- barbsame as everyone else, only they are asking for my daughter and I thought I would goggle the name before I called them or had her call, because I couldn't come up with any legit reason for them calling her. I guess it's some kind of scam
- Caller: law firm-casey van morlen
- Bad Life for GoodLife dead beatsThings must be pretty desperate in the fitness industry for them to hand their 'bad accounts' off to a legal firm.
Best course of action is to ignore the losers. Worst plan of action is to communicate with them ( as that will be admitting that their phone harrassment reached a real human ).
Real humans they can keep harassing. But if they never make contact with anyone... then the odds are that they will dedicate their efforts to harassing the suckers that their automated phone campaign got a response from.
Face it. For $171 how much effort is a law firm going to take doing a skip tracing. It's not worth their while. Even filing a claim in small claims court would chew up their potential profit.
The odds are that there is only one 'lawyer' with this scammy collection agency. And don't you think his time is more dedicated to collecting on the guy who owes thousands to his bank or on his car loan.
If Goodlife has to go to such an extreme 'first effort' to try to collect money from dead beats........... the odds are that they will be in bankrupsy shortly and your debt owed to them will die shortly after they cease to exist.
Some of these scummy collection agencies actually buy the dishonored contracts for pennies on the dollar. They might give Goodlife $5.00 for every $100 of debt to be collected. At a certain point it is not economically viable for them to waste any additional effort harassing you or trying to track you down.
They send you a letter. Big deal.. it probably cost them less then 50 cents for the form letter, envelope and postage. They bug you with a 1-800 call. Big deal. It might cost them 50 cents per call.
If they can rope you in for their $1 investment then they stand to make good money on the debt they bought from Goodlife.
Ignore them and eventually they will just write you off. And they probably won't even bother to notify the credit bureau because they have already loss money on you when they bought a debt they could not collect and wasted time and resources ( phone - mail ) on a lost cause.
And if Joe wants to say something different... well what do you expect, he is trying to make money by coersing you in to making it easy for him ;)
.- Caller: lame collection company
- Call type: Debt collector
- JTI got a call from them yesterday for my 18 year old son. No one answers their phones there..just voice mail...no matter what extension you call. Very suspicious. I wouldn't worry about it. My son hadn't a clue what it was all about either.
Must be a scam of some sort.- Caller: Casey Vanmorlen??
- LilyGot a call from this company not sure what it is about

- FranCalled today November 20th @ 2:47pm and left a message that said they were a law firm gave me this number 1-866-424-4753 & a file number. Is this a fraud and how do we stop them from calling or Rather Stop It all together. 1147610

- ChelseaThey called me twice, and so I took down the information, and then called goodlife fitness. Apparently they don't go through a collection agency so if you call them, and talk to them, they will talk to you about the fees, and that will make them stop calling.
- Mike| 1 replyThey called me I left a message. I called my Local goodlife and they said I owed some money. But it was a mistake so they cancelled it. It is a legit collection agency... Call 800-387-2524 that is goodlife's headquarters and they will straighten out the issues. I also did confirm with them that Casey van morlen is legit and it is indeed who they go through... hope this is helpful :)
- wonderwomanI received a call waiting while on the other line today! They were looking for my old roommate who took off to live in another country.
The girl on the phone was strange. I answered the beep and said hello about three times, then she said hello and then nothing. I asked her if there was something I could help her with. She was looking for my old roommate, said all of the information fast. She told me she was from Casey Van Moorlehem Barrister and Solicitor's office. I asked her how to spell it and she spelt it wrong. If you were working for a lawyer as a law clerk or as a legal assistant, wouldn't you know how to spell your bosses name?? Kind of funny, eh, she didn't want to spell her name for me or take the time to and she provided me with a docket number and docket numbers to my knowledge are used in the U.S. and begin with letters and then a year which indicates the year of the case. Totally fishy and after I told her the guy did not live with me anymore she still provided me with this information but when I asked her what type of law they specialized in, she could not tell me....but could disclose personal information in the conversation.
I refused to give her his phone number and asked for an email where I could send it to.
She gave me a j.cruickshank's email address, which is j.cruickshank@slfcollects.com...sounds like a mom and pop collections agency to me.
I called the number she provided me just to check and there are 8 extensions, I pressed extension 8 as this was JOE's (j.cruickshank) and I got Mike's voicemail.
Kind of fishy that a collections agency has 8 extensions, they are willing to give you a docket number when you tell them the person they are looking for does not live in your home and then can't even spell their firms name correctly and when giving the information did not want to take the time to ensure that the person they were speaking with got the information down correctly. The delivery was just too fast.
Fraudulent to me.
oh and I did my research, this firm is not listed in north york lawyers or toronto lawyers under casey, van or moorlehem.
I found a Teresa Ceronigliaro and a 416 203 9444 number but no extension for her when you call their 1 866 424 4753 number....surprise surprise, just as I had suspected!- Caller: Casey Van Moorlehem Barrister & Solicito
- wonderwomanOh and to add to the above,
as I described the docket number...it was invalid.
A docket number has a year and letters usually describing what type of case it is, etc. this docket number had no years only 6 numbers. No hyphenations either, not a true docket number
Beware of these callers folks!- Caller: Casey Van Moorlehem Barrister&solicitor
- fitchicken replies to MikeI think this is a bunch of bologne,
I used to be an employee of goodlife...I highly doubt that the owner of goodlife fitness clubs would want to be part of an establishment such as this....employees can't even spell the name correctly or provide proper doc. numbers??????? - JCI got the call as well, I was also a member of goodlife. They said they were going to send me my last bill when i canceled but I never received it. This is not the first time goodlife does this. I know many people that have had billing problems with this company. If everyone is receiving the call because of goodlife bills, please contact their head office and complain. This is ridiculous and unprofessional customer service.
- anonymousCasey Van Morlin Law Firm called, woman's name was Susan Carter, gave me a case number, told me to call back and to quote case number. Very strange, I left a message as to what the call was regarding. Sounds like a scam.
- Caller: Robin Van Morlin Law Firm
- unwantedcaller"This is a message for ____ please contact the Van Mortom?? Law Firm regarding an important matter at 1-866-916-4366 and dial Extension 1 and quote file number xxxxxx." It was an automated message.
I called it... and they list off the extensions with the names associated with the extension and if you hit none of them you can leave a message with Mike arnet (it sounded like). I think hung up.
Very strange. - ash| 4 repliesI just got a call today and they left a message on my machine because I thought it was a tel a marketer and they said the same thing "hello this is the Casey Van Morland law office calling for ________ please call back this is an urgent matter" and then they gave me all these number and extentions to call. what is this? a scam of some sort.....
- P D replies to One of the same...Goodlife entered my account information wrong, and even though we corrected the error, 2 weeks later I received nearly the exact same phone call. I received a case number, extension and name, but when I called back no such extension or name existed. How unprofessional can you get? I searched the number on google and found this forum which completed the connection between Goodlife and this low life.
Maybe someday you'll be a real lawyer Casey, now go back and play with your fisher price courtroom. - svdsI had received a message at my parents of all places where my bro had picked it up. He had given me all of the information and I was a little panicky at first. I had tried to call them back ,with no experience of even a real lawyer calling me, no one answered. I had called a friend to ask about the so called case or docket number and she had informed me that docket numbers were usually more than six numbers and had some form of letters in them. When we had finished this phone conversation I had deceided to investigate a little further and then I found this website. I did also find it a little unusual that for one they had only eight extensions and second that for a law firm there was no legal secretary to answer the phone. Another thing I found weird and unusual they called my parents house which I have not lived in for eight years.
This is fradulent as far as I am conserned.- Caller: Casey Vanmoorelhem
- MR replies to AmitI'm glad that i read these b/c the same thing happened to me, i was freaking out and wondering why a law firm was trying to contact me. My stress is over sounds like some kind of catch
- KatharineReceived a call the same as everyone else. But no outstanding balance to GOODLIFE clubs. Would like to know what small print is on the fitness club paperwork that I signed that they have the right to turn over my personal information to a collection agency/collections lawyer?
Goodlife should be careful because this is enough to have me change clubs-
This is a true violation of my privacy, I feel.- Caller: VanMorland Law Firm

- I checked it out and they are legit! replies to anonymous| 3 repliesI recevied a call from them and so I decided to do some research and see why they were calling. I was able to confirm with the Goodlife Head office that The Casey Van Moorlehem Barristers & Solicitors office handle the delinquint debts that are owed on breached contracts & such. I further checked with the Upper Law Society of Canada and verified that the law firm is legit. I recevied a letter from Goodlife months ago but thought is was just junk mail so I threw it out. Well I made the mistake of not responding to Goodlife so I realized that I was being called for a legitamate obligation that I was contractually obligated to fulfill. I failed to follow the cancellation procedure correctly and that is why I owed the money. It was all in my contract that I signed and agreed that I had read and would be bound to the terms and conditions!
I called the office and had to leave a message for a return call and I was contacted within the same day from someone other then I left the message for and when I asked why that was I was told that there are quite a few people hadling these files so any one of them could assist me on the matter. I found them to be quite curtious and they explained why I was in breach of contract and I paid the bill. I have read some of the postings on here and I must say, it sounds like alot of you are just trying to get out of paying for the money you owe on a contract. It really is alarming to read all the postings on here when trying to verify who these guys are but if any of you actually took the time as I did, I don't think that you would be posting the "spam" that you have here. It seems that the people posting these messages just need to fulfill thier contractual obligations but instead of doing so you just complain that you don't like to be contacted about your debt. Really people, you are my fellow Canadians, have a little honor and respect for yourself and fulfill your obligations and stop trying to whine about how you don't want to pay your bill. Put you "BIG BOY" pants on and call them and resolve the matter. If you didn't sign a contract in the first place they would not be calling you! Is it really worth the hassels to try to get out of your debt of $200.00 or so and the chance that your credit may be effected? I am appauled at how our society acts when they are asked to look after thier contractually obligated debt.
Overall I found my expierance to be quite pleasent when resolving the matter with them and I tell you, I won't jump to conclussions the next time I read stuff on the internet as I have come to relize that alot of the people posting these messages on here are probrobbly just deadbeats that handle all thier financial problems poorly! Grow up and pay you bills, it really is quite simple, if you sign a contract then it is your obligation to fulfill that contract. If you fail to do that you will get called on it!
I have posted this because it seems that only the people that don't want to pay thier debt have taken the time to post here! I figure that instaed of other people like me reading all the gloom and doom on here I would set the record straight so you do not go through the emotional turmoil I did after reading these postings. I worried about nothing because of all these postings!! Good honest Canadians, this ones for you and for the rest of you, go get credit counciling as it sounds like you need it!
I wonder if Ted Rogers would back up the claim that his rep has made? Sounds like someone speaking without actually taking the time to ensure thier advice was accurate!
