My ma got a call said my boyfriend was locked up and to set up an account at that 866...number to pay for a collect call.  He was NOT, but she thinks he's scamming her and he  has absolutely no idea what she's talking about.  BUT I'm wondering can an outside party use her number and scam, since at least 2 of his 'friends' know her number, or is this just a random scam coincidence? I called the number, and the automated recording is quite suspicious.....

The caller was a message telling me it was from Golbal Tell Link with a collect call from Holmes County Regional Jail.If I wanted to set up an account to select #2 or I could set up an account at a later time by calling 1-800 483-8314 .The thing is that I don't even know when this county is,its not in my State, nor I don't know of anyone in this County Jail.So I am convinced its a SCAM.

When i tried to join a business conference call from AT&T I received this text from 23333. Thinking that the specs of the conference changed, I replied with Y. Then I received another text that I subscribed to their SMS Look up service for $9.99/month. I replied with STOP and I received a third text that I am unsubscribed and no further charges will apply. After I googled them, I called them and I spoke with a lady. I told her what happened and she told me that I was not subscribed any longer, but they already charged my cell bill once for $9.99. I told her to reverse the charges and she told me she couldn't. She said she can refund me the money with a check. So, stupid me, I gave her my name and address to send me the check. She even gave me a confirmation number and she told me I will have it in the mail in less than 10 days. Well lets see what will happen. It sounds as a scam. If I don't receive a check or if I have more charges I will contact my carrier, AT&T, to block the charges, and I will report them to the states attorney.

what could be happening guys is cause you have a metro PCS cellphone and METRO recycles all #s , someone that is calling you could still have the # YOU have now because of who ever had it before you.. maybe that's the reason behind the weird calls. Because I have metro also.

I just got that EXACT SAME MESSAGE today on my cell phone too.   I called the carrier, ATT, to see if any activity appeared on my account, and they said no. When I got that text message, I responded.   I typed "Y", and received another text message that said, "Your subscription on 23333 DA has been cancelled.  No further charges apply."    Did anything BAD happen because of this text message you received, since that was March 2010,  ?  I hope not.

I got a call at my place of employment from 1-800-363-1410.  I was sent a text saying to reply y for info on the number that called me and was given the website--www.smsvw.com--to go to.  My home computer won't even let me go to this site---Internet Exlporer denied access.  What does this tell me---it tells me that this is a scam.  Just a question---how in the hel* did they get my work number?!  Please let me know how to put a stop to this.

It might be modern technology in your eyes but when you get calls from an inmate facility in a state you have never been to it sounds more like a scam so I am not tripping I am concerned. Just saying.

I keep getting a call from an "unavailable" number that says I am getting a call from an inmate at the same jail my boyfriend is at. Something wasn't quite right about it though. I am assuming it is a scam and now I see that many other people are having the same problem....

By now I hope everyone has figured out that GTL is a legit company.
    Yes inmates call people.
You may or may not know anyone in prison.
It might be someone mis-dialing the number.
Check around though, is there a family member or friend heading down
the wrong path, when you think about it, that you haven't seen
    or heard from lately?
Don't be offended by a call you do not recognize.
You can simply type the number in Google and do some free research.

Unfortunately there is no "do not call" list for receiving calls from prisons
but you can counter act the rate of frequency by asking your phone service
provider to block collect calls. (Not all companies provide this option though).

    No need to be rude.
Some inmates are actually wrongly accused, some are not.
You are not perfect and in fact no one is.

Oh and I don't work for the company.. they are not "scammers"..
There is also another way to get affordable calls called
conscallhome.com offering people local rates instead of collect ones.

Anyhow.. hope you have figured it all out by now.

I have some inmate who keeps calling my cell phone number repeatedly, it goes on and on. First I don't have any friends or family in prison, Two I cannot block the call off per AT&T.  It is a 18668471251  last call at 6:43 p.m. eastern standard time to my cell phone.  Does the guy not catch on it is the wrong number or not get the point when I say no to the charges or keep turning my phone off, it keeps going on and on.
