- I checked them out and they are legit replies to ash| 3 repliesI recevied a call from them and so I decided to do some research and see why they were calling. I was able to confirm with the Goodlife Head office that The Casey Van Moorlehem Barristers & Solicitors office handle the delinquint debts that are owed on breached contracts & such. I further checked with the Upper Law Society of Canada and verified that the law firm is legit. I recevied a letter from Goodlife months ago but thought is was just junk mail so I threw it out. Well I made the mistake of not responding to Goodlife so I realized that I was being called for a legitamate obligation that I was contractually obligated to fulfill. I failed to follow the cancellation procedure correctly and that is why I owed the money. It was all in my contract that I signed and agreed that I had read and would be bound to the terms and conditions!
I called the office and had to leave a message for a return call and I was contacted within the same day from someone other then I left the message for and when I asked why that was I was told that there are quite a few people hadling these files so any one of them could assist me on the matter. I found them to be quite curtious and they explained why I was in breach of contract and I paid the bill. I have read some of the postings on here and I must say, it sounds like alot of you are just trying to get out of paying for the money you owe on a contract. It really is alarming to read all the postings on here when trying to verify who these guys are but if any of you actually took the time as I did, I don't think that you would be posting the "spam" that you have here. It seems that the people posting these messages just need to fulfill thier contractual obligations but instead of doing so you just complain that you don't like to be contacted about your debt. Really people, you are my fellow Canadians, have a little honor and respect for yourself and fulfill your obligations and stop trying to whine about how you don't want to pay your bill. Put you "BIG BOY" pants on and call them and resolve the matter. If you didn't sign a contract in the first place they would not be calling you! Is it really worth the hassels to try to get out of your debt of $200.00 or so and the chance that your credit may be effected? I am appauled at how our society acts when they are asked to look after thier contractually obligated debt.
Overall I found my expierance to be quite pleasent when resolving the matter with them and I tell you, I won't jump to conclussions the next time I read stuff on the internet as I have come to relize that alot of the people posting these messages on here are probrobbly just deadbeats that handle all thier financial problems poorly! Grow up and pay you bills, it really is quite simple, if you sign a contract then it is your obligation to fulfill that contract. If you fail to do that you will get called on it!
I have posted this because it seems that only the people that don't want to pay thier debt have taken the time to post here! I figure that instaed of other people like me reading all the gloom and doom on here I would set the record straight so you do not go through the emotional turmoil I did after reading these postings. I worried about nothing because of all these postings!! Good honest Canadians, this ones for you and for the rest of you, go get credit counciling as it sounds like you need it!
I just thought I would check out this site to see if people have figured out what this is for yet and again I am appauled at what I have read here. I hope this helps anyone that wants to know the reality of what is going on and to tell you to not panick and to simply contact thier office. - where is their obligation? replies to I checked them out and they are legitI opted out of renewing my contract with goodlife. I ticked off the "will not continue" box on the letter Goodlife sent and dropped it off at the gym 1 month before my membership ended. I was surprised to see that in the months that followed they continued to take money out of my account. I stopped payment at the bank and was told by the branch manager that frankly this seemed to be a regular occurance at Goodlife. Yesterday i received the same "lawyers" call. Now I'm just angry. Put the "big boy pants on?" . I have a perfect credit rating, followed the proper proceedure and because some joker decided not to put my notice in their inner office mail my credit could be effected? I think not. Goodlife must make a small fortune with this proceedure. I contacted Goodlifes headoffice and have not as yet had a reply. I'll look forward to their call.
- Jessica replies to I checked them out and they are legitI would just like to say that we have been contacted by this so called lawyer as well and we are not dead beats either. We went into the gym to cancel the membership and pay any amounts owing in order to do so. Not only did we pay at that time, they called us back 2 days later and refunded the amount because they said we overpaid. So, two things, so much for your theory and second why are we being contacted when there is no money owing?!
- visitor replies to anon...I got the call too. I called to find out it's a collection from goodlife. I had been negotiating a price to close my file with goodlife. I finally sent a check (but the money was in the wrong account - I can be such a knob) so, of course, it came back as nsf. I didn't realize this until the law place called me. I called goodlife just to confirm, and yeah, it's all legit (or was for me anyway).
- Ottawa replies to I checked it out and they are legit!Yes - me too - same firm and I owe Good Life too, so this looks like it must be the reason I'm getting the call. And I agree with you - I signed the contract, AND I knew what I was signing, and I knew Good Life has been trying to get in touch with me. My intention has always been to pay - budget permitting - so my sleep will be easy.
There ARE other phone frauds out there who use the same method, though: calling with an urgent message about "your credit card" (which makes me then wonder - hmmm, which one?), "press 9" to retrieve the message, and methods like that. The difference between this call and phone frauds, though, is that this one had my name so I didn't dismiss it so quickly. HOWEVER, where BELL lost thousands of customer records this week in my region, I was a little concerned that this was how a fraudster got my name.
So, if I were Good Life and their Retained Lawyer - I would change my method of telephone contact..... - Bonnie replies to Amit| 1 replyThis is a collection agency for Goodlife Fitness. Here is the best one
my daughter got a call from these people too. She has not been in since
July 2007 because of health issues and told them to cancel, but never advised her of a cancellation fee. So now we will be fighting with them to
get our money back after I gave them in Airdrie an earful about how they scam children to become members without having the parents come in anc explain the contract. She worked a short time at Superstore and tried it and never once was there a call from them & they gave the excuse that the address was wrong on the contract. Just crap!!!! Watch out!!!!!!!!!! - MikeI tryed a trial membership for 10 days and cancelled within time frame and goodlife "misplaced" the copies of the cancellation form. My bank is well aware of this company doing this in the past and they continue to do so. I have nothing but bad things to say about goodlife they are crooks!
Now at a gym for 23 a month btw...not by-weekly - TurleWow - I got a letter from these clowns..indicating that collections were to commence if I did not get back in 7 days....Good thing is I actually have an e-mail from Goodlife indicating that my membership is in good standing....I guess I'll call head office too. This sucks - in all the years I have been with Goodlife (around 15) - this is the first time this has happened.
I will certainly be calling head office!!- Caller: Van Moorhelm
- If this is 'goodlife' who needs it!Same thing is happening to our daughter, her bill is paid yet the phone calls from Casey Van Moorlehem keep coming. She has settled with Goodlife, has the receipt to prove it and still the phone calls keep coming. Now a letter has arrived stating she has 5 days to pay or they are forced to take "further enforcement action". Sad that these people have to try and earn a paycheck by harassing others. Get a real job! I will be calling Goodlife - shame on them using a scummy company like this - get your accounts in order Goodlife this company you've hired is making you look like crap!!!

- just out of highschoolthey are also bugging me they already said they'd take me to court which they can go ahead with because I didn't legally sign the contracts myself to begin with and my name isn't even under the payee. They can take me to court and lose either way. I ain't paying it.

- Shawna replies to AndieThis has happened to many of my friends.
I just suggest no one uses that facility, because thats how they are collecting their extra money.
jerks - Annoyed!| 2 repliesI have recieved a phone call as well from Casey Van Moorlehem and they do deal with Goodlife fitness. I am completely NOT impressed with goodlife.. I had pre-authorized payments through my bank account and when it came time to take out the bi-weekly payment and they weren't able to (this happend a few times that I didn't have quite enough in my account) they put it as an outstanding balance owing on my account. When my contract with Goodlife was finished I suddenly got hounded with calls from the law firm.. after 3 weeks I FINALLY got a hold of someone.
Yeah, I am now impressed at all with Goodlife and it's management. To completely leave me out of the loop. To not call me when they were unable to recieve a payment. I would've been more than happy to take it to them personally. Does anyone know who I should contact at Goodlife?! I am just paying what I "owe" because next year I plan on buying a house for my young son and I and I don't want to have this get up into collections (or risk it) and have it back fire on me...- Caller: Casey Moorlehem Law Firm
- Call type: Debt collector
- Management replies to I checked them out and they are legitMy problem with this whole thing is that instead of calling a Law Firm, they could've simply picked up a phone and called me. I am young, newly out of college and have a young son. During my contract I had with goodlife, I might have been a little short in the money situation. But for them to have completely ignored me, and bypass calling me completely is just simply annoying. I buckled down and I payed them because looking at Bank statements, it did show that they were right and the amount owning to them was correct.
My whole point is that why go to a law firm... call the person who has outstanding balances and deal with the matter (or try to) BEFORE going to a law firm...
The people I talked to at the Law firm were very nice people and answered any questions I did have and it's not a matter of scams, or whatever. It's the fact that they went over my head and straight to a law firm instead of calling me to deal with this... But it's over now.. done and done... - Lammy replies to Annoyed!| 1 replyYa I got a call from those [***] today. i missed the call though. they leave an intentionally vague message regarding an 'important business matter' they leave a reference number for you to call back. when you call their phone system is totally out of order. they prompt you to leave a message and when you try it just disconnects you. Funny enough I work for a bank (I'm not going to say which one, but we're one of the big 4) and I work in the call center taking everyday customer calls and I can assure you that not only goodlife, but Gyms in general are the absolute worst for collections related disputes. either they take more than originally aggreed upon, they keep collecting after you've cancelled, or they don't honour sign up agreements (like don't pay for your first 3 months etc.) I advise anybody dealing with any gym to prepay if they'll let you cuz these guys are shady as hell.
- Goodlife Fitness replies to LammyYou say they are shady, actually they are somekind of oozing growth coming out of a black hole in the sewer. Check your BBB to find out where gyms and spas stand on the number of complaints received. Have been thinking a gym in my home would be less expensive and hassle free.
- JoeGot the standard "important business matter" message left on my phone. Not sure how they got it actually, since the number is different than when I signed up with GoodLife, and is also unlisted, but I called back and left a message on the extension I was given. I spoke to a lawyer in their office who politely explained the situation to me. When I looked back over my bank records, it turned out that I did owe the money, so I sent a money order via Xpresspost and that was that. Easy. If you owe the money, then just pay it. I agree that GoodLife could be handling this better by contacting people directly before going to a collection agency, but if you owe the money, you owe the money -- so do the right thing and pay up.

- jesdangab replies to I checked it out and they are legit! How dare you presume to be such an upstanding and proud canadian. Do you realize that good life has bought out another company and along the way some files may have been misplaced!!!
If only we could ALL be as perfect a "citizen" as yourself and have such and outstanding credit rating!!! Given these times...where do you stand now?
This is probably the most pompous and self righteous comment I have read on ANY website response!!! I am sorry we can't all live up to your expectations of the world!!! If we could there would be no such thing as politicians.
By the way.....I have never had a call in regard to a late or unpaid bill... - Data Recovery Scam - Fraud AlertNumber belongs to Compu Recovery / compurecovery.com - Data Recovery Scam - Fraud Alert

- S. replies to annaI went ahead and returned the call, mostly because I could barely understand what the man had been saying in the message.
Apparently this is a legal collection firm hired by GoodLife Fitness to collect on overdue accounts.
They wanted me to arrange a payment with them and I told the woman point-blank that I could hear telemarketers at work in the noisy background and that I did not believe she was calling from a legitimate Barrister/Soliciter's office. She told me I could contact that Law Society of Upper Canada to verify the legitimacy of their operation and I have done so. She also said that, if I preferred, I could go in and pay my overdue account at the gym directly.
Here is what I received back from the Law Society of Upper Canada:
I am in receipt of your inquiry regarding the verification of a lawyer that you believe is named Casey Von Morlehan.
I can confirm that we do have a William Casey Von Moorlehem listed as a lawyer licensee with the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is currently listed as a Sole Practitioner and is in good standing.
