They are a pain, better known as white collar criminals. We make monthly payments on time and they are still very annoying. Report them to a debt management lawyer or have a lawyer friend give them a call.THE ANNOYING SITUATION WILL BE STOP.

It is Barclays bank. I receive 10-12 calls a day,. Sundays also. They NEVER leave a message. Constant harassment.
I have spoken with them on 6 different occasions, to a "supervisor" (different one each time) that says they will correct my statement. They never have. Only keep adding fees plus interest.. A manageable amount is now becoming unmanagable.
This is a foreign owned bank. They received bail out money from US taxpayers.
As of now they will never see a dime from me. They can take me to court,. I could care less, let them put me in jail, but they will never receive a fricking penny. They are nothing but liars and crooks.
    And we BAILED THEM OUT?

They have on 6 occasions said they would correct my statement. I told them I will make payments when the statement is corrected. They have not yet made a correction in 3 months. Only added more fees and interest every month. They phone me 10-12 times a day. Even Sundays. Constant harassment.
    File complaints with the FTC.

I made a recording of the recording you get when a number is out of service.  Whenever I get this 866 number, or anthing similar, I pick up the phone and play this recording in their ear.  It hasn't stopped them yet, but let's hope.

I think phone software can tell the difference between a real out-of-service number and what you're doing because they can detect your receiver being picked up which wouldn't happen for a real one. Am not confident what you're trying will work.

Yep, these guys have been calling me non stop for a little over three months now from two listed numbers and one unlisted. It's an auto dialing software they use to mass connect calls. You don't actually get connected to someone till you verbally respond after picking up. I ended up getting so frustrated that it actually became humorous to me. I just started messing with them as much as they were messing with me. Speaking gibberish, in accents and even in my second language, which is a dialect of German with lots of Dutch in it. It makes no sense to people unless they come from a few very specific places in Canada, Mexico, Belize and Paraguay. So far, everyone that I have spoken with from these collectors did not sound like they came from anywhere near those countries.  : P

Then, one gloriously beautiful morning about a month into my decision to counter their Greyface bureaucracy with utter chaos and nonsense, I was sitting in bed having "breakfast" and listening to good tunes from Mr. R. Marley on my mac when a call came in. Guess who it was?!?? Indeed, it was the Greyfaces* themselves all up in my business at 8:01am. Well, I decided to follow the good book's advice:
"But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.." **

So what did I do? I forgave what would have normally been a 8am wake up call (three hours before I have to be up for classes) and decided to share the sweet tunes with the lovely folks on the other end of the line. Who knows, perhaps they had never heard Mr. Marley before. I didn't know who he was until I was almost in my twenties. Well, if this was the case, I had to remedy the situation. No one should have to sit on a phone all day and deal with frustrated people who are in the middle of an economic downturn and not have Mr Marley's . People the bank should clearly not have loaned money to in the first place perhaps. I include myself in this as well. Not to mention the fact that its a machine that calls you day and night for months getting you good and riled up and then dumps you on some poor schmo who's about ready to slit his wrists out of desperation to get out of whatever bleak hell hole his cubicle is. Anyhow, I thought perhaps I could share the love via the joy of Reggae.

This is how it went, off and on for about 3 days:
I would answer the phone, place it on one of the speakers and start one of my favourite**** songs ever, "Small Axe" by one Robert Nesta Marley. Very appropriate I thought. Then, once the song ended, I would pick up the phone and they would have hung up on me. I can only hope that someone, somewhere still has, "And if you are a big tree, we are a small axe. Ready to cut you down, ready to cut you down." still resonating in their skulls.

At the end of the third day and about ninety plays I decided it would be enough. I had gotten three days of solid entertainment, got to listen to "Small Axe" a whole lot and succeeded, Huzzah!, in getting two of the numbers to stop calling. The unlisted and the 4070 quit, the 0677 is still calling, though very infrequently now. I'm pretty sure you could write a Mathematical equation expressing all of this in a very elegant and awesome way, however, I am way too tired, wired and awful at math.

I suppose, that in all of this my point is that if this number is calling you and you are unable or unwilling to deal with them on their terms, which are the only ones they understand, resort to attrition. Let them come vis a vis with your favourite music and you too can join me in exposing a whole new crowd to the joys of good tunes. All it takes is a source of music, a willingness to hit the talk button, the tenacity and resolve to put the phone by a speaker and walk away for about three minutes. Easy Peasy. Wash rinse and repeat as necessary.

ps This technique was very effective in Panama Canal in 1989 against one Manuel Noriega, though they used really big speakers and essentially broke a man down by playing 80's rock and roll at full tilt for 3/4 days straight. This is not my intention. Instead, share the love a little and make their day a bit better.

pps I was very tired when I wrote this and even more so towards the end. I'm sure I lost a lot of steam and probably didn't make much sense, but I think you get the general idea. Have fun messin with those that seek to bring you down. Always remember:

It is indeed better to love than to hate, better to bend than to break, always better to give than to take and everything goes better with breakfast and a : )  - Dr. Zaius

(*Check out http://www.principiadiscordia.com/book/49.php for an explanation of Greyface and his curse, then read the rest of the Principia Discordia and prepare for Enlightenment, Confusion, Elation and many other things usually associated with awkward first times. But no worries, Eris is a... well, you'll... hmm. Easiest thing to do is head to your nearest bowling alley on a Friday night and look for those of us eating hot dogs with no hot dog buns. Hail Hail Eris, Hail Hail Discordia, Hail Hail the sacred Chao and bless us one and all, or not, whatever. Its all gravy until someone brings out the slip and slide, then we see the benefits of homemade brown over white of any kind, truly.)

(**Matthew 5:39 NIV, in particular Yahshua is dealing with the "Law of Retaliation" and this verse is often misquoted as: "Do not resist evil, but over come evil with good..." Which is not actually in there anywhere and often misused to promote complete pacifism and passivity. With the minimal research I did on the Interwebs, I found most scholars and theologians agree that Yahshua was talking about what was known as a deep, personal insult to one's self. To literally "turn the other cheek" after being slapped was a refusal to retaliate or avenge oneself and to extend a forgiveness of the Law: "Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot." Exodus 21:23 NIV, which appears to have been an attempt to limit the amount of punishment that could be given for a crime ie. let the punishment fit the crime. I digress, this footnote is becoming almost as long as my original message and Kudos to you if you have read this far. Further reading and the source of this commentary can be found at: http://www.preceptaustin.org/matthew_538-39.htm or by typing "Matthew 5:39 Commentary" into google and hitting enter.)

(***Unfortunately I couldn't share breakfast with them, over the phone that is. I have gotten the impression that they could use it a little more than most folks.)

(****Yep, that's a u in favourite. Queen's English, I'm Canadian, deal with it.)

They started texting me now.  Just got one which says "Hi wanna met up later?"  Weird.  They call nonstop day and night. My voicemail (25 saved messages) gets filled up every 3 days.  Other than changing my number, or paying in full,  I have no idea how to stop this harassment. Have a feeling they will still be calling me in hell when I reach the afterlife

    wtf
SOOO, it's Barclay bank (aka Juniper).  They call non-stop once or twice an hour from 8am until 9pm, and never leave a damn message.  And then they started calling my PARENTS landline...where I have not lived in TEN YEARS.  Not only do they harrass me, but also my parents.
I was about 2 payments behind, and eventually I called Barclays and started a payment plan, made a payment, and am on my way back on track giving them my money again.
AND THEN, and 8:15am, the day after Thankgiving, I see this delightful number appear on my phone again.  Soon after, I see the number appear on my parents phone (where I happen to be staying).
AND I AM FURIOUS.  If they start this again I will have to take action.  Not only have I made a payment according to their terms, it is also TWO WEEKS until the due date!
WTF.  They are nothing but bullies!

The real kicker is - I applied for this card to purchase a mac.  Which was then stolen 2 months later.  And had to buy another one.
3 years later, I'm still paying it off.  Plus more.
    Some people just can't win.

I set up a new fax line for my home office, and within one hour of doing so, this company, Juniper/Barclay, began calling my fax several times.  I have NEVER opened an account with them, let alone even heard of them.  They now call my fax line every day, about 5 times a day.  I programmed the number as a "junk fax", so the calls are immediately cut off after the first ring.  I will be reporting them to the BBB and the FTC, even if they may be a "foreign company" as stated in another person's comment.

Fair Debt Collection's web site is http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/  NOTE:  this web site is a great resource on the laws for collections.  Writing a "cease and desist letter to the company is one way to stop the calls.

What practices are off limits for debt collectors?

Can a debt collector contact me any time or any place?

No. A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they’re told (orally or in writing) that you’re not allowed to get calls there.
How can I stop a debt collector from contacting me?

If a collector contacts you about a debt, you may want to talk to them at least once to see if you can resolve the matter – even if you don’t think you owe the debt, can’t repay it immediately, or think that the collector is contacting you by mistake. If you decide after contacting the debt collector that you don’t want the collector to contact you again, tell the collector – in writing – to stop contacting you. Here’s how to do that:

Make a copy of your letter. Send the original by certified mail, and pay for a “return receipt” so you’ll be able to document what the collector received. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again, with two exceptions: a collector can contact you to tell you there will be no further contact or to let you know that they or the creditor intend to take a specific action, like filing a lawsuit. Sending such a letter to a debt collector you owe money to does not get rid of the debt, but it should stop the contact. The creditor or the debt collector still can sue you to collect the debt.

Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:

       * use threats of violence or harm;
       * publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
       * use obscene or profane language; or
       * repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.

I agree with most of the postings here.  Barclay keeps calling for their money even after I have told them repetedly that I have been unemployed for over a year!  The next words out of their mouth is when do you plan on going back to work!  They never heard a word I said!  They do not listen to you when they are demanding their money.  They do not understand that paying for a roof over your head, car and utilities and food is far more important than their stupid credit card payment!  Thankfuly I have caller ID and am developing a deaf ear towards their calls when the ringer sounds!

These [***] call endlessly from the 26 of the month until the 4th of the new month. (This is when they get their payment from MMI) They even called me on New Years Day! I told them numerous times that they had agreed to a debt repayment plan, but they refuse to stop calling me! I just sent of a certified letter telling them that that I no longer wish to be contacted by phone. Let's see if it does any good...
