from foreclosure.
I had arrangements made to pay this off thru an agency but they basically took fee and arranged for me to accrue more interest and increased the original balance due.
Can't win for losing but who needs added stress of calls at all times of the day ... continually?- Caller: Northstar

- Knowledgable| 2 repliesIt is perfectly legal to contact relatives or friends who know you to get location information for anyone owing a debt. They get your number through a tool called skip tracing. they find any numbers a person with debt has ever listed as possible contacts for anything, and addresses. If you read the FDCPA laws it is clearly defined that that is perfectly legal. Sometimes your relative has genuinely listed you as an alternative number on their original application for credit.
Northstar Companies is a debt collection company. It is legal to call between the hours of 8am and 9pm in the call recievers time zone.
Imho, if you owe a debt and you are recieving calls...try making a payment or scheduling a payment. Do not hesitate to ask for a fax of the arrangement. If you don't have a fax find someone who does and have it sent there. Paying even 25 bucks shows intent to pay and in most cases will stop interest and fees from accruing on the account or your account going further into collections. Most companies will NOT send emails of arrangements because emails can easily be altered.
And personally, I hold no sympathy for a person who racked up a credit card to its limit and never made a single payment on it. Stop blaming the economy. The truth is the economy is crap in part to people not paying their credit card bills, and especially to people racking up debt and filing bankruptcy. Someone has to pay that, and it comes from taxpayers money. And yes there are some poeple that paid for years on cards and fell into hard times, but atleast pay something. No payments are ever turned away.
The only way to really get a debt collector to stop calling is to set an arrangement over the phone...be it monthly payments that are postdated or a settlement. The company you owe money too did their end for several months in trying to resolve the debt to no avail and this is what happens when bills are not paid. You'd pay your car insurence wouldn't you? Think of it this way..not paying a credit card is basically borrowing money and not paying it back, which has its own term. And for interest and fees....when you signed for the card you agreed to it, even if you didn't read the fine print that explained that so there is no right to complain.- Call type: Debt collector
- Annonymous replies to Alfalfa| 1 replyI am a debt collector, fully trained on every word of the FDCPA laws. The National "DO NOT CALL" registry only applies to calls in regards to a solicitation (sales). That does not apply to debt collectors.
And to the other poster who repeatedly posted not to pay a debt collection company, you are ever so wrong. The original creditor can and WILL sue for unpaid debts.
You were correct in saying that the COMPANY will not update your credit report. They report the payment back to the original creditor and the orginal creditor will update your credit report. This takes a standard 30-90 days before the change will be seen on the credit report. - notarelative replies to KnowledgableThey call and ask for someone I have never heard of. I have had the same number for over 3-1/2 years I hve never heard of this person do not know this person and I have no tolerence for aroogant [***] who think they are better than everyone else. It is very easy to find out who is at the number you are calling.
- Annoyed| 3 repliesSeriously people, stop whining and PAY YOUR BILL. Not paying your bills is the same thing as STEALING. Try lending 5-30k to a friend and not have them pay you back. Great example you're setting for your kids by not paying back money you owe. People who do this are the reason the economy is [***]. And bankruptcy?! Seriously, what happened to the times when filing bankruptcy was a thing to be utterly ashamed of???? Now everyone is doing it and not thinking twice. I'm sick of MY tax dollars paying for you lowlifes who spend more than your means to file bankruptcy. Why don't you try getting a job!? You've been unemployed for 2 years?! GROW UP AND PAY YOUR DAMN BILLS. Or here's a thought, don't use credit cards!
