- DanaI got a call today for the first time from FFG and Associates. They did not say the name of who they are trying to contact (and I don't have my name on my voicemail box) and just say that it is an important matter and that I call them back at 866-443-6985. I researched in my state and there is NO collection company licensed to collect in Florida with that name or number. If they aren't licensed to collect here by the state I don't believe they can legally do anything to me. I do not intend to call it back as they can not legitamitly(yes spelling error) collect from me if they don't have a license in the state to do so. I hope they don't continue to call. Did anyone else check to see if they were licensed to collect in their state?

- Mom| 1 replyI just received a call from Delphine at Frontier Financial asking for my daughter about a debt for a payday loan supposedly taken out in November 2008. Delphine stated the matter was being handed over for legal action on Friday, May 7th if my daughter didn't contact them immediately. Has anyone else received a call from Delphine???

- Reply to Mom replies to MomMom, read all the post above...this is a scam. Don't give them any information and if you really want proof ask them for some....they don't have any they can provide. They probably have her SS# and what not but that's because they are crooks and got that illegally. Please read all the posts except for the ones that say they were sued or served papers because those are FFG employees pretending to be REAL people. Seriously.

- Kevin replies to Michael| 2 repliesNever let collection agents scare you into paying out money or given them personal information over the phone. No matter what they say to you, don't agree to anything. And even if you know that you owe another company money, never verify that over the phone with a collection call.
Many times, people calling to collect on debts are scam collection companies. They may have got hold of some of your personal information, and debt information, by illegal means. They then pretend to be acting on behalf of the company you owe the debt to.
If they are a legit and registered collection agent, then by law they have to send you proof of the debt IN WRITING, and you have 30 days to respond to confirm that the debt is yours, and that it's accurate in is balance and details. Any debt agent/company that refuse to do this, isn't acting legally and isn't to be trusted.
Also, on things like debts to payday loan companies, many of those companies are operating illegally to begin with, and so in many cases when a borrower defaults on the original agreement, these companies don't sue you, because their own hands are dirty and they can't go to court to sue you without being busted themselves.
And even if a said payday loan company was following the laws of their state, it would be rare for them to attempt to sue someone, because the amount of the loans are so low its not worth the time and expense it to sue. And generally, by the time it might come to that anyway, the borrower has already paid back the company an amount equal to original principle amount loaned to them. It is just the excessive interest payments that the payday lender is losing out on - which really isn't a lose for them anyway because they are bleeding these crazy interest payments out of many other people who can't afford to pay them back.
The best thing to do with collection calls is just to ignore them, They usually stop after awhile, and so if you are unable to get the agents address to send a "Cease & Desist" letter, then just don't even answer the phone when you see their number come up, or an unknown number come up.
Consumers also need to be aware that there are laws in place, even for legit collection agents, that layout strict guideline as to when they can call you. I forget the exact times, but you can do a goggle search and find them for your state. But I think is something like 8am - 8pm. If they call outside the listed times they are breaking the law and you should report them.
As well, collection agent are by law, barred from using threats, intimidation tactics, or even lies. If they tell you something like they have called they police and they are coming to arrest you tomorrow if you don't pay the debt tonight, then that's illegal.
If you receive an official letter from collection company that lists the debt, and who the original creditor was...etc, then they are more likely a legit company, but you should still check with the BBB and Consumer Affairs and and the Atternery General's office of your state, as to whether the company is operating legally...there addresses, business numbers, etc... If this company is not in your state, then you can still just call the same agency mentioned in the home state of that company.
My understanding is that there is a statute of limitations on consumer debts likes this, so if you sit tight for 6 years, and never during that time verify that you owe any money on that debt, then the debt is considered void after 6 years. No collection agent or even the original creditor, can attempt to collect the debt again once the 6 year limit is reach. Again, the key is not to verify the debt in any way shape or form. If you do, then the 6 year clock starts all over again from day which you verify the debt or made any payments on it.
Collect agent count on fear tactics and the consumer's ignorance of the laws that protect them in these situations. They try and scare you into making payment agreements, verifying the debt, giving them personal information the may not already have on you...etc. In reality, if you know the rights available to you, you can either avoid these dents all together, or settle them for a fraction of the balance owed. Creditors and collection companies have already written much of the debt anyway, and are just happy to get back a fraction of it, because something is always better than nothing. Consumers have more power than they realize, so don't let collection scare tactics get the best of you - be they from legit collection agents, or fake ones.
I have been through many battles with creditors and collection agents over the years. I don't make excuses for whatever financial problems I got my self into, but no matter how you got into the hole, no creditor or collection agent has the right to make your life miserable. For legit debts, you should try to pay them back, or at least part of it, if you are at all able to, but not at the cost of your mental and physical health. - Stop da crooks replies to collectors-r-criminalsThese collection agents think that they can tell you anything and you will beleive it, the cost of court filings is so exspensive that they would lose money filing suits for these small loans.
In addition, they do not want to appear in court, where their unlawful deeds will be exposed and they face punitive damages for their unlawful practices.
Remember the Fair Credit Debt Collection Practice Act gives you rights and protection from these vulchers and bottom feeders.
Check the laws in your state for additional protections and always report these bottom feeders to your stateAtttorney General.
Finally, getting a vumber will allow you to stop these calls and provide a record of their activity, when you take legal action against them. - Stop da crooks replies to ShariTell them you will not discuss the matter on the phone and to send all communication to you via USPS.
In addition, tell them to send you proof of their claim and if by chance they do send you this proof. Reply immediately via certified mail from the USPS.
Keep all correspondence in the event they attempt to attack your Experian, Trans Union or Equifax credit files.
Get a good night sleep and take control of the situation.
Do not let these crooks bully you. - jay replies to sairaI got the same call, Joseph. He left a message, but did not call back. He did not give a company name on his voice mail. A scam for sure after reading all the messages.
- Rich CzarGot the same type of call on 5-7-2010. I cut the guy off by asking right up front who they were and why they were calling. He asked me if my name was Louis... I said no. He apologized and hung up pretty quickly. I don't write checks. I don't have ANY debt. I knew this stunk right from the start. The local number they used initially was local. 314-549-8991

- s1455342| 2 repliesI received a voicemail today on my cell phone from a local number saying that peter with FFG needed to verify a check that I had written. He left a toll free number to call back. I called back and spoke with someone else who knew my name, address, last four digits of my social, cell number, and email address. She explained that I had taken out a payday loan in 2008 and did not pay it off. The loan company no longer exists and apparently I owe $615 to FFG. I went back into my bank records and I show that I did take a out a payday loan and paid it off. I requested that they send me, by mail, validation of the debt. They suggested they email it to me, to save time since they will be filing papers in my County... I asked for both email and post mail. I then called back a few hours later to see if they had received my fax request for the validation. The person I talked to then said she could not check on this but then proceeded to tell me that I was ridiculous for not paying off the debt in the first place and then hung up on me when I requested the original contract. Has anyone else taken care of this crap?

- Hello replies to s1455342Are you not reading the post of other people. These people are scum of the eartha and are just trying to scam you for money.
- ReporterIf you go to the better business website and type in Money and More in Hemet Ca. you will see that they are aware that someone is using their name to collect money that is not owed. Money and More is closed which is why they can use their name and think they can get away with it because who are you going to call and verify that this was paid off. These people hacked into the system (or money and more sold our information) and got SS#'s, phone numbers, etc.
Scum...get real jobs and go away.- Caller: FFG and Associate
