I also have been harrassed by these people for years.  Now they've stepped it up and call everyday, sometimes more.  Yes, like you, they use several different numbers.  I do not owe anything!!!!  I am not going to
pay out money to scam artists.  That's pretty low; just read these
people's situations.  I myself have problems.  I don't answer the phone.
The last time I answered it all I got was a man screaming at me.  It
was impossible to speak to him so I just hung up.

These slime balls have called me before trying to collect an old debt threatening law suits.  Today they called from a different number:  caller id said Hollander Law 202-540-5119 and on my voice mail was a recorded message from Mitt Romney on behalf of the Republican Party.  So, which is it?, Hollander Law is just a stupid call center trying to collect bad debts or the Republican Party likes to use sleazy call centers?  Whatever!!!

Recently my fiance received a letter from Gerald E. Moore & Associates, PC. In the letter it is stating she owes debt on two separate accounts. When we called to see if we could set up payment arrangements they were unwilling to allow that. The debt is from an apartment complex she lived in 2 years ago and everything was supposed to be taking care before leaving the complex. Although, the amount they claim she owes is over $2000.00. Which we are unable to pay all in one payment. They were very rude and mean. They were also very unprofessional, belittling, and also threatening to turn it over to an attorney.  After reading all of this I am at a loss of what actions we should take. As we are worried if we pay anything to them that it will no be documented. Or that this debt is even valid. What should we do??

    Demand a debt validation.
Call them and tell them you are sending a debt validation letter.  This will stop all collection activity while they scramble trying to prove that they are legally entitled to collect on this debt and that you owe the debt.  Did they buy the debt from someone thus making them a 3rd party collector.  This  means that they are bound by the rules of the FDCPA and if they don't follow the rules, you can sue the crap out of them.  There are plenty of resources.. one of which is phonehelp.hints.me

I wouldn't even bother announcing my pending dispute mail. Verbal threats are unlikely to alter the offending company's plans. I let my letters decorated in green USPS labels do the talking.

Not only debt buyers are considered third parties. If the agency did not issue you the credit, it's not a first party, and is therefore covered by FDCPA.

} I don't know guys I think they are very much liget. [sic] I would comply w/ them...

"Liget" is not an English word. Curiously, it is the name of a village in Baranya County, Hungary.

A mailing address and a state office listing and a registered agent do not magically make a company *legitimate*. Those data merely make it simpler to find and punish violators of consumer law.

} Wouldn't it suck to end up getting sued for something that could have been eaisly [sic] taken care of?

Sure would. That's what my FDCPA defendants say when they ignore my quiet settlement offers and then I sue them a few weeks later.

Look at the older illiterate shill remarks on the first two thread pages and the pasted Bud Hibbs profile. Those should give you an idea of why your fiancee's first instinct should not be to offer money but resistance. The "unprofessional, belittling" conduct is likely also illegal, as would be an empty threat to sue. The thugs are "unwilling to allow" a payment plan only because it hurts their commissions. This is not about satisfying a debt, this is extortion on a weak premise -- weaker still as serious doubts linger as to the nature and amount of the so-called debt.

Assuming that letter was the first from this shop, it should have certain disclosures about how to dispute the debt within thirty days, which is precisely what should be done. A dunning letter lacking those disclosures, or else saying something which "overshadows" one's right to seek validation, is not in legal compliance. A consumer dispute must be on paper and should be sent USPS Certified with return card. The same letter can also limit contact to days, hours, and/or methods of one's choosing. One common demand is to simply state that "phone calls are inconvenient".

While locked under a proper validation demand, Moore/Hollander can't make a peep until the demand is met. The additional restrictions kick in if the collection agency does validate. Monitor everything this bunch says and does and keep good records. Your gal will need them later if she files a real lawsuit, as opposed to the collector's false legal threats, for various violations of her rights.
